Chapter 20 Unable to Get Out of Bed
Emily walked up to the rear door of the car and tapped on the window.
Soon, the window rolled down.
A handsome face appeared before her eyes, it was indeed Ethan.
"Mr. Thomas, what are you doing here?" Emily asked curiously.
Ethan silently gazed into her innocent eyes and lightly said, "You are visiting the Parker family today. This is the Parker residence."
His words were succinct, but Emily understood.
He had come here to find her.
Immediately, Emily replied, "Mr. Thomas, there's no need to trouble yourself. I've sorted things out."
Ethan raised an eyebrow, feeling a hint of curiosity and doubt about her actions, "How did you handle it? Didn't the Parker family cause you any trouble?"
Emily didn't mince words. She opened the car door and sat inside, briefly explaining what had just happened.
Of course, she omitted the most important point which was her mother’s medical book.
"So, do you plan to do something else at the press conference?" Ethan didn't make his words too explicit.
Knowing he was clever, Emily simply nodded.
"Do you need my help?" he asked solemnly.
Emily was momentarily stunned, looking at him with some surprise.
Ethan felt uncomfortable under her gaze and cleared his throat, "I'm just fulfilling a promise."
Emily furrowed her brows slightly and thought, ‘What promise is he talking about?’
After thinking it over, she suddenly remembered that Ethan had promised to protect her.
She immediately replied, "No need, Mr. Thomas. This is just a small matter, no need to trouble your."
Ethan's brow furrowed.
He thought, ‘This woman actually refers to a public press conference of a listed company as a small matter? She is really audacious. If there is any slip-up, she could end up back in prison on charges of defamation.’
After she said that, Emily noticed that Ethan didn't speak to her again.
The atmosphere inside the car became heavy and strange.
Finally, Byron's voice broke the silence. "Mr. Thomas, where shall we go now? Back to the company or should I take Mrs. Thomas home?"
"To Lakeside View," Ethan instructed.
Byron immediately nodded, "Yes, Mr. Thomas."
Meanwhile, Emily widened her eyes in surprise.
Lakeside View was an elegant and quiet restaurant known for its expensive dining and strict reservation policy.
She thought, ‘Is Ethan planning to have lunch with me?’
She rubbed her stomach and realized she was indeed a bit hungry.
This small action of hers didn't escape Ethan's notice. He smiled faintly and said, "After lunch, I'll have you escorted back."
"Alright, thank you, Mr. Thomas," Emily replied with a beaming smile.
Her eyes curved like two moons, making people feel good just looking at her.
Since the experience at the Thomas mansion yesterday, Ethan no longer rejected Emily.
"Oh, by the way," his clear and slightly cold voice sounded, "Bob's injuries aren't severe. After being taken to the hospital, he was discharged, but I heard he still can't get out of bed."
Emily couldn't help but laugh.
After all, she had done it herself, and she naturally anticipated the consequences for Bob.
However, hearing this news from Ethan made her feel quite pleased, almost wanting to laugh.
"Emily, how did you manage to do it?" Ethan stared straight at her.
"Mr. Thomas, that's a secret," Emily made a hushing gesture.
Seeing she wasn't going to say, Ethan sneered, "You're a medical student, familiar with acupuncture points, so naturally you found a way in that regard."
Emily pursed her lips.
She thought, ‘Since he has already figured it out, why bother asking me again? Boring!’
Emily couldn't be bothered to pay him any more attention.
Half an hour later, the car stopped.
She looked out the window. Here were pavilions and terraces, with a murmuring stream. It was the top-notch restaurant, Lakeside View.
Only the wealthy could afford to dine there.
Of course, she was also one of the VIPs of this restaurant.
Unexpectedly, Ethan also liked this place.
Emily pretended to look like a country bumpkin, excitedly asking, "Mr. Thomas, is this Lakeside View? I've heard of it. Even the cheapest vegetables here start at over 200 dollars. They're all organic vegetables grown in their own yard."
"Yes," Ethan replied coldly.
Emily secretly rolled her eyes.
She thought, ‘Cut the act. I am just pretending.’
She pushed Ethan into the hall, where two waitresses greeted them with great courtesy and led them towards a private room.
Clearly, Ethan was a regular here and had a fixed private room.
Once they were seated, the waitress handed them the menu. It was a traditional menu, made of fancy material, giving the impression of being transported back to ancient times.
The menu was rich and diverse, mainly featuring traditional cuisine, and each dish was exorbitantly priced.
"Mr. Thomas, this is too expensive! I'm truly amazed!" Emily pretended to look astonished.
Ethan's expression remained as indifferent as ever. "Order whatever you like. My treat."
"Great, Mr. Thomas! Then I won't hold back," Emily exclaimed, clapping her hands.
The two waitresses exchanged glances, their eyes subtly shifting towards Emily's scar.
However, they were both trained rigorously and didn't allow their expressions to change, maintaining professional smiles.
Emily pretended to look at the menu for a while, then glanced aside and deliberately said, "Mr. Thomas, I can't decide. Everything looks delicious. Why don't you choose? I don't have any dietary restrictions."
She didn't want to reveal her preferences.
Ethan didn't suspect anything and casually ordered a few dishes. The waitress took the menu and left.
Emily knew that the service at Lakeside View was slow, so she stood up and said, "Mr. Thomas, I'll go to the restroom."
Ethan nodded slightly.
Without asking anyone else, Emily walked straight to the restroom, familiar with the way.
After she entered one of the stalls, the two waitresses who had submitted the menu also sneaked into the restroom.
Restrooms were usually empty, and they usually came here to gossip. They spoke in hushed tones. "Why did Ethan bring such an ugly woman to dinner? Could she be his new girlfriend?"
The other one answered, "Who knows, but how could Ethan be interested in a woman with such a big scar on her face?"
The first waitress said, "Yeah, she's so vulgar-looking, with no grace at all. She even thinks our food is expensive. Clearly, she's never seen the world."
The other said, "Maybe she's Ethan's nursemaid! After all, he's disabled and needs care. No matter how you look at her, she doesn't seem like Ethan's girlfriend."
The first one said, "You're right. She must be Ethan's caretaker. He's really kind-hearted, bringing his caretaker to dinner. This doesn't fit the rumors about the ruthless and cold-blooded Mr. Thomas."

Just as they were getting excited in their discussion, a stall door opened.
Emily swaggered out.
