Chapter 111

Chapter 111
I tried to hide my smirk. Pretty sure I failed. Exchanging looks with Caspian, I shrugged. No reason not to tell the mara what the imps had been up to. “They tried to make him think he was insane.”

“What?” She frowned, still sniffling a bit. Her eyes bounced between us in confusion.

“Yeah.” I raised my eyebrows playfully then told her the story as I know it. Lena’s eyes got huge as I described seeing their tornado in the reflection of the glass. Then she snorted.

“Yep. That sounds like imps.” She shook her head as she sipped on her smoothie. “At least they weren’t starting a sex cult this time.”

The maras snickered. I shook my head. Looking softly at Lena, I put my hand on her shoulder. “Are you sure you’re pregnant? Kerrigan is convinced I am too. Despite the test saying otherwise.”

Lena shook her head. “Kensington said I was. I just took them at their word. They are never wrong.”

Her and Caspian exchanged looks. I suspected it was about me. Again, I rubbed my rounded belly. “Not a demon baby!

Caspian wrapped his arms around me. “Darling, lets just wait and see what happens. You don’t understand imps.”

Lena nodded as she flicked her tongue in and out of her mouth. A look of disgust on her face. “This smoothie tastes metallic. What’s in it?”

“Um.” I thought back to when Kerrigan offered it to me. “Bananas, almond milk and spinach I believe.”

Caspian nodded. “That’s what Kerrigan said.”

Two black smoke swirling tornados blew into the room. When they stopped in front of us, they shimmered into the two imps. Kerrigan was now in a purple Mumu with the fake baby strapped to their back. Their red fire hair snakes were staring hard at my belly. I brought my arms up to cover myself. Kensington was in an orange maid-looking uniform with a white apron covering the skirt. Their baby was in a black baby Bjorn strapped to their front. Their blue fire hair snakes were focused on Lena.

Kensington went straight to the fridge. “That’s a common symptom of your condition.”

They quickly came back with a jar of pickles. Deftly opening it, they fished one of the spears out to hand to Lena. Without question, Lena started nibbling on it. She pulled back and looked at the pickle with respect. Nodded her head and finished off the spear. “Oh, that’s better. Thank you, Kensington.”

“Hmmm.” The imp pulled out a few more spears and placed them on a plate that I had no idea where it came from. They returned the jar to the fridge. Then they looked me over. “Any symptoms yet?”

I shook my head. “Not pregnant.”

Their head quickly swiveled to Kerrigan. “Didn’t you tell her?”

Kerrigan shrugged. “Too early for the test to show. Stubborn. Won’t listen.”

The imps exchanged knowing looks. I didn’t care for this. Ignoring them, I turned to Lena. “Have you told Bodhi yet?”

Lena paled. Then shook her head slowly as she nibbled her pickle spear. “How do I do that? Hey, I know we are demons but, we apparently conceived a baby?”

“That could work.” I pursed my lips, trying to keep from laughing. “I know it might be awkward, but you have to tell him. Unless you want to wait until the bun is done and just hand it to him?”

The imps snickered. Lena shot them an unhappy look. “Do you think we could have dinner here and you help me tell him?”

She was looking at me with pleading blue eyes. Maybe it was because she chose an appearance similar to mine, but I felt a familiar connection to her. I looked at Caspian. “Do we have plans for tonight?”

He shook his head with a gorgeous smile. Oh, I wanted to grab that beard to kiss him senseless. His grin turned wicked as he picked up on my mood. “Hmmm. You’ll have to wait until after dinner for those thoughts.”

I flushed. Lena giggled from her place by the island. The imps began to pull food out of the fridge. I assumed they were preparing dinner. Kerrigan looked at me and pointed at a seat next to Lena. “Sit. Your feet hurt.”

I frowned at the imp. How did they know my feet felt too big for my sneakers? Caspian took me by the shoulder and eased me onto a bar stool. Kerrigan handed me my bigfoot house shoes. My jaw slacked a little. Instead of asking how, I just shook my head and kicked off my shoes. Caspian slid my feet inside the soft shoes.

“Does this make me Cinderella?” I batted my eyes at the demon kneeling before me. He snickered.

“Hmmm. Only I don’t need a shoe to recognize you.” He stood up to whisper in my ear. “I can recognize any part of you.”

I flushed in both embarrassment and desire. He was so naughty. A throat being cleared drew my attention to the imp with the red hair snakes. They were holding out a smoothie concoction.

“It’ll help with your feet.” They looked so earnest. Like they hadn’t betrayed me by taking all my caffeine.

“Thank you, Kerrigan.” They smiled happily as I took a timid sip. I looked at them in surprise. It was tasty. “Wow. That’s good. What is it?”

“Strawberries, bananas, and dark chocolate blended into almond milk.” They pulled the pregnancy book out of their pocket. “All good for helping with swelling.”

They flipped it open on the counter. Kensington came over and they both read something while Lena and a drank our smoothies. I frowned as I realized Caspian didn’t have anything. He just smiled and kissed the top of my head. “I’m fine, love.”

I felt gooey at him calling me love. Tears actually pricked my eyes. What the hell? I wasn’t the crying type. Wiping the tears away, I frowned at the moisture on my hand.

“Do you think your feet are swollen or did they grow?” Kerrigan asked, barely looking up from the book that I was certain was going to bring me nothing but frustration.

“They didn’t feel swollen.” Caspian answered for me. From the island, the imps made a sound along the lines of a fire whooshing. “What?”

“Feet growing is a sign of pregnancy.” Kensington answered. Lena looked at me hopefully. She reached out to grab my hand.

“We could be pregnancy buddies!” She squealed.

“TACO BABY!” I reminded everyone in the room. A new pregnancy test was slid across to me. “I don’t need to go.”

I slid it back. Kerrigan nodded and it disappeared into their pocket. I just knew I was going to find it in the bathroom the next time I was in there. “So, do all imps have similar names?”
