Chapter 140 Congratulations
Chapter 140 Congratulations
Dalton
I stayed with Sparkle as she paced the room in pain, I thought she would sit and writhe in pain but instead she walked to and fro and whenever I tried to comfort her, she would push me away. Her pain was my pain too but she didn’t understand it that way, she felt I wasn’t going through it physically so I didn’t deserve to sympathize with her.
“Sparkle can you please lie down so I can check how far you have dilated?” The OBGYN calmly said to her, trying to get her to lie down. She obeyed and limped back to the bed, as she lay down I whispered to the midwife, “Didn’t you give her the shot? Why is she still in pain?"
“I asked myself the same question,” she whispered back, “but everyone is different, Alpha and labor is not an easy thing, once the pup is here she will be fine.”
“But it’s been sixteen hours! Hasn’t she suffered enough?” I exclaimed.
“We’re going to have to perform an emergency surgery if the pup isn’t born within the next 4 hours, because she’s getting exhausted.” The midwife replied.
Surgery? How are we going to have a session in this house? I know I prepared for all of that but truth be told, having a surgery at home is going to be very risky. I looked over at the OBGYN and the doctor who were trying to help Sparkle relax and began to panic. Even if they decide to take her to the theatre, it’s going to be very risky because of the weather. Sparkle’s parents set off long ago and still haven’t made it here because it's so icy outside.
I fumed and hurried to Sparkle’s side, patting her hand gently and trying to see if she would still push me away. This time she didn’t, she held on to my hand as I rubbed her back and kissed her belly,
“I’m getting so tired, Dalton.” She whispered in my ear as I rubbed her back. “Speak to your child, mommy is tired.” She pleaded. I rubbed her abdomen over and over, but something strange happened. I noticed fur growing on certain parts of her body, specifically her lower abdomen and her hands. Was Sparkle turning into a wolf? I didn’t know what to make of the whole thing, was it because of the pup or was she genuinely becoming one?
There was a slight knock on the door, and one of the servants flew in to announce the arrival of Sparkle’s parents. I let out a purr to express my joy and relief.
“Let them in,” I said.
“My mom first please, my dad can come later,” Sparkle instructed despite the intense pain she was feeling she still had a lot to say. The servant understood immediately and left to bring Sparkle’s mother. I held her hands till the older lady stepped in. She didn’t smile or greet me, she only rushed to Sparkle’s side and ruffled her hair.
“Hello, Sunshine, why don’t we do some breathing exercises to take your mind off everything going on?” She soothingly said to her daughter while rubbing her back gently. “Watch me.” She instructed as Sparkle looked up at her. She drew in deep and let it out through her mouth and Sparkle did the same. Soon she wasn’t whining anymore, she was just doing as her mother had said.
I stood in the corner, checking the time, it had clocked 12 midnight, somehow, I was happy that my pup wasn’t going to be born the same day as Ronald’s burial day.
I stood in my small corner appreciating all my little blessings and the big ones too. I didn’t even notice how much time had gone by because I was lost in my own world, it was the piercing cry of a little child that brought me back to the room.
“Congratulations! It’s a boy!” The midwife announced joyfully as I purred for joy. I saw the midwife place a big baby boy on the table and clean him up, then she placed him on Sparkle’s chest, while she and her mother wept for joy.
I mean, I wept for joy too, I can’t believe I’m now a dad. It feels surreal, what’s even more unbelievable is that I get to do it with Sparkle, who would have thought?
“Gentleman? Will you come and see your baby or not?” Sparkle’s mother called out to me in the strictest voice ever. Rushed over to Sparkle’s side and kissed her forehead.
“Thank you,” I whispered.
“What for?”
“For making me a Dad,”
“Thank you too Dalton, I thought I’d never be a mother.” She replied.
The health specialists took a cue and left us in the ward to have some privacy. Sparkle’s mom looked at me for the first time and let out a sigh.
“It’s not your fault that I don’t like you. It’s just that your family has done a lot. Not just to others but to me too.” Sparkle and I stared at her, maybe confused, maybe flabbergasted. I tried to grab my pup off his mother’s chest but he cried and I had to let him go.
Sparkle’s mom helped her latch the baby so he could suckle on his mother’s breasts, I watched as he did then shifted my focus back to Sparkle's mom.
“What did my family do? Did you try to buy land here?”
She shook her head, “We already have a house here, my dad bought it even before I was born.”
Both Sparkle and I gasped, you can’t own land in this pack if you’re not a wolf, so how did they get it?
“Erm, Mrs. Engler, are you sure about this? Do you own a house here?”
“Yes, but your grandparents wouldn’t allow us to stay, they claimed we didn’t belong here.” She bitterly said to us, I went silent, trying to figure out how to explain to her that this place was only exclusive to wolves.
“Mom, I don’t know how to explain this but this place is not really for… erm…”
“For what humans? You mean to tell me that this place is for wolves only, right?”
Both Sparkle and I shook with surprise since when has she known about the existence of wolves, and why didn’t she say anything?
“Gosh, Mom! You know about werewolves?” Sparkle almost screamed.
“Why wouldn’t I? Sparkle, I know your dad and I have never said this to you and your sisters but we’re originally wolves too.” She said,
“WHAT!” Sparkle and I exclaimed.
“My dad never received his wolf, the same for me and my siblings. It was the same for your dad too. A lot of wolves were not receiving their wolves. There was panic in the pack, they thought it was a curse or something, so they kicked us out. All of us.” She turned and pointed her fingers at me, “Your grandparents kicked us out, they said we were misfits!” She laughed bitterly. “Isn’t it funny how fate works? Look whose descendants have brought the misfits back?”
