Chapter 61 Chapter 61
Chapter 61
\- Jason -
I sent for Aria when I waited to see if she'd come by to check on me at my study and she didn't.
Even though I did not want to accept it, I was constantly hoping she'd come around.
I enjoyed her company far more than anything else these days
I was at the table, scrolling while my ears waited, listening carefully for when she'd come in
But when she eventually did, I pretended I wasn't paying attention. Like I had not been patiently anticipating her arrival. I kept my head down like I was so engulfed in what I was doing.
My chest heated in excitement as she walked towards me, getting closer.
"Alpha," she called. "You sent for me?"
I almost forgot my act and shot my head up, almost immediately, it was easy to tell I was anticipating.
I quickly braced myself and cleared my throat.
"Yes uhm, Aria. Yes, I did."
I held her eyes. It felt like she was changing with a different kind of glow with each passing day and her skin became softer, her lips, round, just the perfect size, soft pink and...
"Alpha?" Her voice was a bit louder.
"Yes? What?"
"I was actually trying to get your attention," she said. "It seems you were not even paying attention to what I am saying."
"Oh, I uh," I shook my head and forced myself to look away. "I was just lost in thoughts but I wasn't thinking about you obviously."
"Huh?" She raised a brow.
Oh shit! What am I even saying?
"I was asking if there is anything I can do for you. You sent for me."
"Oh, yes. I mean no. I mean, I am stuck with some work here," I adjusted quickly in my seat. "I was hoping you could, you know," I gestured with my hand. "I mean, you did a pretty good job with the last one and I was very impressed."
At this point, I was just saying anything that came to my head without thinking and I was sure I looked silly. The face she gave me proved it.
"Oka....y?" She dragged. "Fine then. Let's see what you are working on then. Now it's not like I'll be able to solve it of course. I don't know it all but let's just see."
I wasn't even listening, not paying attention while she mumbled some calculations. She was standing next to me. Very close.
Her scent hit me differently. I marked her off course. She is my mate and her scent shouldn't be unfamiliar.
But that was not what it was now. Not just familiar. It was something more, something that made my wolf stir
Her skin was neat and thick in the right proportions. It must be the pregnancy, I thought to myself. Because even her breasts were fuller
Gosh! No Jason. Not now. How am I even this distracted by her? I tried to wrench the thoughts away but I couldn't.
She finally came to a solution on the sheet before me and I didn't even know how she came about it.
"Wow, this is..." I managed to look at the scroll. "This is absolutely brilliant, Aria. You are simply amazing."
"Thank you," she smiled and bowed lightly, playfully.
"Is there any other thing you need me to do for you?"
Not really. I just wanted her to stay here. Not for anything but for me to watch her, to listen to her talk about anything. But all day will be gone, and I cannot afford such luxury as a leader.
I sighed in resignation.
"No..."
"Alright I will be gone then," she said almost immediately, not letting the word out completely.
She strolled out. How rude! So she doesn't want to be with me as much as I wanted her around Huh.
Gosh, what is even wrong with me? I rubbed my temple gently.
I heard someone walking in and my hopes rose. She came back.
I knew it. I can't be the only one craving her presence this much.
"Aria?"
"Not her," that masculine voice can never be Aria's soft, silk and peaceful charming voice.
I turned to see Alexei. There was a deep frown on my face. Why him?
"You don't look pleased to see me," he said with a grin, catching me before I could fix my face. "You thought it was Aria?"
I didn't answer him. Somehow it felt embarrassing.
"My goodness Alpha, it seems something is cooking," he teased. "When did you start looking forward to seeing a woman like this?"
"Do I look like a chef to you?" I asked him.
"I wouldn't dare eat your food. My stomach wouldn't survive it," was the reply.
"Are you a chef?" I asked.
"Not exactly but I can boldly say between the two of us, I cook better."
"So no one's cooking here. Nothing is cooking."
"Ah, denial," he chuckled and I glared at him.
"You don't have any business?"
"Not really, I just wanted to check up on you. Now, before you ask me out, which I can see with the look on your face, that is what you want to do, Imma protect my dignity and head right out."
He was still laughing while he made for the door. Left alone I began to ponder. Was I really having a soft spot for Aria that someone else could even notice?
This cannot be. I cannot allow it. I promised myself not to have anything to do with any other woman ever again.
Elena is the only woman I have loved and will ever love. I cannot love someone else.
No. I told myself. It must be the closeness I was beginning to allow. I have to cut off all of that. We are becoming too familiar, too comfortable and relaxed.
I have to be strict, official. Besides we had an agreement. This was strictly business, and we had to stick to that. I cannot afford anything to go beyond that.
