Chapter 55 Please Don't Go!
Jennifer and Alex turned around and were shocked to see Gerald walking towards them, his face tense and frightening. His eyes flashed with anger.
Gerald, who had originally intended to leave, changed his mind when he heard their conversation. Gerald recalled the previous incident.
Flashback to a few minutes earlier
He still remembered hearing a sound behind the door, which happened to be slightly ajar.
While he was hiding, John, who had just dropped off the doctor, asked,
"Alpha Gerald? What is Alpha doing here?" John exclaimed again.
Gerald pulled Beta John's hand and whispered close to him, "SSST! Be quiet! They'll hear us!"
Beta John did the same even though he didn't understand what they were doing at the moment.
"Are we eavesdropping right now?" John asked, confused.
Gerald turned his head, "I said, be quiet! I-I just want to know Jenny's condition and what she's thinking right now, so it's not eavesdropping! Do you understand?"
"But Alpha..." John was about to argue, but then shut his mouth when Gerald turned around with a frightening look.
"Okay! We're not eavesdropping!" Beta John finally said resignedly.
Alpha Gerald slightly pulled the corner of his lips, "Good! Now be quiet! You're making me unable to hear what Jenny is saying!"
Beta John could only nod while thinking to himself, 'Doesn't that mean we're listening to Mrs. Jenny's conversation? Ah, Alpha Gerald is so strange! Do people who are in love always act this weird? It's really confusing!'
Until finally, he was startled by Alpha Gerald's shout as he opened Jennifer's door loudly.
Flashback Off
"Gerald? What are you doing here? Isn't it..." asked Jennifer, her voice choked.
"John!!" shouted Gerald without answering Jennifer's question.
Beta John, who had frozen in place because of Aloha Gerald's shout, hurriedly entered.
"Yes, Alpha, I mean Mr. Williams! Is there anything I can help you with?" John asked, still confused.
"Please take Alex outside for a moment! I have something to discuss with Jenny!" Gerald exclaimed without turning his head, he just stared at Jennifer with a flash of anger.
"Yes, Mr. Williams! Come on, young Mr. Alex, let's play outside for a while?" Beta John tried to teach Alex, who was just as confused as he was.
Beta John gently pulled Alex's hand. After a few steps, Alex turned to look at his father, Gerald.
"Daddy..." Alex called out, his voice trailing off.
Gerald, who was emotional, clenched his fists, closed his eyes for a moment to try to calm himself, and then turned to Alex with a smile.
"Yes, son? Don't worry, go with Uncle John for a moment, okay? Daddy will come after you later," Gerald said softly.
"Okay! Don't be long, Daddy! I'll be waiting for you!" Alex said with a smile.
Gerald just nodded slowly, "John, take Alex now!"
"Yes, Alpha!" Beta John nodded and pulled Alex to walk out again.
After Alex left, Gerald walked over to close Jennifer's door and lock it, then put the key in his pants pocket.
"What are you doing? Gerald! Open the door! Are you locking me in now, huh?" Jennifer panicked and hurriedly got up from her bed. But because she was so weak, she stumbled.
Gerald quickly caught Jennifer before she fell, her head still aching and her body very weak.
Gerald carried her, even though Jennifer struggled and shouted, "Gerald! Put me down! I can walk by myself! Put me down!"
Gerald ignored her and stared at Jennifer with a flash of anger, "Don't test my patience, Jenny! Do you want to faint like you did earlier? Be quiet! You're still sick and very weak! You can fight me when you're better! Now, be quiet! We have something to take care of here, don't we?"
Jennifer swallowed hard, "W-what do you mean?"
Gerald didn't answer immediately. He gently laid Jennifer back down on the bed.
Jennifer remained silent, accepting the seemingly gentle treatment.
After placing Jennifer, Gerald pulled a small chair from the dressing table and sat in front of Jennifer, staring at her, and Jennifer stared back at him without stopping since Gerald had placed her on the bed.
"Are you done staring at me? Can we talk now?" asked Alpha Gerald softly, slightly curling his lips. Jennifer's behavior of staring at him since earlier made him smile a little and calmed his anger that had peaked.
"I-I wasn't staring at you!" Jennifer looked down in annoyance. She was just a little confused by Gerald's gentle treatment earlier.
"Yeah... yeah... Of course not! You weren't staring at me! Keep lying like you did earlier!" Gerald said sarcastically.
Jennifer looked up at Gerald, displeased with his words. "What do you mean by that? Huh? Are you mocking me?"
Gerald shrugged casually, crossing his arms over his chest. "What do you think? Isn't it a lie to say something untrue to my son earlier? Huh? What did you say earlier, that Alex isn't my son?"
Jennifer's eyes widened. "You were eavesdropping on my conversation with Alex? You..."
Jennifer turned her face away.
"If I hadn't eavesdropped on your conversation, I would never have known that you were planning to run away and take my son with you! Without my permission! After 6 years of struggling to find you and finally meeting you, you chose to run away again, is that it?" Gerald stared at Jennifer with a flash of hurt and sadness. His voice was full of anger and disappointment, trembling slightly.
Jennifer turned back and looked at Gerald, only to find gloom in his beautiful eyes.
'Why does he look so sad? Are Alex and I really that important to him? But why? Is Alex really his son? But didn't he say... earlier...' Jennifer thought to herself.
"I did say that Alex wasn't my son to the elders, I did that on purpose! It's not that I don't acknowledge you! I just didn't want them to bother you! I don't know what their plans have been all this time! A few years ago when we were separated, I suspected they were involved! But I couldn't find enough evidence! Over the past six years, I've finally been able to control them because I'm the only one who can provide for them on the edge of the forest! I was finally able to control them! I didn't want them to find my weakness, do you understand? That's what I wanted to say this morning, but you misunderstood and... I ended up hurting you! I'm sorry!" Gerald took a deep breath.
"So... that wolf... was... you?" Jennifer asked fearfully.
Gerald nodded slowly.
"I can understand if you're angry and upset because of what I said and I hurt you... maybe you're afraid of me now! But believe me, Jenny, I didn't do it on purpose! For years I've been cursed and I can turn into something terrible when my illness flares up! But in my heart, I would never hurt you on purpose! I would rather hurt myself than hurt you! That's why I chose to leave this house... because I am guilty towards you! I'm sorry! But please... don't leave again! I won't be able to bear it if you leave again! I could go crazy!" Gerald held Jennifer's hand tightly and then looked down. Without realizing it, a single tear fell and wet Jennifer's hand.
Jennifer slowly pulled her hand away, and Gerald could only accept it. He knew Jennifer must hate him very much right now.
After a long silence, Jennifer finally spoke.
"Alright!"
Gerald lifted his head and looked at Jennifer, "What do you mean by that? Are you... not going to leave? Have you forgiven me?"
"I..."
