The Assassin
The Assassin
I was surprised to hear maids talking about princess Fiona.
“She's leaving.”
“Her father called her to return home”
How could her father call her right after I scolded her? Was it not that she was leaving because of her failed assassination attempts.
Many thoughts ran through my head as I took care of the garden which was near the main gate leading into the penthouse.
I was so lost in thought that I hadn't noticed a car pull up and someone walking towards me.
When I checked, I saw Fiona just stopping right in front of me.
She smiled awkwardly. The first time I'd see a genuine smile on her face.
“Hey” she called, and one would have thought we were friends if they didn't hear about our history.
“I'm sorry” she said and my face changed, my eyes widening in surprise.
“What?”
“I've been so awful to you and even the word awful is an understatement. I'm sorry” she said again, confirming what my ears had pretended not to hear the first time.
“I realized I've been living a fake me since I've got here, and I've decided to go find myself.” She said, “Valen told me to make muffins while I'm at it, and I might decide to find an handsome man too while I'm at it”
I couldn't help but laugh.
“I thought I won't be able to face you and told Valen to tell you, but guess I can now”
“Forgive me, Sylvia,” she said. “And good luck becoming the Luna of the pack. I might visit then” she said, then turned and left.
I watched her back, watching as she got into the car and mouthing an order for her driver to drive.
A part of me was glad that she would be going, not because she felt threatened by my words, but because she truly wanted a change.
She had played the game of lives, and during that silly game, a life had been lost.
Even though that lady was an assassin, she was still human. Assassins are just humans who have no choice. Of course, they wouldn't have chosen that deadly path if they were given a choice.
Moments later, I was done with what I was doing in the garden as I headed back to the penthouse.
I headed to Valen's room, sneaking there because of the loose mouth maids.
I placed a knock on the door gently and creaked it open.
Turns out, the Alpha wasn't in the room.
“Someone might think she's stealing from the Alpha's room” someone who passed by said and I quickly snapped my head only to see three maids walking by.
Well, maybe rumors about me would just never end.
I left the room, heading to the hall and that was where I found Valen, smiling to his phone like a man who's got no worries in the whole world.
Well, maybe he doesn't.
He sighted me and faced me.
I wasn't there for pleasure, not to joke. I had just thought I could talk to him about Fiona.
“The princess left,” I said.
“I made them fix your lock already.” Valen smirked.
That wasn't the question I asked. I wanted to tell him, but ended up saying a thank you.
He hadn't answered my question yet so I asked. “Why did the princess leave so suddenly?”
“People realize it when they are wrong,” he said, walking towards me. “It was just Fiona's time to change”
He said and I sighed.
“She said to tell you she's sorry” he said.
“I met her. She asked for forgiveness too” I said and Valen nodded, his nod saying ‘I’m glad’
“Then I'll take my leave now, Alpha,” I smiled.
“What? You came to find me just to tell me that?” He asked and I furrowed my brows.
“Why else should I look for you then?” I asked.
“I'll be going on a trip today, and won't be back until the next two days,” he said.
My lips pressed into a thin line as I tried to figure out why the hell that should have something to do with me.
“Have a safe trip then” I said, bowed, then walked towards the door. Well, I was forced to stop again.
“Doesn't that sound too cold?” Valen said.
I turned to face him. “Then what do I do, Alpha? Cling on to you and whine about following you around like a puppy?” I asked with a sarcastic smile then walked away before he could speak further.
Right. He would be gone for two days, but that farewell was meant for his wife.
Vivienne. She had been oddly quiet that I was starting to feel suspicious. And even though I had been avoiding her, I think she had been intentionally staying out of my sights.
Well, who cares.
In the evening, I was quite surprised that Valen had left without even appearing in my face to say goodbye again. That was unusual, or maybe because I angered him earlier.
I decided to take some air in the garden while I watched the moon, thinking about my mother, and my time at the secret academy where Valen had worked.
I smiled bitterly to myself thinking about the wrong path I'm taking right now.
A maid? That was not something someone incredible like me should be doing.
I was gifted with healing abilities that match that of pack healer, but what to do when women aren't allowed near that title.
Damn the men and their stupid rules.
If Valen hadn't ruined my life by signing that document then, maybe…..my life could have turned different. Better than miserable.
I hadn't realized tears had stung my eyes until I stopped staring at the moon.
Moments later, I decided to head back to my room, and while I walked through the darkness which barely lit my coal fire like an historical empire, I sighted movements in the shadows.
I paused, calculating the moves of the person.
Another assassin?
It was confirmed when the person moved out of the shadows, attacking me. The attack was so sudden that I staggered backward, though I blocked it.
His dressing, the unique veil.
He was a man, and surely from the same Creed that had been attacking me.
Hasn't Fiona changed? Then who was doing this?
Vivienne?
