Chapter 1709 Jubilant Song

Chapter 1709 Jubilant Song

Rachel glanced over casually, her eyes landing on the logo at the collar of the black suit worn by the bodyguard at the door. Every family had uniforms for their bodyguards. She looked at the logo—it was the Shaw Family's.

People from the Shaw Family were here to see Jamie...

When Rachel came back, she instinctively brought an extra serving of nutritious soup.

No matter what, Jamie had saved Elmer.

For that alone, Rachel had to thank Jamie.

When she arrived at Jamie's door, she hesitated for a moment.

Just as she was about to turn and leave, the door behind her opened.

A young woman walked out, wearing a light brown dress and sunglasses. She glanced at Rachel and seemed to recognize her. "Ms. Howard, I heard Mr. Lawson just had surgery. How is he recovering?"

Rachel looked at her, carefully searching through her memories. She didn't remember knowing this person.

Her expression remained calm as she said, "He's doing okay."

"I was just chatting with Jamie and your name came up."

Rachel pulled a name from her memory.

Marcella Shaw.

The Shaw Family's only daughter.

If she remembered correctly, the Shaw Family had a project six years ago, and they worked very well with Jamie.

At that time, Mr. Shaw had even considered marrying Marcella to Jamie.

Back then, she had been jealous of Marcella.

But that matter quickly fizzled out.

Because Jamie didn't like her at all.

Rachel maintained a distant but polite smile. "I won't disturb Ms. Shaw any longer. I should go check on my husband."

Marcella smiled. "Ms. Howard, do you have time? Let's have dinner together."

Rachel didn't agree. She simply said, "This is the first time Ms. Shaw and I have met. We don't really know each other. Sorry, I don't have the time." Rachel's rejection was straightforward.

This was within Marcella's expectations.

A bodyguard whispered something in Marcella's ear. Her expression changed slightly, and then she left.

Rachel spent the entire day at Elmer's hospital room door, not leaving for a single step. She urged Isaac to go rest while she kept watch, not moving an inch. Perhaps this was the last time she would spend with Elmer.

The word "divorce"—she just couldn't bring herself to say it.

But today was the last deadline Jamie had given her.

If she still hadn't handled this matter, she didn't know what a madman like Jamie might do.

In the evening, the doctors and nurses made their final rounds. After the doctor came out, Rachel went to the doctor's office to ask about Elmer's condition.

Jagger happened to be in the office too. Jagger had his own private office, but tonight the doctor on duty doing rounds was Jagger's student. At that moment, Jagger was discussing patient conditions with his student. When he saw Rachel, he followed her out to the corridor.

The wind blew in from outside the window, slowly calming Rachel's troubled mind.

"Elmer's condition is relatively stable right now, but he's not out of danger yet. One month after surgery, two months after, and up to six months after—he'll need to come in for detailed checkups at regular intervals."

Jagger noticed Rachel seemed lost in thought and called her name twice. Rachel looked at him hesitantly. "Dr. Kamel, he will live a healthy life, right?"

Jagger had seen this expression many times before on patients' families—hopeful yet anxious and afraid.

Whether they were rich or poor, everyone was the same in the face of illness.
