Chapter 54 Chapter 54
Chapter 54
\- Sophie -
I held his hands
"Don't think too much about it," I said. "Miscarriages happen. It is not necessarily because of the curse. Do you still not believe that I am your mate? Your true mate? We are perfect for each other."
"I don't know it's just..."
"It's just nothing," I touched his face lightly. "You are letting this get to you too much. Do not forget it is hard on me as much as it is on you. I love you so much and I feel everything. As your wife and Luna of this pack, it is my duty to provide an heir to the throne. Do you think I would be happy that I am not able to?"
I moved away from him slowly.
"I already feel like a failure," I sniffed pitifully. "I've failed you and I have failed this pack."
Marcus held my hand and pulled me back to him softly
"No darling," he held my chin. "You have not done anything wrong. It is not your fault."
"Neither is it yours," I told him softly. "But I cannot help it when you are feeling this way. It breaks me. It breaks my heart."
"Sophie..." Marcus rested his forehead against mine and I held his neck gently.
"We've been able to make a baby before," I told him. "Wait till we've failed to make another before worrying about the curse."
"You're right," he said and we kissed deeply for a few seconds.
"I've missed you," he muttered. "So much."
Marcus had avoided having sex with me because he did not want anything to happen to the pregnancy
I giggled.
"I've missed you too, darling," I said into his ear. "Do you want us to try for another baby right now?"
He looked at me.
"The doctor said you needed enough time to get back..."
"If I'm not strong enough I wouldn't ask," I smiled at him and kissed him more deeply. Leading him to the bed.
I straddled him and rode him till his eyes rolled back, and he grunted in pleasure.
"Damn, I didn't know you had that much energy," he said as he moaned my name
By the time we were done, he collapsed on the bed and fell soundly asleep
I smiled, satisfied. I had to keep him busy too for a while so he wouldn't have need for James who's out on my errand.
You are mine to control, Marcus Rivera. Rest well because you will never be able to figure this out. Not now, not in a long time.
When James eventually returned I wanted nothing but a positive result.
Aria's body, dead or alive.
"Did you find her?" I asked him and he shook his head. My chest tightened but I remained calm.
"Thomas took us to an abandoned house," he told me. "Swore that was where he had left Aria. We asked some people around if they knew her. Someone did. A neighbour. He said he only knew about her when she had some complications at night and he rushed her to the hospital. Then never saw her again. We went to the said hospital but there were no records of her anywhere. Aside from that, no one seems to know anything about her."
"Nothing..." I muttered. "I cannot take that. She has to be found. She's out there somewhere, alive."
"But we don't know where...and you should know I cannot go any further, abandoning my pack duties and place by the alpha. He'd begin to ask questions if I were gone for long."
"Send some men to that town. Search every nook and cranny. Find her."
He sighed
"Alright then. Meanwhile, Thomas is waiting to be settled."
I glared at James as if he were Thomas
"Settled?" I repeated unbelievably. "What exactly are we settling him for when he's not been able to produce her?"
"He's sworn he said everything he knew and you promised. He said he demands you honour your words. Said I should remind you."
"A rogue knows honour?" I scoffed. "Take his head."
"What?"
"You heard me James," I looked at him. "Kill him. He is no good to me anymore. He's better dead than alive."
"We don't need more blood on our hands," he said.
"And we don't need many people knowing our secrets," I told him. "That rogue knows way too much. And did you think I'd negotiate with him? Still, he's failed me. I thought I could find something tangible but didn't. So get rid of him and continue the search for Aria."
There was silence for a while
"Is it worth it?" James asked me and I looked at him. "This whole thing. You're literally on your toes every day to remain on that throne. Isn't it exhausting? When will it end? For how long can you keep up with this? For how long will you have to fight for what you shouldn't have to if it were rightfully yours? How many more people will you have to take down before this ends? Do you even know how it ends?"
"I am glad you care about me being exhausted," I smiled. "But I cannot recall when I complained to you. In the future, I would appreciate it if you would carry out my orders without any questions or comments unless I ask. Let me worry about myself."
He turned and walked away, but his words remained with me.
No, this is no exhaustion. This is what it means to live. And I am not leading a boring life
I've learned from a very young age that it was the survival of the fittest and power does not come by when you sit back and relax
To be and remain in power one must put in the work
The desire for power can be consuming, but it does not exhaust me
I will do whatever it takes to keep it. I will take down whoever stands in my way. I, Sophie Santos, would have whatever I want, whoever I want, and no one can stop me.
