Chapter 225

Chapter 225

"If that's the case, actually..."

Before she could finish, the woman knelt down right in front of Victoria. "Doc, please, you gotta help us! My man needs to get better real quick, or he won't be able to keep up with his job."

Seeing his wife like that, the man got all worked up. "Enough talking."

Victoria didn't pick up on any tension and thought the man was just worried about causing a scene. She waved her hand dismissively. "Chill out, your wife's just looking out for you."

"Yeah, yeah." The man nervously fidgeted, his eyes betraying a hint of fear.

Terry, observing the situation, chimed in, "Victoria, acupuncture might not be necessary in his case..."

"But with some acupuncture, he could bounce back faster."

"Since they're both on board with acupuncture, go ahead and set it up!"

"Got it." Victoria nodded.

After double-checking everything, she handed the prescription she'd written to Terry for a once-over.

Then, she prepped for the acupuncture session.

Just then, Terry's phone rang. He answered the call, eyeing the prescription.

Whatever was said on the other end got him all tense. He quickly put down the prescription and called out to Victoria, "Wrap things up here and wait for me, I'll be right there."

Victoria was focused on giving the man acupuncture and didn't catch Terry's words clearly. She also missed the woman slipping into the treatment room, glancing at the man on the bed with needles in him, then quietly leaving.

When Victoria emerged, Terry was nowhere to be found, and the woman had vanished too.

"Did your wife go to pick up the meds?"

She scanned the table but didn't spot the prescription.

The man had already hopped off the bed and said in a rush, "I'll go find her."

"No need. If she brings the meds later, I'll explain everything to you in detail."

She furrowed her brow, feeling a bit uneasy.

Unexpectedly, the man waved her off. "Nah, we'll ask the pharmacy folks later. Don't wanna bother the doc."

Victoria felt suspicious as the man walked away.

She thought about following him but then saw Terry returning. She hurried over. "Dr. Perez, were you outside just now?"

Terry waved his hand, with a wry smile. "Nah, it's nothing. Someone used my son's phone to call me. Just as I was about to go look for them, my wife called and said the phone was returned."

"I was freaking out, thinking something happened to my kid."

Terry, usually cool and collected, seemed a bit rattled when it came to his child.

Victoria nodded in understanding. Even though she didn't have kids, she could relate to the situation.

"If the couple left?"

Terry had planned to get the prescription signed but noticed the empty table and treatment room, so he asked out of instinct.

Victoria nodded. "I'm not sure what went down, but they bolted out of here in a rush."

Terry furrowed his brow, recalling the unsigned prescription.

But then he shrugged it off. If he didn't sign it, the pharmacy wouldn't hand over the meds. If the patients were serious, they'd be back.

If they didn't return, it meant they weren't keen on the meds.

Given the couple's behavior, they likely wanted to save some cash.

No wonder they pushed for acupuncture earlier. It wasn't about a speedy recovery; they just wanted to skip the meds post-acupuncture.

Terry sighed, opting not to bring up the prescription again.

The man wasn't in critical condition. Even without meds, as long as he took care of himself at home, he'd be fine.

With that in mind, he kept it brief with Victoria.

Later, a nurse's aide handed Victoria a form. "Dr. Neville, come on, fill this out quick."

She seemed pleased with herself.

Victoria was puzzled. "What's this for?"

Terry glanced at it, explaining, "You're on staff permanently now, so you'll have night shifts. Fill it out."

"And add an emergency contact," the nurse's aide chimed in.

Victoria hesitated briefly but ended up jotting down Edward's number.

The nurse's aide peeked at it and couldn't help but grin. "You put your hubby's number, right?"

Victoria's marriage to Edward was common knowledge at the hospital.

Remembering Edward picking her up before, she said, "Oh, I saw a picture in the group earlier. It looks like your hubby's here to get you. Since you're off today, you should head out soon!"

Victoria smirked. "Got it, thanks."

Even Terry couldn't resist a smile.

Outside, Edward was waiting by the door.

She hurried over.

In the car, before Edward could speak, she reached for his phone. "Mr. Hamilton, mind if I borrow your phone for a sec?"

Though puzzled, Edward handed it over.

Victoria did some quick maneuvers on his phone. When she was done, it rang.

Seeing the note on the screen, Edward's eyes lit up, a smile spreading across his face.

Handing him back the phone, she asked, "All good?"

He raised an eyebrow.

Victoria nodded confidently.

Thinking she wanted her phone back, Edward was surprised when she made a call on his phone. "That's it? You didn't do anything!"

Indignant, Victoria explained, "What do you mean I didn't do anything? I did!"

She was self-righteous, and Edward was at a loss whether to laugh or cry.

"You did something just now, but it wasn't your phone you were fiddling with, was it? It was yourself, right?"

He thought Victoria might have made a mistake.

Unexpectedly, Victoria nodded. "Yes, I set up an emergency contact on my phone. It hit me while filling out that form at the hospital today."
