Chapter 134 Great escape
Chapter 134 Great escape
Lucy
After talking to Dalton, I began to regain my confidence; my innate ability to rebel, even in the face of danger, was awakened. I peeped out the window and saw everyone busily doing what they had to do to get the place ready for the ceremony. My stomach twisted in knots. Dalton was right; I do not want this. I can’t spend the rest of my life with a mate who manipulates even the stars.
I know I plan to take him down, but let's be honest, taking Ronald down will not be easy at all. Not only is he strong, but he’s powerful too, and if I could take him down, then it would have happened the first time I tried. Running is my only option. I believe in Dalton; he can protect my family if I do this for him.
I looked out the window again and knew immediately it would be impossible to jump through the window; the servants were strolling to and fro, and jumping in there would be a waste of time. So I decided to use another approach. I flung the door of my room open and came face to face with a cluster of servants in the corridor; they stared at me, and I stared back at them.
“Good day, ladies,” I replied and tried to walk past them, but they stood in my way, purposely blocking my path. I didn’t want it to look obvious that I was trying to get away by simply walking out, so I stopped and stared at them,
“Why are you guys blocking me? Am I banned from going downstairs or something?”
“No, my lady,” one of the older servants replied, “we just want to prevent the groom from seeing you before the ceremony. You know how we do it?”
I don’t know why, but that angered me a lot. Who says I even care about that stupid tradition when I barely even care about the groom?
“I just want to take a walk; the bedroom is suffocating. Do you expect me to remain in the room till the moon is out?” They gave me that stare that suggested that that was the plan after all. I didn’t argue any further; I went back to my room quietly, to think my plan through. I didn’t need to give up entirely; there was another way to go about it, but that would take a lot of time, so I reached out to Dalton.
“I don’t think we can meet early. Can you wait till the moon is out?”
“The ceremony would have started already. Do you want that rogue to claim you?”
“No, but I can’t leave now; security is too tight,” I replied.
“If security is tight now, imagine how tight it will be by the time the ceremony starts.” He linked back. I didn’t like Dalton’s reply; to be honest, he made me feel like I was making excuses, but that’s not the case. Ronald had the whole house surrounded; what was I supposed to do? Become invisible? I wish werewolves had that ability.
“I will leave you to figure it out, but I need you in the woods before the day ends.” He calmly said to me. I was upset; I wanted to ghost him altogether and just focus on being with Ronald. Didn’t he reject me and claim Sparkle as his mate? What does he want now? He doesn’t even deserve me. Why am I obeying him?
When I was done ranting to myself, I started asking myself a different set of questions. I wondered if I wanted to be claimed by Ronald. My answer was no; I can’t be his luna. He will use me for this position and discard me as soon as he no longer needs me. I need to get out of here before that happens.
The maids trooped in one after the other and bowed slightly to me. “It’s time for your bath.” I let out a sigh and followed them to the bathroom. While they bathed and got me ready for the ceremony, all I could think was how I was going to get out of there before Ronald could claim me. When I went downstairs to eat before the ceremony, I kept looking around to see the least guarded place so I could burst out of there. For now, there was none; the time was getting closer and closer, and the closer it got, the more anxious I became.
By the time we were in the forecourt, I was starting to lose hope. Ronald stood in the center of the garden waiting for me with a red rose in his right hand. A lot of rogues like him lined up the path; there was a bed of roses waiting for us in the center. In this ritual, once he marks me in the bed, he will be crowned alpha within the next few hours, and I could see why he would go for that option.
I looked behind him, and there was a long line of rogues. I looked behind me too, and it was perfect- not too guarded, and if I walked in a straight line, I would be out of the yard. My smile got bigger as I got closer to him; he smiled back.
“You must be excited.”
“I am… I never thought this day would come.” I replied with a fake smile plastered on my face. “But before I get marked, will you let me perform the last passage rite? My family is supposed to do it, but since you didn’t allow them to be here, let me do it on their behalf.” I pleaded with him.
“What ritual?” He seemed curious about what I wanted to do and willing to make me happy. Could he actually be into me? No, Lucy, get a grip! He’s only into himself.
“We usually burn some vanilla-scented incense and walk around the wedding hall. It is to ensure that the new bond is filled with pleasantness.”
I stared at him, hoping he would buy the story. I prayed to the goddess till Ronald finally nodded and asked his servants to bring me some incense sticks. I let out a huge sigh of relief.
With the burning incense sticks in my hands, I slowly walked around the garden like I was holding a torch in the dark. I kept going, as a procession closely followed. When I was almost at the exit, I stopped to make my calculations. I sniffed the air to measure how close Dalton’s troops were. Judging from the scent, they were about 2 meters away. I started to walk quickly, very quickly, then when I got to the exit, I stopped again; this time all eyes were on me. I threw the incense sticks in the air and took to my heels! Ronald himself began to chase me, and I knew that I was doomed if I didn’t get to the car first.
The car drove up to me and whisked me in. “We have her now! We’re heading for the woods,” one of the wolves said as I let out a huge sigh of relief. Now I can be reunited with Dalton.
