5 days were needed for the whole kingdom to know: Asra was no longer the emperor’s concubine and what happened at the ball was just a way to make this clear to everyone.

With this in mind, it was not difficult for them to accept after seeing the duchess’s carriage leaving the emerald palace.

"I’m glad you accepted my proposal," Samael said with his legs crossed as he stared at both of us.

I sighed.

"It was you or the street and as much as I like the ghetto... I don’t intend to take Elaine there" I muttered with my arms crossed over her chest.

"Oh, heavens, how fierce" he mocked and his eyes sparkled in the darkness - how can you handle her, saint?

Elaine smiled at me.

"Honey, why don’t you try to be friendlier?"

"Are you really asking this of me?" The fallen seemed to have fun with that conversation and situation "it was the duchess who despised me even after I offered to find a home for you; you know... I gave a gift, a beautiful gift and she still treats me like a monster!"

He seemed outraged and somehow... it reminded me of Asmodeus - even if in the case of Samael it was a bit of acting.

"You want to slice the person I love, why should I be" "friendly" with you?" Sibilei and Samael nodded.

"I never said I was wrong, my dear, but if it’s any consolation..." his eyes sparkled with that dark and perverse hue - and even without knowing what he would say, I knew he would not console me even a little -, but still he continued in a near purr "I also want to slice you up, dismember your body and study your heart and core; you know... I’ve seen a lot about phoenix, but never had a chance to study one."

An almost suffocating murderous aura seemed to take over the carriage and I felt my body shake.

"No. Really. Think. In. Play. In it." Elaine said and her voice was cold as death, even her beautiful blue eyes seemed empty as she stared at Samael, but the fallen one just laughed throwing himself back.

"What fear..." he mocked "all right, all right... I’ll stay away from his precious phoenix, dear" the rosy lips of the ancient angel arched and he continued to hum "but... I think I’m happy. For once, Callisto did a good thing by kicking you out."

I raised one of his eyebrows and he shrugged.

"What? It’s the truth, you guys are fun" Samael’s smile seemed too real for me to think of it as some kind of silly thing.

Grunhi.

That was a bad sign, right?

'I hope you’ve understood that we’re not some kind of new toy for you to spend your time and have fun with," Elaine said with her arms crossed and an eyebrow raised.

I couldn’t help laughing.

Since when did she talk like that? No, better... since when my beautiful and sweet Elaine had become so... adult? So...

My face got hot.

'I’m thinking too much' I piggybacked and Elaine stared at me.

"Are you all right?"

She seemed worried as she looked at me and I nodded.

"Hummm..." Samael muttered as he stared at me with a smile from someone who had understood EXACTLY what was happening.

I shot him with my eyes and the fallen one laughed low as he turned his face to the side.

"I’m fine" I said deflecting while covering my mouth with one hand "are we close?"

"Actually..." he opened the door with a huge smile while the carriage was still moving "come on? We’re already home." I raised one of my eyebrows.

"What is it?"

Samael laughed and without waiting or answering, he threw himself out.

Elaine sighed.

"This idiot doesn’t change" she said as she stood up and I stared at her.

"Will you... jump?"

"Yes" she said and smiled at me, smiled as she held out one hand to me - Samael’s territory is... different" sighed "we need to jump in to enter."

"What is it?"

I faced her with obvious doubt on my face, since I did not remember to read something about it.

She smiled.

"Trust me" he asked as he approached the open door and I grunted.

How the hell could I refuse when she stared at me with those immense blue eyes that shone like two beautiful diamonds and her lips arched so lovingly? Unfair. It was unfair. Elaine was completely unfair and I couldn’t do anything to "deal better" with her or... anything that involved her.

'Love is unfair' I realized while holding her hand and as a single being, we both threw ourselves from the carriage, but to my surprise, we did not hit the ground face. We fall and fall.

Elaine smiled as her hair got messy in the air. It was like watching a child go to his favorite park again.

I sighed as I felt the air against my skin as the hair flew around my face and Samael’s laugh rang in my ears. Had Elaine smiled like that when she was in the emerald palace? Had she at least... seemed so happy when she was near Callisto?

The answer was so obvious that it made my heart ache.

I would surely beat the cursed God who had condemned my beautiful star to be near that imbecile and would surely beat Calisto if he tried to approach her again.

"We arrived!" Samael’s voice screamed and I could see him. A dot in the middle of a large courtyard; Elaine shook my hand and her face approached mine.

"Walk" she said "one foot after another."

She started to "walk" in the air and I followed her, seconds later we were no longer falling, we were landing peacefully after we stopped falling into free fall.

"Very good" Samael said clapping "when will you tell me how you know about these things, saint?" He asked with bright eyes and Elaine snorted.

"Did I promise to tell you something, priest?"

He laughed very low.

"There, there..." he put both hands behind his body and tilted his head towards a mansion. A mansion that seemed surrounded by flowers "your luck, dear... is that I am very nice" he mocked "so come, I will show you the new home, feel free to make any change you want."

Even if he said that, I had the faint impression that neither I nor Elaine would want to change something in that place.
