Chapter 215: I'm Coming for You Personally
Chapter 215: I'm Coming for You Personally
Evelyn's POV
Juniper never finished her sentence.
She didn't need to.
The force didn't come from any single direction—it hit from everywhere at once. Like the air itself had gone bad. Like some invisible hand was wrapping around the whole territory and slowly making a fist. Wherever it touched, something dropped. Not pain exactly. Something underneath pain—the will to think straight, the instinct to push back, the basic urge to stay on your feet—all of it going soft, like wax left too close to a fire.
It's here, my wolf said.
I know.
The mind link blew up all at once—
Something's off, Elliot said.
My legs feel weird, Mark said.
Some voice I didn't recognize: I want to sit down. I don't know why.
I didn't step back.
I pulled my Beta bloodline aura up from the bottom and shoved it out—no testing, no gradual push, just everything at once. It spread in all directions like a stone hitting still water, ripples going wide and fast.
My aura hit Brandon's control magic somewhere in the middle of the territory, on a layer no one could see.
Two forces hitting head-on. Neither one moving.
The ground shifted under my feet. Just once, barely anything—but everyone felt it come up through their soles.
Cyrus came through the link, same flat tone he always had, except the content wasn't flat at all:
Evelyn's aura is reading as a full circular coverage on my equipment. It spans the whole territory. I've never seen data like this.
Full second of silence.
Then Elliot: Evie, I can feel you out there. That thing's pushing down but it's not breaking through. That's you blocking it.
I didn't answer. Holding the aura this far out left nothing spare for talking.
Orion answered for me. Yeah, she's holding. You want to help her—stay sharp.
Milo said, Okay but what are we supposed to do.
Orion said, Handle what's in front of you. She's got the rest.
Freya said, Copy.
Then a heavy thud—something hitting the ground hard nearby.
Elliot said, ...I just watched Freya throw a guy who had a foot on her. Actually kind of incredible.
Freya said, Eyes forward.
Elliot said, I am. I'm also boosting morale. Multitasking.
Mark said, It's working, for the record. Thanks, Elliot.
I caught all of that while staying locked in the aura push, and something in my chest loosened a little—not the magical kind. Something else.
These people, my wolf said. Somewhere between exasperated and fond.
I know, I said. Let them.
Juniper moved on my right.
She didn't try to match Brandon head-on—that would burn through her fast. Instead she came in sideways, working against the structure of his magic rather than the raw force of it. She wasn't trying to knock it down. Just poking holes in the seal, the way you'd compromise a container by going after the seams. It was still holding, but it had started to bleed pressure.
I could feel the difference. Brandon's inward push started going uneven in certain spots—consistent force developing these irregular gaps, like something woven tight suddenly fraying in patches.
Nadia was stationed to Juniper's right, holding an anchor point. She couldn't cast, but what Juniper needed wasn't brute force—she needed someone who could follow the logic of how the structure worked. Nadia could do that. She didn't say a word, just stood there, completely locked in, eyes fixed on something no one else could see.
Milo stood next to them. He couldn't help with the magic side. He could help with everything else.
One of Brandon's controlled fighters swung around from the north, coming straight at Nadia and Juniper's position. Milo cut him off before he got close, put him down, came back, voice easy:
Clear on the node side. Keep going.
Nadia said through the link, Thanks.
Don't worry about it. This is literally my job.
Your job is guarding me specifically?
Top of the list, yeah.
Half the link made some kind of noise at that.
Sophia said, Focus.
Quiet.
I filed all of it away and pushed my attention back to the aura hold.
The standoff ran close to ten minutes.
Then Juniper leaned toward my ear, voice low: His spread magic's contracting. He's pulling it back toward one target.
I know, I said. I can feel it.
The pressure that had been distributed across the whole territory was drawing inward now, slow and deliberate, funneling toward a single point. No question which point.
Brandon pulled his attention off the territory and put it on me. Didn't move it.
He started walking forward.
No rush. Every step deliberate, like he'd already decided how this ended and the walk was just a formality. The people behind him stayed put. Just him coming toward me, eyes not moving.
Something about being tracked like that locked up my whole back.
He's zeroed in on you, my wolf said.
Yeah. I see him.
The link went quiet. Everyone felt the air change—whatever lightness had slipped through over the last few minutes pulled back all at once, and the tension snapped tighter than it had been before.
Brandon walked until every person on the field could read his face. Then he stopped.
He smiled. Something in it I couldn't put a name to, but my stomach dropped when I saw it.
He spoke clearly—no effort, no projecting, just loud enough to reach everyone.
"Been a long wait."
He tilted his chin toward me.
"I'm coming for you personally."
