Chapter 110
Chapter 110
Behind me, Caspian made a sputtering noise. I shot him a shush look as I pulled Lena tight against me. She buried her head in my shoulder, still sniffling. A pregnant Succubus. How crazy is that?
“Honey, are you sure?” I asked as I rubbed her back soothingly. I felt her nod before she lifted her head. “Forgive my ignorance, but how does a mara get pregnant?”
The room shimmered. When it cleared standing in front of us was a creature that strongly resembled Kerrigan, except their hairs snakes were more like blue flames instead of red. On their neck was a white tattoo of a kitten ready to pounce. Their features both feminine and masculine depending on the angle. They had obviously taken a page out of Kerrigan’s book. Pink scrubs with kittens clad their body while an adorable fake baby was swaddled to their front. I couldn’t stop staring. Hoped that wasn’t rude.
“She let an eggplant go spelunking during the meteor shower.” The new imp that was probably Kensington answered. Their black eyes raked over the succubus that had stepped away from me to look at them. All of their hair snakes were analyzing her too. “Your eyes are puffy.”
They urged her to sit on one of the bar stools. Then reached around her. They were suddenly holding a plate with cut up cucumbers. I looked at Caspian in disbelief. I know those weren’t on the bar. Surely, I would have noticed them!
My demon just shrugged. “Imps.”
Lena tried to knock the imp’s hands away as they tried to put the slices on her eyes. “You have to take care of yourself. For the baby.”
Sighing, Lena let them put the vegetables on her eyes. I slid my eyes to Kerrigan. Hopefully I wasn’t looking at my future. Clearing my throat softly, I asked who the father was. Was he human or another demon? Could two demons reproduce? I needed more information. Maybe there was book about what to expect when you bond with a demon.
Lena smiled from her position at the bar. She was facing us with her eyes closed and head tilted slightly back to keep the slices in place. “If it was the meteor show, then Bodhi.”
“You told him you loved him while he was plowing you.” Kensington inserted into the conversation. They were currently looking through the cabinets. I felt slightly violated as they dug around my stuff without a care. They frowned as they had now reached my hilarious kitchen gadget cabinet. They pulled out a red device that looked like it had two white hands pushing down on nothing. As they tried to figure out what it was, they told Lena that Bodhi had returned the sentiment, resulting in the demon she was now carrying. “What is this?”
They thrust the device at me. I chuckled. “It’s a microwaveable s’mores maker. The hands holds it in place.”
They frowned. I saw their eyes slid towards the trash. “Mine.”
Grunting in displeasure, they retuned it to the cabinet. “Not like you need it.”
Looking Lena over once more, they spun into a smoky tornado and blew out into the hallway. I looked at the demons in surprise. Running my hands over my rounded belly I asked for clarification. “Was I just body shamed?”
They both busted up laughing at me. Caspian kissed my temple. “No, my Love. They meant you won’t be making anything anymore. If you want s’mores, Kerrigan will procure you some straight from the fire.”
“Oh.” I muttered a little subdued. This was getting to be too much. I just hoped Kerrigan got off this pregnancy thing soon and brought back the coffee maker. I turned to Lena. “So, did you take a pregnancy test yet? Wait, can an over the counter test determine a demon pregnancy?”
The maras exchanged looks. Neither would make eye contact with me. “What?”
“I’ve never heard of a pregnant mara.” Caspian told me, his serious brown eyes left my face to look at the other demon in the room. “Have you?”
Lena shook her head, knocking the cucumbers off her eyes. She caught them and put them on the counter behind her. “I mean, I assume those that have been bonded and became human can be. But not any that are still mara.”
“Are you sure you are still mara?” Crazy thought I know. “What if you bonded to Bodhi and he to you?”
Two pairs of demon eyes swiveled to me. Both above slacked jaws. Obviously, they hadn’t thought of that. Lena frowned as she looked between us. “I can still pop in and out, choose my appearance. Clearly, not human. Which the bonded become.”
“How do you know?” I raised an eyebrow. “Did the imps actually find out any hard information on what it meant to be bonded? A book perhaps that explains the process?’”
Nobody spoke for a moment. Caspian broke the silence, squinting in thought. “Why are they so obsessed with the meteor show?”
“Because the meteors originate in your realm?” I asked uncertainly. He’d been there for the same conversation with the imp I had been. “I think we need to force the imps to tell us what all they learned. Obviously, they were doing more than just torturing my ex while they were missing.”
“What did they do to your ex?” Lena exclaimed.
