Chapter Ninety Two
Chapter Ninety Two
Luna's Pov
I squeezed my fists hard.
“Is everything okay?” Lenny asked, her unseeing eyes focused on empty space, as her brows furrowed.
Then I bit down on my lip aggressively.
“Ah! I let out, as the metallic taste of blood touched my tongue. For just a moment, everything seemed to stop.
Taking in deep shaky breaths, I began to scratch hard at my skin, planting marks on my arm.
Pain…
Pain seemed to draw everything to it. If my mind was working on something else, processing pain, it wouldn't be able to focus on its brainwashing sessions.
“Why are you quiet? Talk to me.” Lenny said, her hands reaching out to search for me. Her little fingers touched the wounds I was carving into my skin, and we both gasped.
“Careful.” I lashed out, even though I was the one inflicting the pain on myself.
“What are you doing? What's that? It feels like a fresh wound.” She placed her fingers on her nose, smelling the blood on it, “Did you get hurt?” She turned to me instantly, her eyes lost in space.
“No, it's nothing. To bring myself back to focus, I have to inflict myself with pain. You never mind. Just eat.”
I took another spoonful of rice, and pushed it into her mouth, “There you go. So adorable!” I squealed, enjoying the look of her trying to chew with her mouth so full.

“You mean you almost lost your memories?” Emily asked, mouth agape as she left the book she was poring over hanging.
“Yes. I almost became Keira. So many of her memories came in, it was like a wave. What about her? Do you think she'd be able to resist this? What if she becomes me, and feels no need to return? What happens then?”
Nikkie bit into his watermelon noisily and water crashed down his lips.
Both Emily and I were lost in sight for a while, before the door suddenly swung open, and Elaine walked in.
Emily snatched a pillow and hurled it at Nikkie.
“We're being serious here! But what are you doing? You're eating fruit??” She snapped, and they began to bicker back and forth.
“Did you find anything?” I asked Elaine, as she plopped down on the bed exhausted.
“I literally went from house to house after getting a list of all the old people on the land, but I couldn't find anyone suspicious. They're all clean. I think I might lose all my memories completely if this goes on like this. The only thing I remember from that world is a name, and that's my daughter's.” Elaine lamented, looking completely haunted and tormented.
“Let's relax. Everything would fall in place. Remember the unicorn told Luna that if she could face her selfishness, then she would find the author? It means someone is watching her to truly see if she's facing her selfishness. How's it? Do you find kids adorable now?”
I placed my hands on my face, groaning.
“Just one kid.” I cried out, “The others are so loud, senseless, gluttonous, and weird, but she's calm, composed and doesn't like playing. She's the only one I like, and I actually wish I could take her along with me. What if my kid turns out to be loud and way too playful?” My hands slid from my face.
“So this little girl is the start. Very soon, you'll get to love other kids.”
I smiled to myself, “Lenny's blind, and can't see, but her eyes are so beautiful. She feels shy about smiling, but her smile would be so intoxicating. She looks so adorable in anything she does. She's soft, small and light, with beautiful facial expressions. Do you really think whoever's watching me would let me find the author? They're probably rolling their eyes, and waiting for me to mingle with the other kids.”
“Are you sure it's not a pity that made you feel for this girl?” Emily asked.
“I don't know if it's a pity, but I do know that I'd love to take her home if I can. I'd love to cuddle her, hear her giggle, bathe her, and give her all the things she loves, and if your world can fix her eyes too, then I'd want her eyes to be fixed. She deserves it. And I think I want Lenny to see only the good sides of me. I don't want her to see me making people mad, or making people scared, or dealing with blood and all that. I'd like to try new things with her. Instead of training, we can go shopping. I could teach her dancing. We could try reading books. Since she can't see, I'd have to read them for her, and…” I paused. They were all giving me strange looks.
“What?” I asked, irritated.
“I think… this was all planned.” Nikkie said, amazed.
“I think you were meant to meet this girl. Maybe that's why the unicorn said this.” Elaine added.
“I knew that this girl would be the one to make you consider others. You? Dancing? Reading? Because of her, you're willing to push away the things you like, and gradually, you'll learn to be better. Perhaps this MoonCub knows much more, and is a kind of omniscient figure.” Emily rattled out, getting excited as she began to connect pieces.
Who was this MoonCub? And how did they predict that at least one child would draw me to them, and make me feel like this?
A knock broke the stream of conversation, and we all turned to the door.
“Come in.” Elaine said, and the door was pushed open.
A maid came in, bowing to us, “I was asked to give this to you, ma'am.” She said, locating me, taking out a note from her dress.
“What's this?”
“It was given to me by someone I don't know. But the recipient was to be you.” The maid replied, and I took it from her, checking it out.
She turned around and left, while I opened the letter, and on it was:
So you're searching for me. Well, I've seen your efforts. Meet me in room 420, on the tallest floor. I'll tell you what to do.
