I felt something hovering over me while I struggled to catch some sleep.
I slowly opened my eyes and there was a figure before me. It did not register at first, until I opened my eyes fully and jumped up in fright.
"Relax," Sophie said. "You are not as tough as we all think you are, huh?"
Her voice had lost its initial sweetness and seduction, and I have returned to my senses but the deed has been done.
Now that she hasn't gotten her way with me, I don't know what is going on in that little head... no, that head ain't little. That head is full of evil thoughts.
"I knew you were all talk and no action," she mocked me. "Talking about how you wanted to change your ways and not betray your pack and Alpha. But here you are..."
"Sophie please..." I tried to make her stop. "It's late at night and we have just done this. Can we talk about whatever you want to talk about in the morning?"
"This is not my house, and you are not my husband," she said, running her hands through her hair smoothly. I could not tell when she had straightened it and dressed back into her disguise. "I have to return home, to the palace where I rightfully belong and beside my husband."
"Is that safe?" I wondered aloud, and not even because I care about her safety.
"I don't think you care about that," she said as if she could read my thoughts. "And I don't need you to care. I can take care of myself."
I bet she could.
"About what we discussed earlier, by now you should know that there is no going back for you. You are not done until I say so. I need you to do some work for me and you must be ready whenever I call on you."
I sighed, defeated.
"What do you need me to do for you?" I asked.
"For now just watch the alpha closely. If you see any foul or suspicious movement, let me know. Be on standby and ready for any instructions. While at it, you can still play your perfect Loyal Beta. You play it cool and no one has to know else if things don't work out because of you, remember what is at stake. Your life and everything you've ever worked for."
"I will try my best," I muttered.
"You don't have a choice, sweetheart. And I know you're a good boy, you'll do well. That was why I chose you." She moved closer and kissed my lips lightly.
She turned round and made for the door.
"Sophie?" I called out and she stopped without looking back.
"The pregnancy," I said. "We've finally been able to make Marcus believe you are with child. How do we keep up with that when you are not pregnant and you know too, that you have to start showing soon?"
She did not answer for a while, and I did not want to believe that, in all her cunningness, she did not think that through.
This was a realistic problem. She'd have to show being pregnant for real and even present a baby.
"Did you not think of that?" I wanted to know, it was my turn to mock her. I followed through and chuckled in disbelief.
"Of course I did," her voice remained calm. "I plan on how to pull through with that, and you are going to help me. We'll discuss it when I am ready to."
And with that, she walked out of the room. I leaned back on the bed and berated myself.
There was no use. I let myself fall into her trap once again and now I don't know what it would take for me to ever come out of it.
It was like making a deal with the devil himself, in this case the she-devil.
There's no backing out even if you wanted to. She keeps dragging you in and in until you're neck deep into it
This was no time for regrets. I have had enough of that, yet nothing changed, so I had better get some rest.

I returned to the palace with a satisfied smile on my face.
I have handled James for now and if in the future he makes any funny moves, I would not handle him as softly as I did this time.
But for now, I had him wrapped in my fingers and he would do all my bidding till I didn't need him anymore
He wouldn't even be able to expose me if he wanted to. He'd be losing his head in the process and unless he doesn't like his life.
When I got to the room Marcus was still sleeping soundly on the bed.
The fool...
I don't know how long before he realises he had thrown away his true mate for a lie. But before he does it would have been too late
And the plans I have are for him to never find out
I don't feel sorry for him so long as I can remain Luna to the exploit of his lineage
He does not even need one anyway. It would be a waste, to have children and heirs who would take after him
To be sincere, I am even doing the Pack a favour, ending his lineage
I changed my clothes carefully and slowly so I wouldn't make any noise. Time to put back my act of the sweet and loving Luna as expected. The one carrying the Alpha's heir.
I slipped into the bed and covered myself. But not long after I had settled in...
"Where are you coming from?"
I froze and stayed silent, not believing I had heard Marcus even though I clearly did.
"Sophie, where are you coming from?" He repeated, his voice suggesting he had been awake for a while now, and I wondered how long he had noticed I was not in bed.
