Chapter 109 More where that came from.
Chapter 109 More where that came from.
Monroe.
“Cologne?”
He sounded shocked.
“You always have it on you. And the scent is… incredible. I really like it.”
He buried his face in my neck.
At first, I thought he was trying to kiss there, but when I spun around to face him, even under the dimly lit halls, a pink pigment so faint graced his face.
I squinted at him.
“It’s pheromones,” he said, his voice low, a baritone that didn’t quite match his shy expression.
“Oh. Phero what?” I asked.
There was definitely a lot I had to learn about his world.
“Pheromones. You have one too.”
I paused, staring at him like he had just said something silly.
“I have one too,” I repeated, trying to understand what he had just said.
“Yeah. And it has a distinct scent of vanilla and a little mahogany.”
“Wow. Do I?” I began snuggling my shirt, but all I could perceive was my cheap perfume, and I promise it doesn’t smell like that.
“Is that really what everyone perceives when I walk past?”
“Well, only your soul-bound mate can.”
“Soul-bound? Mate?” Damn, I had a lot to learn.
Well, we had all the time in the world.
“Tell me more.”
“Well, you know… just like humans believe in things like marriage, true love and others, we wolves have a rather strong belief in the decision of the Moon Goddess. Like the fated mate, for example. Soul-bound mate and the likes.”
“Hmm. That’s… interesting.”
“I know it’s not. You might be bored if I continue.”
Well, I didn’t want to spend the entire night talking about lore and things of minute importance.
I wanted to spend the night with him.
And I did.
Holding him like he was the only one my hands knew.
Feeling him in a way that made it seem like I’d sniff his scent off him completely.
…
Days had passed, and every night I met with Zyle at the cathedral.
But as crazy as our make-out sessions were, they were beginning to take a toll on me.
I sneaked into the dorm, but Onyx already knew I was becoming nocturnal, so she paid me no mind, only constantly reminding me to be careful.
I stared at myself in the mirror. It was only a few hours before my practicals.
So much had changed ever since I came to Gradinton.
The eye bags underneath my eyes, for one.
I sighed and dressed up for class.
I still had a degree to chase.
“Flynn asked me how you were doing?”
“…”
“Yeah. He called one night and asked if you were with me, and I said yes. But you had already left.”
“Ever since I told him I had already told you about us, he relaxed as well. But now he is becoming more bold. You know, calling in the middle of the night and stuff like that.”
“…”
She looked at me, probably trying to know what I was thinking.
I shrugged.
“That’s you guys.”
“Well, he started becoming suspicious the day he video-called me and asked if you… I had told him you were sleeping, but he requested to see you, saying he didn’t usually see you around.”
“Of course, I pretended I had something to do and ended the call, but now, he’s really getting suspicious.”
Oh boy. I completely forgot about Flynn.
And to think Zyle was Flynn’s best friend. How would Flynn react if he found out I’d been doing a series of experiments on his best friend?
Just great.
I rubbed my forehead.
“I’ll… don’t worry… I’ll figure something out.”
“Be fast about it.”
“Yes, Mum.”
She chuckled and waved at me before going towards her side of the school.
I sighed and entered the faculty building.
Then someone nudged me.
“Sorry.”
What just happened?
I spun around to look at the person, but they had already disappeared.
How fast were they?
I walked into my class and waited for the professor.
Ding…
My phone buzzed.
I picked it up, my face immediately lighting up at the message.
“Big wolf,” I typed back, a smirk on my lips.
“Naughty much?”
I sent a laughing emoji.
“I didn’t get much sleep,” I whined.
“I’ve sent a delivery to your dorm.”
Fuck, my greedy ass was buzzing with excitement.
“Awwn. Thank you.”
“You’re in class… right?” he asked.
“Yeah. You know, boring stuff.”
“School ain’t boring.”
“Really?” I typed.
“Are you in your department?”
“It’s thesis year, what do you think?”
I looked at the lecturer and then at the door.
Fuck. I can’t be that crazy for love…
Right?
I slowly began to pack my stuff.
What was so new about the Portal Venus system anyway?
I waited for the lecturer to look away before sneaking out of the class.
Then I typed.
“Want a cup of coffee?”
“I’m heading to your department right now.”
I squealed internally.
I didn’t have to wait before I saw his Mustang pull over in front of me.
“You were already on your way before I sent the message?”
“Maybe… maybe not.”
I squinted at him and watched him walk out of the car.
I could never get used to how marvellous he looked every day.
As though he got hotter daily.
I hid a blush, which was impossible because my cheeks burned hot.
He extended a hand, bowing like medieval gentlemen usually did. I took it, and he led me to the passenger seat, opening the door for me.
Yeah, this was better than the Portal Venus system.
My heart brimmed with happiness all the while.
The attention.
The slow jazz playing.
The atmosphere.
I could never trade it for anything.
Something was wrong.
“Is this the way to the café?”
I knew the route well, but I wasn’t familiar with any good café there, so I let him take me on an adventure.
Then the car came to a stop in front of a brand house.
What the…
He quickly alighted and walked around to help me.
I accepted his hand, and he led me into the mall.
“What… what… are we doing here?”
“Getting you whatever you like… unless you have a specific place in mind.”
Zyle had made me realise I was a greedy bitch who wanted all I could have. I really had to work on that feature.
But the fun fact was that the clothes were so pretty I could barely take my eyes off them.
Damn…
I walked over to one of them and felt the texture.
Just… wow.
How could I really own one of these?
Zyle noticed my fear and drew closer to me.
“What’s the matter? Do you not like any of them?” His baritone was so smooth, I almost forgot where I was.
Almost.
How the fuck do I tell him I love it but can’t take it… it wasn’t for me?
“I love it…” was the little I could muster.
“Pack them,” he ordered.
Them?
It was only one I…
“Sir… please, which ones are you interested in?”
“All of them.”
My eyes snapped to him.
No… how…
“Pardon?” the attendant blurted.
“I don’t like repeating myself.”
“On it, sir.”
Zyle could read the fear in my eyes because he said,
“Don’t be afraid. There’s more where that came from.”
