Chapter 60 Chapter 60
Misty
I kept quiet, and curled into Beck until we pulled up to Valentina’s store and slipped out the backseat and into the corridor of the stairs that led to the apartments.
“Come on, we need to get you out of those wet clothes before you get sick,” Beck insisted, guiding me by the small of my back up the stairs. He was still taking care of me, still here. He wasn’t a one night stand like Negan had been, that I could slip away from, and pretend it meant nothing. Did it mean something to him? I inwardly scoffed at myself. No, he was just like me. A broken person, looking for comfort. We had been caught up in the moment, nothing else. He may care about me but his heart, his entire soul belonged to a dead woman.
When we got to the apartment he dragged me into the bathroom and turned on the water; scalding like I liked it and pulled out a few towels. He helped me out of my clothes and ordered me into the shower. Once I was in he left me, shutting the door behind him and the world suddenly felt too big, too lonely. The day's events came crashing down and I let my legs rest by just sitting under the hot spray. It was all a blur. I almost died today, it was just sinking in. He had come for me when he should have turned tail and gone straight for Cricket. Only time would tell now if I had managed to back out of the server and mask myself quick enough with all of my mistakes. I suddenly felt very weary as the water’s temperature began to cool. I reached up and turned it off. The steam lingered in the room and I wiped the mirror as I stood there in my towel, staring back at my numb expression.
The sound of murmured voices coming from the living room suddenly registered to my brain. Valentina, she must have brought Cricket down. I blocked the sound out mentally. I was not able to take any more input at the moment. I looked back at myself. What the actual fuck was I doing? I was wrapped up in the war of 2 very dangerous gangs and aan extreamly deadly and resourceful wolf shifter Alpha CEO. I was just a human woman who had bitten off more then she could chew.
I had told Beck I would leave if necessary. Now, it was just a matter of time. It was time to work on an exit plan. I let out a sigh, stepping into the hallway in just a towel. Cricket ran at me and wrapped her arms around me and inhaled the scent of her deeply. She’d know, I had done something reckless because Adelaide didn’t just matter to me. To Cricket she was the sun, the moon and the stars in the sky. Furthermore, my daughter deserved to grow up safe and secure, not bullied, not in fear of being stolen away by her father’s relatives. With men like Creedon and Tanner running things, how many others would suffer at their hands if nobody did anything? I mouthed a thank you to Valentina, but didn’t say another word. With one arm around Cricket I led her into my bedroom. I needed to be near her, to know she was safe and to comprehend that I was in fact still here to fight another day. Maybe I was crazy, but someone had to stop the madness before many more lives could be destroyed. In that moment I made up my mind. They would all go down for a better world for Adelaide and Cricket. One woman had to be able to make a difference. It didn’t hurt I had a little help from a very dominate bear shifter, who was absolutely by my side. Who knows? I might just make it out of this mess alive with him beside me.
