Chapter 53 Chapter 53
Chapter 53

\- Sophie -

I leaned back on the chair, watching Thomas closely

He seemed to be contemplating what his answers would be and I waited

"Look, all the odds are against you," I told him. "You can choose to have it the better way by telling me all I need to know, or else you'd not get through easily."

"You threaten to hand me over to the King for treason," he said. "But I'm not the only one who's foul here and I know you know that I know this much about you."

"Do you think you are special now?" I asked calmly. "You are nothing, a nobody and the King has no business having any conversations with you. You are a rogue. You don't even have a clean record. Doctor Mills, your accomplice was a noble doctor in the pack, even she was not spared."

"And why should I do your bidding then? If you did not spare the doctor why should I think you'd spare me?"

"Your doubt is valid. But as I said, I am not threatened by you," I looked him from head to toe. "I will settle you handsomely. And after I've gotten what I want you can go on with your life. You don't have any business with pack matters. And if you don't want this, you can deal with whatever the consequences are."

He went quiet for a while. Despite his reluctant questions I could see his resolve was wavering.

"It was true," he said. "I helped Aria leave the pack on Doctor Mills' orders. And she made me swear never to speak a word about it."

"She is dead now," I reminded him. "You don't have to hold on to it."

He sighed.

"I drove Aria to town. I wanted to take her to a pack I knew that accepted strangers without question, but she insisted she did not want to have anything to do with packs anymore. So I drove her to a total human territory where she can start a new life as she requested."

I looked at James and he looked back at me.

"I speak the truth," Thomas said. "I drove her to the town myself and she settled before I left. I had to confirm that. It was part of the orders."

I nodded slowly. So it was true. Aria had escaped alive with that child growing in her belly.

"So you can take us to where she is?" James asked him and Thomas turned to me earnestly.

"Luna please," he said. "As far as I know, Aria is not a very troublesome person. You don't have to worry that she'd return to this pack someday to cause issues for you. She's too soft to want to return for any chaos."

"Chaos?" I raised a brow at him. "You're saying I am chaos?"

"No....that was not what I meant. What I am saying is, you don't really have to look for Aria. If you ask me, I am sure she never wants to return here anymore. She didn't want to have anything to do with werewolves or packs anymore."

"Well nobody is asking you that," I said. "What you are going to do now is take us to where she is and you are going to do as you are told."

He hesitated for a while, looked around the room before nodding his head

"May I ask what you intend to do after that?"

"It is none of your business Thomas," I said to him. "Your job is to carry out what you are asked without question. Stick to it."

I stood up and faced James

"Go with the young man and find Aria. Bring her to me, dead or alive," then I looked down at Thomas. "When you return with what I need, I'll pay you handsomely. Enough for you to live your life without any worries. Make sure not to disappoint me."

Aria had managed to successfully escape my hands, but I will not rest till I see the end of her.

If only she had not taken in Marcus' child I wouldn't have bothered with her

But she had proven she was his true mate. The only one who could give him children

That had given her all the advantage over me else Aria was no match for me

It would not take me anything to crush her

When I find her, I will tear that baby out of her and kill it myself

If I cannot have Marcus' child no other woman will

I returned to the palace to meet Marcus standing by the window in the room

I called out his name and he did not reply

I walked towards him and touched him gently on the shoulder

"Where are you coming from?" He asked rather coldly when I did and I took my hands off, wondering about his coldness.

"What do you mean?" I asked and he turned to look at me. I tried to check for any clues in his eyes.

"I asked a question, Sophie," he said.

"Whoa, take it down," I chuckled nervously. "Why are you sounding that way? I only went out to see the people. It's been a while since I did and I just thought..."

"For a woman who just lost her baby?" Marcus interrupted, his voice raised and without warmth. "You are supposed to be healing, sober and grieving. Not going out to have a good time with the people."

"Marcus..." I called tearfully. "You think this is not breaking me? This is my first child we are talking about. Well, if you must know, I thought going out to commune with my people would give me some luck, and I can conceive soon again."

His eyes softened and he sighed.

"I was sorry I yelled at you," I said. "I have been overwhelmed and affected since the miscarriage. I cannot seem to understand what is going on. Maybe the goddess is punishing me for some reason. Maybe Aria..."

"Marcus," I called hurriedly with a frown.
