Desperate Measures (Alex's Pov)
It had been three days since Alex and his brothers had been forced to retreat from Sebastian's territory. Three days of planning, of waiting. The silence had settled over Alex like a thick fog, and every minute felt like an eternity. Lily was still with Sebastian, and the more time that passed, the more Alex’s frustration grew. But he knew he couldn’t rush in blindly. The stakes were too high.
He paced in the small, dimly lit cabin they had made their temporary base. Michael, Markus, and Eric were gathered around a table, maps spread out before them. Their eyes were hard, focused, but Alex could tell they were all on edge. They had a plan—at least, that’s what they kept telling him. But Alex knew they were just buying time, trying to figure out their next move.
"Any word?" Alex asked, his voice barely a whisper, but the weight of it was clear. He couldn’t sit still any longer.
"No," Michael replied, his voice calm but weary. "Sebastian hasn’t made any moves yet. We’ve had eyes on his territory, but he’s keeping things tight."
Markus grunted, clearly dissatisfied. "He knows we’re coming. You think we can just wait him out?"
"I don’t want to wait," Alex growled. His eyes burned with a fire that was impossible to ignore. "I want her back."
Eric, who had been unusually quiet, stood up from the table. "Alex, rushing in again won’t solve anything. We’re not just going up against him. We’re going up against an entire pack of wolves who would tear us apart if we aren’t careful."
Alex’s gaze snapped to Eric. "I’m not afraid of them. I’m not afraid of Sebastian. I’m afraid of losing her." His voice cracked slightly on the last word, but he quickly regained control.
Markus laid a hand on Alex’s shoulder. "We know. And we’re with you. But we can’t afford to make any more mistakes."
Alex knew they were right. He had been impulsive before, acting on pure instinct. But this wasn’t just about him anymore—it was about Lily, and he couldn’t afford to fail her.
"We need leverage," Alex finally said, his voice cold and calculating. "Something that will make him vulnerable. He might think he’s invincible, but he’s not. There has to be a way to make him doubt himself."
Michael nodded slowly. "I’ve been working on that. I’ve got some contacts who might know something about his weaknesses—about what makes him tick. But it’s risky. We’ll have to move fast."
Alex’s eyes darkened. "Then we move fast."
The next few days were filled with meticulous planning. Michael’s contacts came through with some valuable intel, pieces of information that Alex had been desperately waiting for. They had learned about a rare, ancient artifact that could weaken werewolves, something that had once been used by the vampire community to level the playing field during wars. It wasn’t guaranteed to work on Sebastian, but it was their best shot.
The night before they were to make their move, Alex sat alone outside the cabin, the weight of the decision heavy on his shoulders. The full moon above seemed to mock him, reminding him of how close he was to losing everything. Lily was still out there, in the hands of someone who had no intention of letting her go.
"I’ll get you back," Alex muttered under his breath, his hands clenched into fists.
He could feel his brothers behind him, watching from the shadows, waiting for his next move. Markus stepped forward first, his towering figure casting a shadow over Alex.
"We’re ready," Markus said simply.
Alex stood, turning to face them. "This ends tomorrow. No more waiting. No more second-guessing. We do this, or we don’t. But I’m not going to lose her."
The plan was set in motion the next day. They moved quickly and quietly, using the element of surprise to get past the pack’s outer defenses. But as they neared the heart of Sebastian’s territory, Alex could feel the tension building. The closer they got, the more palpable the danger became. Every step he took was a step closer to the confrontation he had been dreading.
They reached the pack house just as night began to fall, the air thick with the scent of wolves. Alex’s senses were heightened, his mind racing as he scanned the area. He could feel the presence of Sebastian, like a shadow hanging over them.
"We’re close," Alex whispered, his voice low and dangerous.
The final stretch was the hardest. They couldn’t afford to make a sound. Every crack of a twig beneath their feet felt like a warning to the pack. But they were too close to turn back now.
Alex glanced at his brothers, who were silently prepared for whatever came next. They had come this far, and there was no turning back.
As they approached the gates of the pack house, Alex could feel his pulse quicken. This was it. The moment of truth.
