"What do you think?" I asked and Keir seemed to change the weight of the body from one foot to the other as he thought.
"Do we... have other options?" she asked as if she was about to laugh, but it was obvious she didn’t see the fun in that.
"We always have other options" I said shrugging and the redhead sighed.
"We’re not gonna live with mortals, we both know how it’s gonna end. Persecution and... there’s that thing that’s gonna keep coming after you. It would be stupidity, an oversized stupidity and I don’t intend to act like that" she said as both crimson-fingered hands covered her face "why did Calisto have to be such an asshole? You know... sometimes I’d like to think of him as a prince charming" she grumbled and I knew it was more for herself than for me "but no, that idiot is more for cursed frog."
A sniggering laugh escaped through my lips. A laugh I couldn’t help because after reading all those death tales - I agreed in parts. Callisto was like a cursed prince who hoped that a beautiful woman would save him from his torments; it was not that he loved anything, but that he wished to come out of that darkness.
I had been that woman.
Asra had been this woman.
But in the end, only Loren’s mother could really do something about the emperor.
"So?" Carefully, I asked and sat next to him on the huge burgundy sofa that was in his office.
"Great place to..." Keir grumbled "Samael is a complete lunatic, but even in the written work he seemed to respect the agreements, if you made one with him, then I suppose he intends to comply."
"Does that mean we should pack our bags?"
"I think so" she muttered "and that we should both start to entertain the idea of with a completely fallen maniac in exchange for help."
"My blood will make the cure possible" I said looking at my wrist "I can sell this in exchange for another deal."
The grenade eyes shot me with irritation.
"Repeat."
Smile.
"Calm down... I will not be reckless, I just intend to suggest to him a quick way to take care of the child, at least... Loren would suffer less and we could have training" I said stretching and stretching on the couch.
"Training?"
I settled.
"At some point in the 14th incarnation forward, I found that I could do things beyond healing and blessing; but I never had a chance to train or improve, after all... I couldn’t act as I wanted and my body was always following the same script" I muttered "but now... I can ask for Samael’s help, it would be a source of study for him and still guarantee a new form of protection."
"Protection from Miguel?"
I froze.
Hearing the name of that thing made me sick, but still, I nodded.
"Michael, Callisto or any other threat."
"There are no threats" Keir murmured "things start to go wrong when Miguel invades and Calisto understands that he can’t lose you" she began quoting as if mentally analyzing every scene in our story "when he understands that, he becomes obsessed with protecting you and decides that nothing can affect you, including his existence."
I raised an eyebrow.
"What is it?"
Keir blinked.
"You... didn’t know?"
"What do you mean you didn’t know? Calisto doesn’t affect me at all..."
The redhead forced a smile as she seemed to wonder whether or not to tell me, but finally sighed deeply and stared at me.
"You wanted... don’t you remember your nightmares?"
I shuddered.
"What do you got?"
"The presence of Callisto, she makes his mind unstable and makes his body sick. You are opposites and so negatively affect each other" those words hit me like a punch in the stomach.
"Then..."
"Yes" she whispered "the nightmares, the nights she slept and still did not seem rested, the discomfort when she went to eat... as well as the headaches of Calisto, everything was a consequence of being close to each other."
I snitched.
So all that time where I thought everything would be okay, where I wished I was close to him and where he kept me by his side - even then... we were toxic to each other.
'How much irony' I thought and my lips arched in a satirical smile.
"Sometimes I feel like the universe likes to mock me" I muttered and the redhead’s hand gently touched my back.
"I know how it feels... sometimes the universe seems crazy, sadistic and completely clueless" she said between teeth as if looking for something in the air "but now..."
"Now it doesn’t even matter" I completed for her and my eyes found the grenade eyes that belonged to Asra, the face that belonged to Asra and the smile that appeared only on Keir’s lips "nothing but you matter to me..."
She smiled, her fingertips brushing against my face.
"I’m glad to hear that, but promise me you won’t be like Calisto and you won’t kill yourself for me. I don’t really consider suicide as something attractive" she mocked and even in her mockery I could see the truth tip.
Smile.
I could just reassure Keir, but... that was my chance to play, wasn’t it? So I stared.
"Hummm..." I leaned my face in his hand "do I look like the kind of suicidal person to you? Or... do I look like Calisto?"
She blinked, surprised at that question and her lips opened to close again.
"I..." I laughed and she stared at me joining one more "mean" grumbled "don’t play with the feelings of others..."
"Do I really look suicidal to you?" I asked with a smile and she sighed as she flicked me on the forehead.
"A little" he said as he crossed his arms over his chest.
I blew it.
"Then why are you coming to live with me in a mansion near Samael?" My voice was now like that of a spoiled child who had been contradicted, but Keir just laughed low and replied.
"Because I obviously have serious mental problems... and because I love you."
My face has blushed.
Keir... it was unfair.
