Chapter 107
Lewis froze in his tracks immediately.
"What did you just say?"
Emily lifted her chin, looking rather proud.
"She's William's first love. William and Ava will divorce sooner or later. How could that worthless woman deserve to be my sister-in-law? My sister-in-law should be someone refined like Sarah."
Lewis had just gotten a huge piece of gossip. He'd seen that woman approach William with suggestive words and had his suspicions, but he never imagined the Morgan family could be so shameless. Where did that leave Ava?
That woman was a homewrecker, and the key thing was that the Morgan siblings actually accepted her and treated her as a friend. This shocked Lewis so much that he couldn't think straight for a moment. He realized his values were completely incompatible with this family's - he had to call off this engagement with Emily!
This family's morals were completely messed up, and his so-called fiancée was spouting nonsense, showing zero class. She was directionally challenged and had issues with her brain, too. Now thinking about how a wonderful girl like Ava had to deal with such a bunch of weirdos, his heart ached.
"Since I've already helped you find your brother, go up yourself. I have things to do, I'm leaving."
He really couldn't bear to go up there knowing the truth and watch William dote on that angelic bitch. He couldn't accept it.
Lewis couldn't wait to escape.
Emily called after him a few times, but Lewis didn't look back. He walked straight out of the hospital building, got in his car, and drove toward the city center.
He was mulling over how to handle this without hurting the relationship between the two families. His old man was all about saving face - he'd been the one begging him to propose the marriage. If he now had to beg him to call it off, his dad definitely wouldn't agree.
This was such a headache. The more he thought about it, the more confused he got.
Emily climbed to the third floor, gasping for breath. She hadn't climbed stairs in years.
William and Sarah were sitting on a bench. William was leaning against the wall, and Sarah was leaning against him in his arms, maintaining one position. Sarah was wearing a neck brace, which looked pretty scary.
"William, Sarah, finally found you! Sarah, what happened to your neck? Is it broken?"
Hearing Emily's voice, Sarah cursed inwardly - what was she doing here at a time like this, showing up at exactly the wrong moment?
William looked like he'd seen his savior.
"Emily, come here. Help hold Sarah for a bit. Give me your card, I need to go pay the bill."
Emily licked her lips.
"William, you haven't paid yet? Well, this hospital is pretty decent, treating you first and collecting payment later."
Her brother had never worried about money in his life - today, he was getting a taste of it.
"Left my wallet in the car, lost my phone. Good thing you're here. Stop talking and come hold her."
William waved Emily over. Sarah, in his arms, let out a whimper.
"Ouch, it hurts..."
Emily quickly ran over and took hold of Sarah's head. William gradually shifted himself out, finally managing to free himself. His leg had gone completely numb.
He extracted himself, pulled a card from Emily's bag, and went downstairs to pay.
That left Sarah and Emily alone on the third floor.
"Sarah, is your heart okay? I was scared to death when I saw your car. I thought I'd never see you again. I searched the area for hours and couldn't find you guys - I was going crazy."
Sarah sighed. "Actually, it's not that serious. My heart condition is cured. I just didn't want him to go take care of Ava, so I deliberately pretended it was serious. Keep it secret, for me, okay?"
Emily breathed a sigh of relief.
"Got it, I understand. But when did your heart condition get cured?"
"I got a heart transplant abroad. Speaking of which, I'm connected to Ava by fate, too. Can't tell you the details - you can't keep your mouth shut, you might accidentally let it slip."
Emily's thought process was very simple, not full of twists and turns like Sarah's.
"As long as you're better, that's great. Won't William be thrilled? We should celebrate."
Sarah broke out in a cold sweat.
"Emily, keep your mouth shut tight. Since I came back to the country, I've had so many heart attacks in front of your brother. If you tell him I was already cured abroad, who do you think he'll punish first - you or me?"
Emily immediately slapped her own mouth. "Right, right, right, it's a secret, can't tell."
Then she praised Sarah again.
"Sarah, you're so smart. Why didn't I think of this great method? When I'm chasing guys in the future, will you be my brain trust?"
"Don't worry, what man can't I handle? I guarantee I'll have him kneeling at your feet."
William came upstairs after paying, just in time to hear Sarah's last sentence. A wave of disgust came over him. Emily saw him first.
"William, you paid the bill?"
William stuffed the card back in Emily's bag, then pulled out her phone, dialed a number, unlocked it with her face, and made a call.
"William, what are you doing with my phone?"
"Calling Ava."
He was extremely worried now. He didn't know how she was after he'd carried Sarah away. With his phone lost, he couldn't even make a call. He'd finally managed to borrow a nurse's phone to call once, but no one answered.
He gripped the phone nervously, waiting for a response. All he heard was the automated voice. He tried again without giving up - same result.
On the other end, Ava was lying in Olivia's break room. She had no physical problems - didn't even need medicine or hospitalization. She just hadn't recovered from the shock yet.
Olivia had temporarily arranged for her to rest in her own break room.
Seeing the call was from Emily, Ava didn't even want to deal with it. Right now, she was annoyed with all the Morgans. She put her phone on silent, placed it face down on the bed, and fell back into a deep sleep.
William couldn't get through and felt a wave of disappointment.
"When you caught up, did you see anyone in the car?"
Emily shook her head.
"Didn't the ambulance rescue anyone either?"
Emily shook her head again.
"William, stop worrying. Ava is fine, nothing will happen to her. Right now, you should be most concerned about the injured person in front of you - she just had another brush with death."
Sarah let out another weak whimper.
William called James again, asking where he was.
Before long, James arrived with an ambulance. They lifted Sarah onto a stretcher and into the vehicle. William got in the ambulance with her.
Emily, as if she'd completed some mission, got into James's car in a good mood.
The young nurses at the hospital watched Sarah being loaded into the ambulance, hearing she was being transferred to a higher-level hospital for treatment.
A few girls whispered among themselves.
"I don't know what magic this woman has. If the ambulance had come any later, she would've already recovered. Yet she's being transferred to a higher-level hospital and making such a big fuss calling an ambulance - isn't this a waste of medical resources?"
"Why do I feel like that guy looks a bit like the Morgan Group CEO?"
"No way, no way. Wherever the Morgan Group CEO goes, he's surrounded by people. Didn't you see he couldn't even pay the medical bill at first? He just has a pretty face."
"Maybe she's pretending to be pitiful to get her boyfriend's sympathy. After all, who'd want to let go of such a handsome man? If it were me, I'd use every trick in the book to keep him, make him devoted to me."
"But aside from her twisted neck, she wasn't even injured. When she came in, she said she was having a heart attack. When they pushed her into the emergency room, her heart was beating stronger than mine. She begged the doctor to keep it secret. I think the doctor was just too nice. This kind of lying woman is disgusting - such a manipulative bitch."
"Enough... Let's just work. This has nothing to do with us."
