No Turning Back (Alex's Pov)

The world outside the cabin was still. The trees loomed tall and silent, their branches swaying with the wind like dark sentinels guarding the entrance to a place Alex would have given anything not to face. He stood at the edge of the woods, his eyes scanning the terrain ahead as his brothers closed in around him, forming their usual tight circle. Their resolve was a quiet force, but Alex could feel the undercurrent of urgency vibrating in the air.

It had been a long week since the failed attempt at Sebastian’s pack house, a week where each passing hour had gnawed at his soul. Every night, the moonlight had mocked him, reminding him of how much was at stake—of how far he'd been willing to go to save Lily, only to come up empty-handed. Now, as they made their move again, Alex wasn’t sure how much longer his patience would hold out.

“Is it in place?” Alex asked, keeping his voice low but sharp.

Markus gave a short nod, his hand tightening around the weapon at his side. "The diversion's set. We just have to get to her."

Alex glanced over at Michael, who was focused, his mind working through every detail of their plan. "And the artifact?"

“It’s ready,” Michael confirmed, his tone steady. “It’s not much, but it’ll do. If Sebastian’s as arrogant as I think he is, he won’t see it coming.”

Alex let out a slow breath. They had all agreed this was their best shot. The artifact—an ancient weapon meant to weaken werewolves—was a gamble. There was no guarantee it would affect Sebastian the way they hoped. But desperate times called for desperate measures.

“Let’s move.” Alex’s voice was tight with resolve as he turned to lead them into the heart of the pack’s territory.

The air grew thick with the scent of the wolves as they neared the gates of Sebastian’s fortress. The massive stone walls of the pack house loomed in front of them, just as imposing as it had been when they’d last confronted Sebastian. But this time, they weren’t backing down.

As they crept through the woods, the sound of a twig snapping underfoot made Alex freeze. His senses were on high alert now—every noise, every movement, felt like a warning. He glanced at his brothers. Markus was scanning the area, his eyes narrowed, while Michael was checking their surroundings. Eric was as restless as ever, but even he knew the importance of staying hidden.

They were close now—too close. The pack house loomed in the distance, shadows flickering at the windows as the wolves moved about inside. But Alex could sense Sebastian’s presence more than ever. The Alpha was here, waiting for them, and it wasn’t going to be easy.

“I can feel him,” Alex muttered, his voice low, barely audible.

“Stay focused,” Michael warned, his hand resting on his brother’s shoulder. “We’re getting her out of there, but we do it together.”

Alex nodded, his jaw clenched tight. “We do this now.”

As they reached the gates, they crouched low, moving like shadows under the cover of the trees. They had to be quick. The moment they were detected, everything would fall apart.

“We’ll split up,” Alex said. “Markus, take the east side. Michael, you’re with me. Eric, you take the west. We hit them hard and fast.”

“Got it,” Markus growled, already moving toward his designated area.

Eric, as always, grinned, though his eyes were filled with determination. “Let’s make this count.”

Alex gave them one last look before signaling for Michael to follow. They crept toward the entrance, their footsteps silent against the cold earth. As they neared the pack house, Alex’s heart pounded in his chest. He couldn’t afford any mistakes now. Lily was inside, waiting for him. She had been waiting for days, and he refused to leave without her.

The sound of the door creaking open sent a chill down Alex’s spine. They were getting closer.

He signaled for Michael to stay back while he edged forward, peeking around the corner of the building. There were two guards at the front entrance, their eyes scanning the area with dangerous precision. Alex’s muscles tensed, and he motioned for Michael to follow him around the back.

They were nearly inside when a low growl reverberated through the air. Alex stopped dead in his tracks, his instincts screaming at him that they had been made. His eyes shot to Michael’s, and the unspoken command was clear: fight or flight.

“We need to move,” Michael hissed, his hand reaching for the knife at his side.

But before Alex could make a decision, the door behind them slammed open with a deafening crash, and a figure stepped into the light.

“Did you think you could sneak in here, vampire?” Sebastian’s voice was dripping with menace, his form towering and imposing as he blocked their only escape route.

Alex’s heart skipped a beat. It was over. They had been caught.

“Sebastian,” Alex said, his voice calm but laced with fury. “Let her go.”

Sebastian’s eyes flickered with amusement. “You’re a fool to come back here, Alex. You’re out of your depth.”

Alex’s grip tightened on the weapon in his hand. “I came here to end this. And I’ll do whatever it takes.”

The two stood there, locked in a battle of wills, the tension crackling in the air between them. Behind them, Michael moved silently, circling to flank the Alpha. But even as they prepared for the inevitable conflict, Alex could feel the weight of the situation pressing down on him. They weren’t just fighting for victory now—they were fighting for survival.

“Release her,” Alex commanded, his voice full of authority.

Sebastian chuckled darkly. “You’re not in charge here, vampire. You never were.”

Before Alex could react, a sharp sound rang out from inside the pack house—a scream, one filled with agony. It was Lily.

Alex’s heart lurched in his chest, and without thinking, he surged forward, throwing himself at Sebastian. The Alpha was quicker, sidestepping with a snarl, but Alex’s attack had bought Michael the time he needed. In one fluid motion, Michael leaped forward, thrusting the ancient artifact into Sebastian’s side. The artifact hummed with energy, and for a moment, Sebastian’s expression flickered with surprise.

“What is this?” Sebastian growled, his voice thick with disbelief.

But it was too late. The artifact was already working, sending a shockwave of power through Sebastian’s body. His knees buckled, and he let out a sharp, guttural cry, the sound reverberating through the walls of the pack house.

With Sebastian temporarily incapacitated, Alex wasted no time. He grabbed Michael’s arm and shoved him toward the door. “Lily,” Alex said, his voice raw with urgency.

They burst into the building, rushing through the darkened hallways. The scent of wolves was overpowering, but all Alex could focus on was Lily’s presence, her heart beating in the distance. He could feel her fear, her pain, and it only fueled his determination to get to her.

Finally, they found her. She was tied to a chair, her face pale and bruised, but her eyes—those eyes—were filled with a mix of relief and fear.

“Alex,” she whispered, barely able to speak. “You shouldn’t have come.”

“I’ll never leave you again,” Alex vowed, his voice thick with emotion. He quickly untied her, his hands trembling.

As soon as she was free, Lily collapsed into his arms, her body shaking with sobs. For a moment, they simply held each other, the world around them fading away. But Alex knew they couldn’t stay here for long. The pack would come for them.

“Let’s go,” Alex whispered urgently, lifting her into his arms.

With one final glance at the chaos they had left behind, Alex and his brothers fled into the night, carrying with them the promise of a future that was still uncertain—but one they would fight for.
