Chapter 69 Chapter 69
Chapter 69
\- Kira -
The evening was cold and quiet in the hospital. The ward where Aria was, was the most peaceful
I was supposed to have closed a long time ago but I had to finish this
So I stayed back and Monitored. When the nurses and other doctors had finished everything they needed to do and were all out, I sneaked back to the room.
Aria was asleep and the drip was going down slowly.
All I had to do was inject this drug into the normal saline, quietly. Nothing dramatic, no evidence and it will go down slowly without anyone noticing anything
I tiptoed to the drip stand, making sure to wake her up
I got close and looked around one more time before taking out the drug. I had prepared it before now and drawn it into the syringe. The needle was capped well
I took it out of my jacket and peered into her face again. She was still not aware of my presence
I uncapped the needle and lifted the syringe
Suddenly, my hands began to shake
I had to drop it down and take deep breaths to steady myself
What is wrong with me? I have to be done with this, or else Natasha will not let me be
All I have to do is inject this thing and get out of here before someone comes in
I brought it close to the normal saline and was about to inject it when I heard footsteps sounding close, very close, too close it will be just a matter of seconds for whoever it was to get in here
And that was because there is no other room here, only Aria's
I was just in time to recap the needle and shoved the syringe into my pocket before the door opened
I turned my back and acted like I was adjusting the set
My heart skipped a beat when Jason walked in
I did not need to turn to see him. His Alpha Aura filled the room even before he was fully in
"Doctor Kira?" He called questioningly and I turned round, too fast, almost guiltily
"Alpha, you...you are here," I tried to sound normal. He raised a brow at me
"Did you not go off duty two hours ago?" He asked
"Uh....uhm no, I mean yes. I signed out a while ago but I had to stay back for some research. I was just about to go and decided to check on the Luna before I do."
"Oh," he mouthed, and there was nothing in his expression to suggest whether he believed me or not. I really hoped he did
"But this," he pointed at the drip. "Is everything alright?"
"Oh that," I looked at it like I wasn't aware it was there in the first place. "Yes, that, of course nothing is wrong with it. I'm just adjusting the flow. Nothing much."
"Alright then. Will you be leaving now?"
"Yes, I will just be on my way out now."
Immediately I got out of the room I let out a deep breath I had not realised I was holding
If there was anyone who I thought would have come in there, it was not the Alpha
I had hoped he wouldn't be around. He's been here for days, never leaving her side.
Every time I walk in, he's there. I thought just for once, perhaps he had gone to take care of some business
But he had returned soon enough, making every mission impossible
I have been trying for days and now I don't think it will ever be possible to hurt Aria while the Alpha is there
\- Natasha -
The rest of my days were filled with sleeplessness and a feeling of failure
I hated more, the fact that Jason was all over Aria like she was something special
He even abandoned his duties to the pack just to remain at her side in the hospital
She's just a woman he needs to get vengeance on someone else, she's nothing special
At some point, I began to wonder if there was actually more to it
But Jason has only loved Elena. After her death, he couldn't love any other person. Five years later, there is no way he would have any feelings for Aria who just arrived at the pack a few months ago, carrying another man's child
I met with Doctor Kira again, and I really hoped she had some good news for me.
"Did you do it?" I asked her and she looked down. "Please don't tell me no. It's been what? Three days since you were trying?"
"The Alpha never leaves her side," the doctor said. "Just when I thought I had gotten some space alone to do what I needed to do, the Alpha returned. He almost caught me. At this point, I think it's my life for hers, and I am tired of trying this way."
I looked away thoughtfully. Even I knew this was beyond the doctor now, but Aria can never be beyond me.
It only means I will try some other means
"Natasha, what are you thinking?" The woman called my attention. "Look, there is something else I have to tell you."
I looked at her, then she looked down again reluctantly
"Spill," I said.
"I had some time to really check into Aria's pregnancy because I was trying to understand how possible it was that they survived. I was right. There's something strange about them. Those babies in her womb? They are not ordinary children."
"What do you mean?" She got my attention.
"They did not appear like normal cubs. There's something strange about them."
I hissed. There was no detail in her claims
"The only strange thing about them is the fact that they are the bastards of a cursed man. Nothing special."
"Natasha you have to be careful regardless. Also, I really think there is something about the way the Alpha treats this stranger turned Luna. The way he looks at her, the way he cares for her. The way..."
"What?" My tone was dangerously low, and she shut the door immediately.
