Chapter 65 Chapter 65
Chapter 65
\- Jason -
I decided to make peace with it. Even though staying away from Aria was affecting me in ways I couldn't understand, I constantly reminded myself it was for the best.
And slowly, I was learning to live through it. I did not believe I would have been the one finding it difficult to cope with my own statement
So we went on, distant, cold and forced greetings whenever we met each other. No more meetings and spending time together
I spend more time in my study, working every hour to get my mind off her
But this particular morning something shifted within me and my wolf stirred with unease
It was a warning of danger ahead and the first person that came to my mind was Aria
I stopped what I was doing for a moment, wondering what it could be.
There was nothing specific, just a feeling of unease. I tried to shake it off
Maybe it was the same feeling that made me want to be around her
Because now I wanted to be sure she was fine, to go to her room and check on her but my pride wouldn't let me
So I shook it off my mind and continued working
Shortly after, Alexei burst into the room with a look of urgency on his face
Immediately, Aria returned to my mind
"Alpha, the queen," Alexei said, confirming my fears. I jumped to my feet.
"What happened to her?"
"She just slumped and is bleeding profusely," Alexei told me.
Bleeding? There was no time for questions. I ran out to her room and found her on the floor with some of the maids around her
"Move out of the way," I said and crouched beside her.
"Aria....Aria," I called softly but there was no response. Blood trickled down her legs and her face was pale.
"Call the hospital," I said to no one in particular as I scooped her into my arms. "Get the car ready."
I ran out to the car, carrying her carefully and we rode to the hospital.
My heart was thumping against my chest. Gosh, nothing must happen to her. I held her hands and squeezed them gently
"Stay with me, Aria please," I muttered under my breath. We got to the hospital soon and they rushed her in. I followed them.
"Alpha, please wait here," Doctor Kira said as she hurriedly put on her gloves, and Aria was moved to an emergency ward.
"Do everything you can," I said and she nodded. I ran my hand through my hair as I paced around.
Alexei and Natasha joined me, each wearing a look of concern on their faces
"Leave," I ordered but none of them moved. "Didn't you hear me?"
"We cannot leave you here alone Alpha," Alexei said.
"I don't need you here. Go back to the palace and make sure everything is in order."
"But Alpha..." Alexei was saying when Natasha stepped in.
"It's okay, I will go," she offered. "Alexei is right. You seem quite distraught so he can stay back with you."
Alexei nodded at her and she walked out.
I sighed deeply.
"How did it happen?" I asked Alexei after Natasha had left us for a while.
"I really don't know Alpha," he replied. "No one seems to know how it really happened. There was just a loud cry and then she was found in a pool of her blood."
Hurt rose in my chest and I hated myself for the wall of pride I had let build between us
I sensed something was wrong but I couldn't stop it.
"Don't worry Alpha," Alexei said. "She'll be fine."
"Did she complain about anything before now?" I asked him. The last time I was aware of her, she was perfectly fine.
If the pregnancy had started developing issues it would have been after I told her we needed to keep things official and she decided not to tell me
I can only ask Alexei because at least, she's been talking with him these past few days
"None that I know of Alpha," he told me. "I am even surprised how this happened."
We can only wait for what the doctors will say after. But they were taking so long in there and with every passing second my anxiety grew thick
And I was becoming impatient. I thought about all the possibilities.
What if she lost the baby? Or even her life? May the goddess forbid such tragedy.
Nothing must happen to her or the baby.
After a long wait, the door finally opened and I rushed to doctor Kira
"Well?" I asked her impatiently, watching her face for any clues of good or bad news
Her face was drawn with tiredness. They've been in there for a while.
"The Luna is stable at the moment," she told me and I felt relief wash down my insides. "We've been able to stop the bleeding. She's still unconscious now."
There seemed to be more than the doctor was saying.
"And?" I had to push.
"I am so sorry, she lost the baby," she said.
I looked at her like she had suddenly transformed into an Alien.
"What baby?" I asked without thinking and she shifted back slightly. There was fear in her eyes. Maybe I had reacted too strongly with the look on my face.
"Alpha I am so sorry, but we couldn't save the baby. She lost so much blood."
We are sorry.
We couldn't save the baby.
She lost so much blood.
Those words kept ringing in my head, messing with my mind. The pregnancy, Aria's baby is gone.
Just like that? No one has explained to me how it actually happened. Everything was fine just before now.
Just like the day Elena and my unborn child died. Those were the same words I heard. They told me they were sorry. Said they did everything they could.
In the distance, someone was calling my name, but I felt in a world totally different from theirs.
