Chapter 76
"Michael has helped me so much. What's wrong with taking him out for a meal? You can parade around with your ex-girlfriend, but I can't treat Michael to dinner?"
"I was there to talk business!"
William shot back angrily. This reminded him of the man in the private room.
"And what's going on between you and Lewis? Using Emily as a cover to mess around with men?"
The phrase "mess around with men" made Ava's eyes turn red. She knew this man was jealous, but even if he was jealous, how could he say such hurtful things?
She wasn't messing around with anyone. Her heart only had room for this jerk in front of her.
He had crushed her like this so many times. Ava felt extremely wronged.
"William, what gives you the right to say that about me?"
William looked at her aggrieved expression and realized he had gone too far.
"Don't see him anymore."
He dropped that line and returned to the driver's seat.
Sarah called. "William, are you coming back? Mr. Jones wants to talk to you."
William was still angry and wasn't giving anyone face.
"He can talk if he wants, or forget it. The Morgan Group doesn't need to beg anyone. There are plenty of artists dying to be our spokesperson."
He hung up right after saying that.
"Let's go home."
He had barely touched all that food on the table and was already full of anger.
In a bad mood, his driving was aggressive too. He sped all the way back to SilkGrove Estates.
Ava was also starving. When they got back, she went to the kitchen first to find some snacks. She had told Lily earlier not to cook today, so now they had to go hungry.
Lily saw the young couple ignoring each other and sighed quietly. They had just moved into the same room yesterday, and now they were fighting again.
For dinner, Lily made some noodles.
After getting back, William went straight into his study and didn't come out. Ava ate a bowl by herself and didn't go up to call him. After their fight, the two entered cold war mode.
That night, they lay in bed with their own thoughts, back to back, neither willing to give in.
Ava thought about all those women's items she had seen in his car, and her heart ached. Having another woman's things in her man's car - who wouldn't be upset?
She had barely ridden in his passenger seat a few times, and that seat had become Sarah's exclusive spot.
Even though he had said many times he didn't want a divorce, she still felt terrible.
They lay there stiffly until midnight before finally falling asleep.
When Ava woke up in the morning, she found herself sleeping in his arms again. She didn't think she was that pathetic. She propped herself up to look - he was still sleeping in his original position, and her side of the bed was half empty.
She really had rolled over to his side.
William rarely slept in like this. Usually at this time, he'd be working out.
"Now that you're awake, move your head. You've almost crushed my arm."
His tone was dismissive, and from his voice, it seemed he'd been awake for a while.
Ava moved back to her side, taking most of the blanket with her. Half of William's body was exposed to the air.
William glanced at her sideways and pulled the blanket back.
"You did something wrong and you're still throwing a tantrum?"
He now had to wonder if there were other men texting her that day when she wouldn't let him see her phone.
He leaned over, his index finger hooking her strap and easily pulling it down. The skin under her nightgown was dazzlingly white. He looked her over, his throat moving.
Ava felt a chill on her chest and reached to cover that private area.
"What are you covering? Can't I even look?"
He easily lifted her slender arms above her head, his burning gaze fixed on her, as if proving that as a legally married couple, he could do anything to her.
Men can be childish regardless of age. At this moment, he just wanted to do this, to tell her she couldn't guard against her own husband.
Ava's mind was still a bit foggy from just waking up, and he took advantage of her again. As if punishing her cold response, he would bite from time to time, then release.
When it came to tormenting her, he was the best.
Ava's mind became chaotic under his teasing, and she couldn't help but whimper.
"It hurts, don't bite."
He finally released her after biting her enough.
"Now delete all those guys' contact information."
It was almost an order.
Ava stared at him blankly. She had already blocked Lewis's Facebook the day she received his message. As for Michael, she considered him family, and he had helped her so much - doing that would be too absurd.
Seeing her not moving, William went straight for her phone on the pillow, pressed her thumb on it, and successfully unlocked it.
"Delete Michael!"
Ava licked her lips helplessly. "William, are you that insecure? You even need to guard against your own uncle?"
William raised an eyebrow.
"So what if I don't like him? I don't want him around you."
"You think Michael has designs on your wife?"
Ava found it unbelievable.
"Are you deleting it or not?"
William's restless hand slid down her smooth skin toward her lower body. His words were clearly a threat.
Ava immediately panicked. She had lied to him about having her period. If he found out, given his past behavior, he could tear her apart.
In desperation, she lifted her neck and bit the Adam's apple in front of her.
William froze like he'd been paralyzed.
"I'll delete it."
Ava hooked his wandering hand, then sucked on the spot she had just bitten, leaving a red mark.
She grabbed back her phone and deleted Michael's Facebook in front of him. She'd deal with today first - worst case, she could add him back later.
She knew the consequences of offending him in bed. That would be asking for death.
At this moment, she didn't dare provoke him. She could only appease him.
After Ava finished this operation, she came back to her senses and found William still propping himself up with one hand, his whole body pressing on her, fire burning in his eyes, each breath carrying restrained intensity.
"Ava, when is your period ending?"
Ava licked her lips, feeling a bit thirsty. He was like a furnace, abnormally hot, burning her.
"In... in a few days."
She was so nervous that she stuttered. She was worried about what his reaction would be if he knew she had a baby in her belly. He had said he didn't want children - would he drag her to get an abortion?
She wasn't mentally prepared yet and didn't know how to come clean with him about this.
William lowered his head and buried it in her neck again, kissing more roughly than before.
"Ava, kiss me, like you just did."
His voice was impossibly hoarse.
Ava's whole body went numb from his teasing.
"We can't... do it."
Her voice was like a mosquito's, her face so red it could drip blood.
"I know. Don't you still have hands? Or we could try something else?"
Ava's heartbeat skipped a beat, and words of refusal almost came out.
"I don't want to."
William looked resentful. "When I helped you, you just enjoyed it. Don't you know about mutual help?"
Now, Ava wasn't just red in the face - her whole body showed an abnormal color.
His words triggered some memories, and many inappropriate images quickly appeared in her mind.
