Chapter 39
The door creaking was loud and the sound reverberated in. the entire restroom.
The sound was more than enough to send shivers down her spine as her body visibly shuddered.
Megan’s hands turned white as she gripped the sink in front of her tightly as if her very life depended on it.
She did not dare turn around. All she did was to stare at the mirror.
The sound of the door creaking did not stop as little by little, the door opened up.
DON’T LOOK
DON’T LOOK
DON’T LOOK
Her brain screamed these words at her but at the same time, it seemed as if her very eyes had a mind of their own.
Her eyes widened as she remained fixated on the slowly opening stall door.
The door was almost opened now, the. reading sound getting even louder as if to warn her of the danger that lurked behind it.
Her heart hammered violently against her chest as her knees buckled threatening to give up under her weight.
Then finally, it was fully ajar.
What was strange was the fact that even though the entire restroom was brightly lit, the stall was completely dark.
Her yes squinted trying to see if she could make out anything from within the darkness.
But it seemed futile. Megan still did not look back as she was afraid that if she were to let her guard down, she would be in grave danger.
She was still confused as to what was happening but one thing that she was sure about was that there seems to be another external force involved.
One that could not be understood easily.
Then in the pitch black darkness, something moved.
It was fast and Megan could not follow the movement with her eyes.
She turned her head to stare at the door of the restroom contemplating if the embarrassment waiting for her outside was more daunting than whatever was in the dark stall.
Her breathing became hollow and loud as the only sounds that could be heard was her breathing.
Beads if sweat began to gather on the sides of her face causing her already greasy hair to further stick to her face.
The air in the bathroom became tense and for a second, Megan seriiusky contemplated going out there to face the shame.
Her gaze turns back to the stall through the mirror and the reaction came in an instant.
Megan had to hold her hand over her mouth to stop herself from screaming loudly.
Her boood tan cold through her veins as tears stained her cheeks.
Her entire body visibly trembled as her entire form became pale.
She held on to the sink even tightly further cutting off blood supply.
It was a face…..
A face of a woman…..
The more she stared, the more she couldn’t be sure if what it was that she was looking at.
For the time that she had stared at the door exit, this thing had emerged from the darkness.
Only a face….
A face and nothing else.
She could not be sure as her heart threatened to escape from the confines of her chest.
Megan could not explain it but the more that she stared at the strange figure, the more she could hit make out what exactly she was looking at.
“Megan.”
An icy cold voice croaked out and rye reaction came in an instant.
A shudder ran through her spine as gois pimples gathered all over her arms.
She turned around and pressed her back against the sink. The ceramic material cold against her body.
Megan wanted to run away but if she were to be very honest with herself, the fate waiting for her outside was more perilous to her than what she had to face out there.
Especially not after she had had a tatste of what it looks like to have everything that she could ever possibly want in life.
Her senses were awakened and Megan was willing to do whatever it took to have such a life…..permanently.
“Megan…..why did you open the door?”
The voice called out softly in a whisper but it did nothing to calm Megan’s fast beating heart.
Her lips parted in a small gasp but she had nothing to say.
Nothing to say because she did not even understand what was going on.
“It was you who let her in Megan. You started all of this.”
The voice whispered again but instead of a soft tone, the voice grew sharper and had an accusatory tone.
Her breath became shaky as the strange face continued to morph into something grotesque and horrid.
Then silence…..
The silence was loud and for a quick second, Megan wished she would hear the strange figure talking again.
Then out of the stall walked out a little girl.
She was drenched.
Her blonde hair stuck to her face as she was visibly shivering.
Her eyes were red and hollow and her lips blue. Her face was pale.
She had on a light blue nightdress that clung to her small frame.
In her arms, she tightly clutched a worn out and dirty stuffed rabbit.
Megan froze. Her mind flashed back to the manuscript. Don’t let her in after 3:00am.
The girl tilted her head, water dripping from her chin onto the tile.
“Why didn’t you listen?”
The girl asked and even though she was obviously cold, her tone was sharp as she remained calm.
“I-I don’t know you. Where is your mom?”
Cleo asked hurriedly.
She may not know what was going on but one thing that she did not want to be involved with was a missing child.
As Megan spoke, her stomach churned. She could not explain it but somewhere deep down, she believed that she knew who this child was.
The girl stepped closer as she remained silent.
“You need to pay. You need to pay for the life you stole.”
She said with a strong horrid voice that was not her own.
