Be His Luna
Be His Luna
Sylvia's POV
Three of the men from the rogues….no, pack that had taken me in had gone out in search of woods to cook with.
They came back with woods, and not too long after they arrived, a scent hit my nose. And Zila was still so stupid to call him mate.
He betrayed us.
I realized immediately that Valen was here, but couldn't figure out if he was alone or not.
Either way, the pack members weren't safe.
I told them immediately the danger that laid ahead, but they seemed to have trust in me far more than I had in myself.
Acting unbothered by the sounds of the cover of the underground being discovered, they kept on with all they were doing.
I also sat calmly, awaiting Valen's arrival, but when multiple steps echoed through the steps leading inside, I realized that he wasn't alone.
The Alpha came with guards.
They descended, immediately pointing swords at the rogues.
The rogues who hadn't acted concerned faltered, fear gripping them.
They were getting into danger because of me. From what I've heard over the past few days I had been here, they had been safe in that hideout all the while, quietly living their lives without getting concerned with other people's lives.
They saved me, and now I've brought nothing to them but doom.
My jaws tightened as I watched Valen climb down the stairs leading inside, his gaze fixed on me.
I stood up. “Leave them alone!” I gritted, wanting him to order his men to take their swords off the people's neck.
He wants me, not them.
Valen stared at me for a few more seconds before his head snapped to the people, seizing all of them with his gaze.
“Looks like you've got a family here” he smirked, walking gently as he paced around.
My gaze darkened, not leaving him for a second.
“Withdraw your swords, we are here for her, not them” he said.
Glad he knows that.
The guards lowered their swords, and the people breathed out in relief.
Valen moved closer, and even though I didn't feel intimidated under his gaze, I moved backward till my back hit the wall.
“I missed you,” he whispered.
I scoffed. “You don't have the right to say that to me, Valen”
“Come back with me, Sylvia” I could see desperation in his eyes, but refused to believe that was real.
“Why ask when you are going to take me back forcefully?” I chuckled bitterly.
“I'm not here to force you, Sylvia,” he said in a more quiet tone.
He was being careful for a reason, and my gaze landed on the guards standing behind him.
The captain who had arrested me the other day was standing. It made me realize that he was here, not for Valen, but for Vivienne.
“It's true, I wanted you because of the curse. I also kept you close because of that” he admitted.
And even though it was something I already knew, it still pierced through my heart like a million blades.
I said nothing, but kept my gaze on him, giving him a stern look.
“Vivienne is plotting against you, the council is plotting against me” he paused. “They want the both of us to fall,” he added.
“I need you to come back. We can only conquer them if we stick together, Sylvia” he said.
Heartless! Selfish!
How on earth would he expect me to accept that?
“What to do? I already like this place, like you said, I've got a family” I told him while gritting my teeth.
“Think, Sylvia. It's only a matter of time before the assassins find you here, and these people? They will all be killed” he paused, and for the first time since we've started this conversation, I gulped.
“Come back, be my Luna, and I'll make these people's lives better. Forever” he said.
I should decline and just settle with these people here, but I didn't want to put them in danger.
I was realizing that I had grown to like everyone, even if it had only been a few days. They were accommodating, kind, friendly, and happy.
My presence would only cause them pain.
Valen was offering them a good life if I go with him, that was an opportunity to change their lives.
Of course, it was an offer I couldn't decline.
Going back to Valen would also mean taking revenge on him for using me, and taking the long anticipated revenge for ruining my life years ago.
It was the perfect deal for me. I would just have to go back and face some difficulties again.
Not a big deal.
My gaze didn't soften as I knew I had to keep giving that captain a show while he struggled to catch a glimpse of what we were discussing.
“What's the plan?” I asked Valen.
A smirk curled up his lips. “The full moon is near, show up on that day. It will be the grand finale for my show” he said, then moved inches away from me.
I gritted like he had just said something to infuriate me, but no, just the show.
“I'll pardon the criminal, Sylvia. But she shall leave and never return to the pack” Valen said with a darkened gaze.
The guards' faces twitched in confusion, some of them in anger.
The captain stepped closer to the Alpha. “But, Alpha…..” Valen cuts him off.
“My orders, captain!” He growled and the captain backed off.
So much authority.
“Just so you know, Sylvia. On the day of the full moon, I'll be crowning Vivienne as my Luna” he said then turned, facing his guards.
“Let's leave”
“I guess I should thank you for sparing my life, Alpha” I glared, then turned to the rogues.
“Let's leave. You heard him, we have to go far away” I said to them.
I could feel their hearts knot with mixed and complicated emotions as this place had been their home for a while.
Valen led his team out without glancing back at me. The Captain's gaze met mine and I stared back at him with a gaze full of venom before he left.
When they were all gone, I sighed in relief, sinking into the bed close to me.
“You heard the healer. We have to pack” the old woman croaked.
“It's okay, he said we can stay here” I told them and after thinking about it for a moment, they realized that we were only staging a show.
“Wow. Was that the shadow King?” A man paused. “Damn, he's so handsome”
Yeah. Handsome, but a full time asshole.
