VENGEFUL.
CHAPTER 61: VENGEFUL.
ALEENA'S POV.
It still felt like a dream to me that I was challenged by the Boulder, and Caspian accepted the challenge in my stead.
"Caspian, don't do this. What if something happens to you? It's a fight to the death," I said holding him by the hand.
"The more reason you can't be the one out there. Nothing's going to happen. Trust me. I've got this," he replied with confidence. Well, I wasn't still satisfied with that show of confidence.
Caspian then took off the jacket he wore and turned to me.
"Hold on to this for me, will you?"
I quietly received it as I looked at him, sulking. Well, I wasn't angry at him. My anger was at someone else; Xander.
Caspian smiled at me and began walking down from where we were. Cormac stood in his way, interrupting him.
"You've got this," Cormac said placing his hand on his shoulder. He nodded at Cormac affirmatively and continued down until he was in the arena.
"He's going to be fine, Aleena. Caspian is stronger than you think," Cormac said to me telepathically. I looked at him and sighed. No one was able to hear our communication.
It was nice to see Cormac's gesture of support, despite their differences. It truly was nice.
As Caspian walked toward the center of the arena where the Boulder stood, there was chattering amongst the crowd. Some laughed softly believing he didn't stand a chance against the Boulder, most especially under the conditions he had set.
The one officiating the fights stood between the Boulder and Caspian. He also had a look of distress on his face.
"This is a fight to the death, with no restrictions whatsoever," he said to the both of them.
Caspian nodded in acknowledgment, while the Boulder smiled wickedly.
"May the strongest emerge victorious," the officiator declared and walked away from the arena.
The Boulder began pacing to his left as he observed Caspian like a predator, smiling. He had both his swords firmly in his hands. Caspian just watched him observingly, seemingly not perturbed by the fight.
"How could he be so confident in the face of certain death?" I said to myself, worrying.
I was amazed to see that Amelia looked a bit distressed as well. But I just shrugged it off, assuming she was just concerned since he was her guest.
The Boulder swung his swords and struck a fighting pose. As he smiled, his fangs were revealed. With that, I knew this was going to be a bloody fight. But I truly hoped it wasn't going to be Caspian's.
He rushed at Caspian with his vampiric speed. The only thing we all saw was Caspian turning, with his hand on his face, while the Boulder was already behind him. I gasped as my heart skipped, gripped by fear.
I looked at them and saw that he was smiling at that move. I'm quite sure he felt his warrior was going to emerge victorious.
Amelia clenched her fists as she watched. As much as she tried to hide how stricken with anxiety she was, I could see it. Well, mine was visible to everyone.
The Boulder made three quick attacks cutting Caspian in various parts of his body. With the third, he fell to his knees, wincing in pain.
"Come on, Caspian. Come on. You can do this," I said, trying to stay positive. But my heart betrayed me as it raced even more this time.
Meanwhile, the crowd went wild seeing how the Boulder seemed to have the upper hand.
I noticed how Caspian remained on his knees. He then breathed in and out softly, closing his eyes. The Boulder launched another speedy attack at him again. Caspian suddenly sprung to his feet and grabbed him by the neck, shocking everyone.
I saw that he began transforming as he had the Boulder in his tight grip, lifting him to the ground. The Boulder struggled to break free but couldn't, so he tried using his sword. But before he could, Caspian knocked him with his other hand and he flew over thirty feet across and made impact against the wall of the arena.
The people were further shocked, especially Xander and the Boulder himself.
Caspian raged as he transformed fully into an eight-foot-tall beast, puffing. His shirt was ripped off, just part of the pants he wore was still on, covering the groin region. There was a rage in his eyes that seemed personal.
The Boulder angrily got to his feet, hissing as he transformed as well and rushed at Caspian. The fight was fierce, but the Boulder couldn't beat Caspian as he matched his speed and strength. But much more than that was a zeal and anger I had never seen him consumed by.
It seemed as though how was out for vengeance. But was it just for me?
Caspian gave the Boulder a beating I bet he wasn't expecting. Xander, at that point, was no longer looking as pleased as he had previously. Oh, it gave me such delight.
Caspian stood over the Boulder who had been beaten so badly. He began crawling to his sword, but Caspian stepped on his leg, crushing it. He screamed out in pain. Then Caspian grabbed him by the neck from behind, lifting him.
He walked towards where the nobles sat and faced Xander. He then bit into the Boulder's neck, ripping a part of it off. The crowd gasped in surprise. He then released him, falling to the ground. Then Caspian transformed back into his human form.
The Boulder began convulsing as fell to the ground. Dark veins appeared all over him, beginning from his neck where the bite was. I was shocked to see that. I had only read about the Lycans's venomous bites against vampires, but I had never seen it firsthand.
Caspian glared at Xander as he struggled until he finally died. There was no form of remorse in his eyes as all that went on.
The crowd stood to their feet and applauded Caspian for such a feat. Amelia also got on her feet, clapping with great delight. The nobles all stood up and clapped. Xander fumed but had no choice but to stand as well, but he didn't clap.
"It seems like we have a new and unexpected champion!" the officiator announced.
As the crowd celebrated, all of a sudden, there was a loud thud right in front of where we sat as we saw the bodies of the two soldiers above landing on the ground. Such was the experience all around the arena. The soldiers fell to the ground with their throats slit.
The people gasped in shock as the bodies landed all around.
"What's going on?" Amelia asked, looking around.
The metal gates that the warriors followed suddenly blasted open, flying meters away. The blast caused dust to arise.
As the dust settled we all saw a group of people arrayed in black with a white mask.
Seeing that, I knew there was trouble. I wondered who they were.
