Chapter 142 Letting go

Chapter 142 Letting go
Sparkle

My father sat beside me on my bed as he occasionally ruffled my hair. We were deeply focused on the screen, listening to what Dalton was saying. He had announced the birth of his son and had announced the date of his christening, which was a week from now. The crowd kept cheering louder and louder making it hard for him to keep talking. He stopped talking, looked down the balcony, and smiled at the crowd gathered in the courtyard.
There’s something rare about Dalton’s smile, it is simply beautiful, his face lights up and his eyes get tiny. It reminds me of how adorable he can be. I hope he smiles more from now on, I would love to see more of this Dalton.

“Sparkle, I’m glad you didn’t listen to us when we opposed your relationship,” my dad broke his silence. “Being with an Alpha fits perfectly who you are as a person. Only an Alpha can love you the way you ought to be loved.” I stared at him and smiled.

My mother walked in rocking my little pup and trying to stop him from crying. “Sparkle, I think he’s hungry again, he’s getting fussy.”

“But he just ate,” I argued as I watched my son whining. I wondered who he looked like, me or Dalton?
“I checked and it’s not wet yet, so it’s definitely hunger.” She hands my baby over to me,
I take him and rock him and he immediately stops crying,
“Oh, congratulations, you got yourself a Velcro baby,” she said and resigned to a lazy chair in the corner of the room. She saw Dalton on the balcony, reading out a speech and smirked. “Sparkle, how on earth did you meet Dalton?” she asked and stared at me with a curious look on her face. I smiled as the memories came rushing back, the negative pregnancy tests, the fights with Damien’s mother that day, and the dog I was asked to put out of its misery. Back then I was saving it so I could keep it as a pet, look how that turned out?

“You remember the injured dog I was hiding in your outhouse?” I asked her as she gasped.
“Are you serious? That was Dalton?” she exclaimed. I nodded happily.
“Honey, after Dalton’s speech can we go and see my Mom’s house in Franny Islands” my dad politely asked my mom.
“Oh it’s already over.” my mother said, pointing to the screen, Dalton was no longer on the balcony, it was just the reporters dispersing while some stayed to talk to the staff in the forecourt.
“Sparkle, we will be back before sundown,” my dad said as he got up from the bed and planted a kiss on my forehead. “I just want to take your mom to see where we used to live when we were kids.” I nodded.

“Have fun,” I said as they left me with my pup who had refused to go back to sleep. It had been a minute since they left when Dalton came rushing back in, he quickly took our pup from me and rocked him back and forth. Watching him be a dad is so endearing, it comes so effortlessly to him.

“You said you had great news for me, now shoot,” I said impatiently.
“No, let’s call Lucy first,” he said, sitting on the bed holding the pup like an accessory, I frowned,
“Hold my baby with care,”
“He’s fine,” he replied, he wasn’t wrong, he only cooed and made playful sounds despite being suspended like that.
He took out his phone and called Lucy and put it on speaker, while it rang, we stared at each other and back at the phone, after the third ring, Lucy answered but she didn’t say hello. It was a breathing competition till Dalton said hello,

“Hello, Dalton, how is it?”
“It’s been great so far” he solemnly responded.

“I can see that, I just watched your state address, congratulations on the birth of your son, I’m so happy for you Dalton.” I could hear her say,
“I specially called to thank you. Sparkle talks about how you saved her life and brought her back home, I want to thank you for it all.”

“You don’t have to, she would do the same for me too.”
“So… are you okay? Will you call her and check up from time to time?” Dalton asked. Lucy purred, “I don’t want to continue being friends with Sparkle, at least not now. But if she ever needs me, I’m always ready to help.” she replied.
Honestly, I wasn’t hurt or anything, I could understand her, she really loved Dalton and I came between them. She will forever see me as the girl who ruined her relationship and took her mate away.

“I’m fine, I might call her.”
“That’s nice, Lucy. Me and Sparkle plan on naming our daughter after you if we ever have one,” he said as I rolled my eyes at him. I’m definitely not naming my daughter Lucy, but whatever.
“Are you sure Sparkle will allow that?” She burst into laughter, Dalton also burst into laughter. Our pup got fussy again so he had to hang up. I folded my arms with a frown on my face making him sigh.
“Give me my baby,” I said in a raspy voice.
“Why are you upset? Didn’t you ask me to call her?’
“I didn’t ask you to try and name our daughter after her.” I retorted. “Come on Dalton, our son doesn’t even have a name.”
“Yeah, you are right. We should be thinking of a name for our son,” he said as I took our fussy pup away. Rocking him gently. He got up and paced the room, “I want to name him after my dad, but at the same time I want to hear what you have. Do you have any name in mind?”

“We could name him after my first husband,” I replied,
“What? No way! Why would you even suggest that?”

“See? You hear how crazy that sounds?”
“Okay fine, I'm just joking, but I guess I took it too far.” he apologised as I blushed and sulked at the same time. He took the sleeping pup away from me and laid him down in the cot, then he climbed and joined me in bed. “So about the great news,” he announced as he wrapped his arms around me, my ears perked up to hear more.

“I had my guys comb the surrounding packs to find James, and I have had him jailed for one year, for abduction.”
My eyes glistened with joy, “Dalton, how did you know what he did? I didn’t even tell you.”

“I figured it out myself and that’s why I have him in jail, hopefully he learns or he will go like his father.” I hugged Dalton tightly,
“I’m so happy I found you.” I exclaimed almost in tears, “Thank you for loving me always, even when it’s hard.”
“And thank you for always saving me, even when it seems impossible,” he replied and sealed it with a kiss. For the first time, I had found love and reassurance in one person and oh, our son’s name is Alexander George Roux.
