Chapter 96 Provoking the devil
LILLIAN
I watched him fiddle with his cup, his eyes buried on the menu like his life depended on it.
I leaned into the chair, genuinely enjoying this moment. It was something about seeing a powerful mob boss reduced into a scared mess in front of me that just made me feel so.... powerful.
I never knew Bryan had that much power. Vincent was terrified of him.
" Are you going to tell him?" He asked.
" Why did you try to kill me? And before you answer, note that your answer will determine greatly if Bryan finds out or not"
" You are threatening me" he said, his head bobbing like the truth was something he could not grasp.
" You are the one that had a knife to my neck and failed to use it. I thought it was some rookie. I'm greatly disappointed in you by the way"
" Who the hell are you? You can't be Akira...she was never this..."
I rolled my eyes.
I have heard this story way too often. Akira was too weak. She had to be stronger.
" Well maybe I'm not her..is that why you didn't kill me?".
" I didn't kill you because I thought Bryan would be somewhere watching. But now you should know that I won't miss another opportunity to stab a knife through your heart".
I hummed.
" Well that is good to know. I will assume Leon put you up to this. Would I be telling Bryan about this? No. But I will love to see you try and hurt me. You have no idea what you are playing with and I will make the earth itself so uncomfortable for you, you pick death".
I enjoyed how his face seemed to contort from surprise to fear in an instant.
I got up, picking up my bag.
" If you don't mind, I have to go now. Pay for the drinks. It's the least you can do after making me sit in that smelly prison"
Waves of thoughts ran through my head as I got to my car. It was obvious that Leon was not letting up. So now, I had to take matters into my own hands.
The wedding invitation he had sent to me still laid scrawled in the back seat, the font an obvious choice of Stella.
This was perfect. The perfect time to ruin everything they worked for.
Just then my phone rang.
" Are you busy now?" Bryan asked the minute I picked the call
" Depends on what you want from me" I said, smug. I was beginning to see why Akira liked him.
" I'm at your place currently and I'm making dinner, wanted to ask if you liked spicy foods" I paused, stared at my phone and pressed the phone on my ears again.
" Wait what....what the hell are you doing in my house? How are you even..."
" I guess the answer will be yes. Come home quickly, the chicken is nearly ready to be taken out of the oven"
I stared at the blank screen in my hands. Surely he was bluffing. There was no way he was in the iskitchen with an apron around his waist making dinner for me. Even the image alone caused me to chuckle.
But he was not bluffing.
His white Porsche was parked in the garage alongside the other cars, somehow standing it because of its beautiful coat.
" You never told me you would be bringing home a man, and certainly not one that can cook so good" aunt Loretta said the minute I stepped in, wiggling her eyebrows.
" No, you know that's not it. He is just a friend" I tried to defend myself.
Just a friend? My mind flashed back to the other night, our hands tangled in each other's hair as we tried to gasp for breathe, the car rocking with the sound of our bodies as our lips mingled.
I shut my eyes tightly to keep out the thoughts.
Yes. Just friends.
" Well your... friend is in the kitchen and with the way it's going, I might have to hire him as my personal chef"
I watched her walk away with that knowing look, my cheeks fluttering as I made my way towards the kitchen.
" I never knew you could cook" I said to him, watching him turn to face me, his apron hugging his being, eyes fluttering down to mine.
" Well there are a lot of things you don't know about me miss Akira. If you give me a chance, I'm willing to show you all of them"
I hummed. The aroma that filled the kitchen combined with how his eyes dragged on my body slowly was enough to set me in the mood. Maybe I did not need to fight whatever this was.
I allowed him draw closer to me, his hands slowly reaching for mine, eyes still glued to my body as I bit back a low sigh of satisfaction that threatened to leave my mouth the minute his lips found mine.
My body was pressed to the counter and his eyes seemed to glimmer as he held my waist, the perfect mixture of spice and woodsy scent drifting through my nostrils.
" Am I interrupting something?" A voice called, startling the both of us.
Narim stared from me to him, his eyes stopping on the spatula that Bryan still clutched in his hand.
" Well it's good to know that while I have been running around trying to clean up your family's mess, you have been here kissing another man"
I paused.
" What the hell is that supposed to mean? We were supposed to mean up later to discuss it anyways"
" I can't with you. I just found out who killed Lily and I thought to tell you." He finally blurted out.
