Chapter 45 Proof of Cheating
Chapter 45 Proof of Cheating
Susan looked away, her eyes shifty.
"I just feel sorry for Mrs. Bianca Talbot. She's devoted so many years to the Talbot family. She shouldn't be denied even this small thing."
Then she turned to Seraphina again, her eyes pleading. "Seraphina, please, just give her the medicine!"
"I promise I'll disappear from your life completely. I'll go so far away you'll never find me again. Would that work?"
"Susan, what are you talking about? Get up first!"
Michael's brows knitted sharply. He found the whole scene embarrassing and tried to pull her to her feet.
But Susan stubbornly shook him off, a look of quiet relief spreading across her face.
"Michael, I'm willing to do anything for Mrs. Bianca Talbot. Anything at all!"
Those words won her even more sympathy from the onlookers.
"Poor thing. How can they treat her like this?"
"That woman won't even respond? It's just medicine. What kind of medicine is so precious she can't spare any?"
"Enough!"
As the crowd buzzed with chatter, Wendy hit her limit. She slammed her hand on the table and shot to her feet.
Her furious voice cut through the entire room.
She turned, her gaze sharp as a hawk's, and fixed it on the people who had been speaking up for Susan.
"I can't stand this anymore. What do any of you actually know? You're all just talking nonsense. That woman is a mistress. Did you see the man sitting next to her? They walked in here arm in arm!"
"He is my friend's husband. My friend is on the verge of divorcing him. So why should she hand over medicine to a former mother-in-law who used to hit her? If anyone here is so morally superior that they can sit there stone-faced while a mistress pulls this kind of stunt, step forward right now and let me see you!"
Her outburst silenced the entire room, including Susan on the floor, whose eyes flickered with a flash of panic.
Michael's brows pulled together, and he said coldly, "Miss Harrison, say one more word and see what happens."
Wendy just laughed.
Did he really think she was scared?
"What's the matter? Caught red-handed and now you're lashing out? Then tell me — what does it mean that the two of you walked in here arm in arm? You claim you're looking after her because she's terminally ill. Day and night, right? Looks like the 'looking after' moved into the bedroom a long time ago!"
"Better make the most of it while you still can — she's dying, after all!"
Wendy smiled as she spoke, each word a sharp blade cutting straight into the two of them.
Once she was fired up, she never held back.
Michael's face slowly turned ashen, and the people around them began to sense something was off. No one dared to speak up anymore.
But the looks they gave Susan were now full of contempt.
"So she's a mistress. No wonder that woman wanted nothing to do with her. She deserves a slap in the face, honestly."
"The mistress has the nerve to pull this, and that woman just sits there calmly. Now that's class."
"Disgusting. I can't believe I was actually taking her side. Can they please throw these people out? They're ruining the whole vibe."
Every person who had defended Susan moments ago was now turning on her. Her eyes went red instantly. She stumbled to her feet, her face filled with despair.
"Fine. It's all my fault. Every bit of it. I only wanted to get some medicine for Mrs. Bianca Talbot. What exactly did I do wrong? All I know is I am not a mistress!"
"I'm sorry, Seraphina. I'm sorry for the trouble. I'll leave now. I'll go far away where you never have to see me again, and then you won't be bothered anymore..."
With that, she staggered toward the exit and accidentally walked straight into the door, nearly falling. Michael's eyes snapped wide and he rushed out after her.
Outside, the two of them stood at the edge of the road, caught in a back-and-forth. Susan kept trying to leave while Michael held onto her, brow furrowed, saying something that made her shoulders tremble slightly. It was quite a picture.
Seraphina suddenly stood up and walked toward them. Wendy's heart jumped and she quickly grabbed her arm.
"What are you doing? Just let them leave. Are you really going to go out there and get involved?"
Seraphina gave a quiet smile, said nothing, and pulled out her phone to start recording.
It didn't take long before they watched Susan throw herself into Michael's arms, sobbing. Michael looked at her with unmistakable tenderness and gently stroked her hair.
Then, apparently worried she was too exhausted to walk, he swept her up in his arms and carried her away.
When the recording was done, Seraphina pocketed her phone and walked back to her seat.
"Evidence of cheating this clear — I can't let that go to waste. It would be a shame not to have it on record."
Ever since she had decided to divorce Michael and realized the straightforward route wasn't going to work, Seraphina had known she needed to start gathering evidence — proof of serious wrongdoing on Michael's part during the marriage.
And infidelity was the most obvious place to start.
Wendy's eyes lit up. She gave Seraphina a thumbs-up.
"That was smart!"
Seraphina smiled lightly. "It'll do."
---
Wendy chewed on her straw, then asked hesitantly, "But Seraphina... can you really let go? After all these years?"
As her closest friend, Wendy knew better than anyone how deeply Seraphina had loved both Michael and Janna.
And neither of them had deserved it.
If Seraphina wanted to leave, Wendy was completely behind her.
But she needed this to be a decision Seraphina had truly thought through — not a reaction made in the heat of the moment, only to end in regret and the same cycle all over again.
Seraphina raised an eyebrow. Her expression was calm and certain. She nodded firmly.
"A rotten apple doesn't just rot on the surface. The inside goes bad long before you can see it. This relationship is the same way."
"So there's nothing to hesitate about. I'm getting a divorce."
---
The next few days passed quietly.
One afternoon, Wendy happened to be free, and Alicia didn't have school, so the three of them went out together.
Outside a boutique, Wendy and Alicia headed to the restroom while Seraphina waited at the entrance.
After a while, feeling a little bored, she wandered inside and started browsing. She picked up a plush toy and was about to take a photo when a sharp, mocking voice hit her from behind.
"I spotted you from a mile away and hoped I was wrong. Of all the people to run into. What terrible luck."
Seraphina turned around. It was Leila.
She was wearing a leather jacket, dressed in her usual androgynous style, looking Seraphina up and down with open disdain. Her gaze landed on the Barbie doll sitting by Seraphina's feet, and a cold smirk crossed her face.
"Buying that for Janna? You women and your little toys. So boring."
Seraphina let out a quiet, humorless laugh and raised an eyebrow.
"You're a woman too, Miss Valois."
Leila's expression stiffened. She gritted her teeth and shot back,
"You don't know anything. I'm nothing like you. And I would never do what you did — stealing someone else's love. You shameless little tramp."
