Chapter 30

"Sierra I need you to sit down because what I am about to tell you might be very hard for you to hear.” With a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach, I watched Shane's somber expression. I obediently took a seat on the worn-out couch in the room, bracing myself for the bombshell he was about to reveal.

“Last night I got a message," Shane began, his voice filled with a mix of uncertainty and disbelief. "The man who was at your house the night that you were grabbed was my uncle." My mind whirled with confusion as I struggled to comprehend the gravity of his statement.

"Your uncle?" I exclaimed, my voice laced with disbelief. "What are you talking about?" The room suddenly felt suffocating, the air heavy with tension Taking a deep breath, Shane continued, his voice heavy with the weight of his revelation. "My uncle is Alpha Logan," he revealed, dropping the bombshell that sent shockwaves through my entire being. It was as if time stood still as his words hung in the air, threatening to shatter the delicate reality I had clung to.

"He is the one that has been following you," Shane continued his voice barely above a whisper. "And from what my driver found out, he was also one of the three people that went into your grandmother's house and attacked her." His words hit me like a physical blow, the realization crashing over me in waves. My mind struggled to process the unimaginable truth. As if to add a face to the name that now haunted my nightmares, Shane handed me a picture of Alpha Logan. In the old, faded photograph, a younger version of Shane stood beside a man with a chilling gaze. The resemblance between them was undeniable. "I am the little boy in the picture with him," he confessed, his voice filled with a mixture of regret and sorrow.

I stared at the image in my hand, the weight of the truth sinking deeper into my soul. In that moment, a rush of memories flooded my mind, overwhelming me with the severity of the situation. It was as if the universe mirrored my internal chaos, for outside the room, a storm gathered, the dark clouds matching the turmoil within my heart.

As I sat there, clutching the picture with trembling hands, I realized that my life would never be the same again. The truth had been laid bare before me, exposing a sinister web of deceit and betrayal that extended far beyond what I had ever imagined. And in the midst of it all, it hit me.

The little boy that only appeared in my nightmare once in a while, was Shane. He was there the night my pack was attacked and my mother was killed. The man in the picture that he just told me was his uncle was the same man that tried to get me that night. He sent his men after me, and they failed. But what I realize now that I didn't know then, was that they saw Gram take me in. Have they been watching me for 20 years?

I took a deep breath, trying to steady my racing heart as Shane's words echoed in my mind. "Sierra, I need you to know that I had nothing to do with that. I was staying with my uncle that night at your pack party. He took me along with him. I briefly remember him telling me that we were going to the party because there was something there that he wanted. He never told me what it was. And it wasn't until I got this information did everything clicked. That night's memories came flooding back with vengeance."

My mind raced, trying to process this bewildering revelation. The pieces of the puzzle were slowly coming together, but it was a terrifying realization. Shane, the boy from my nightmares, was connected to the very man who had brought destruction upon my pack and caused the death of my beloved mother and father. How could this be? How could fate intertwine our lives in such a haunting way?

As the weight of the truth settled upon me, I felt a mix of conflicting emotions. Anger, betrayal, and confusion mingled with a trace of hope - hope that maybe, just maybe, Shane had truly been unaware of his uncle's nefarious plans. But could I trust him? Could I trust anyone connected to the man responsible for my family's tragedy?

I looked into Shane's eyes, searching for answers. They held a mixture of sorrow, regret, and a glimmer of something else I couldn't quite decipher. It was as if he was silently begging me to believe him, to see past the horror of his family's connection to mine.

I didn't know what to say. Even as the words formed in my mind, they seemed inadequate. The enormity of the situation engulfed me, leaving my tongue tied and my heart heavy with the weight of my past and the uncertainty of my future. Shane watched me with a mixture of anxiety and anticipation, his eyes pleading for understanding. The undeniable bond we shared, forged from the ashes of tragedy, now held the potential for something greater - a chance at redemption, perhaps, or even the possibility of breaking free from the cycle of violence and hatred.

In that moment, I made a decision. I couldn't let myself be consumed by anger and vengeance. It was time to unravel the truth, to delve into the secrets that had haunted my life for far too long. And if Shane was truly innocent, then maybe, just maybe, we could find a way to piece together the shattered fragments of our pasts and forge a brighter future - one free from the darkness that had plagued us both. With a determined resolve, I looked at Shane and spoke the words that held both uncertainty and a flicker of trust, "I don't know if I can fully believe you, Shane. But if what you're saying is true, then we have a common enemy. Let's find the answers together."

A few tears fell from his eyes, making me believe that he was very relieved to hear my answer. The weight of the moment hung in the air, a mix of relief and uncertainty intertwining. My mind raced with conflicting emotions as I tried to comprehend the gravity of the situation at hand. "However," I added, my voice wavering slightly under the weight of my words, "I think I might stay with my Gram at her home in the meantime." The words slipped out, tinged with a hint of hesitation. It was a decision born out of a need to protect both myself and Gram. With a heavy heart, I continued, voicing the thoughts that had been haunting me. "I understand that you were just a little kid, innocently caught up in a web of deceit. But the way things are panning out, I need to make sure that in your later years, you were still unaware of who I was and what this man wanted from me." The truth hung in the air, a bittersweet reality that had to be faced.

"And I need to find out how close to your uncle you were or are," I confessed, desperately searching for answers that would help me understand the extent of the situation. The room seemed to shrink in the face of the unknown. "I mean, if you were staying with him on that horrible night, how many times since then did you stay with him?" The question hung in the air, the silence punctuated only by the sound of our shallow breaths.

The weight of my words was not lost on me as I pressed on, my voice filled with a mix of determination and vulnerability. "I need to know if you ever spied on me for him." The words hit the air with a harshness I couldn't hide. The trust had been shattered, and I needed to navigate the pieces to ensure my safety moving forward. As the tears continued to fall down his cheeks, a somber realization settled within me. This journey of unraveling secrets and unmasking truths was far from over. The path ahead was treacherous, with each step leading me closer to the heart of the matter. But it was a journey I had to undertake, no matter the cost.

“Sierra, I can understand your reservations and concerns about the situation. It's only natural to question someone's intentions, especially when it involves making significant life changes.” I could sense the worry in his voice, a clear indication of how important I am to him. However, it's crucial to weigh both the pros and cons before making any decisions. “Sierra, I want to assure you that I am fully committed to helping you in any way possible,” he replied, his voice filled with genuine concern. I understood his worries, but I couldn't help but empathize with his fear of losing me. Truth be told, the idea of leaving him was starting to cross my mind, but I hadn't vocalized it yet. It wasn't that I didn't trust him; it was the mysterious circumstances surrounding our connection that left me questioning everything.

It was strange how he seemed to know exactly where I was, even though his pack was located at least 30 minutes away from my town. Why would he be coming to my town and frequenting my coffee shop for weeks? It raised some serious doubts in my mind. Was I just a pawn in some elaborate scheme? Was his interest in me purely coincidental, or was there something more sinister at play?

Despite these troubling thoughts, I appreciated his concern for my safety. His proposal to help my grandma and me pack our things and find refuge in the house his parents had left him on the pack land was tempting. It offered a sense of intimacy and security that living in the pack house with all the unmated wolves couldn't provide. Perhaps a change of scenery was what we needed, away from prying eyes and potential dangers.

What if I found out something that would shatter my perception of him, making it impossible for me to trust him? These uncertainties gnawed at the back of my mind, making it difficult to fully embrace his proposal. Regardless, I recognized the sincerity in his voice. It was evident that he truly cared for me and was willing to do whatever it took to ensure my safety. If push came to shove, he promised to help me return to my grandmother's house with the utmost security. It was a tempting offer, and while doubts still loomed, I knew that at this moment, he was the only person I could turn to. As I weighed my options, I couldn't help but wonder what secrets were concealed beneath the surface of this enticing invitation. Would I uncover the truth after accepting his offer? Or would I be diving headfirst into a situation that could potentially put my life in even greater danger? Only time would tell, and for now, all I could do was trust my instincts and follow my heart.
