Chapter 133 A new idea
Chapter 133 A new idea
Dalton
I could feel my head spinning, two days? Wherever he was taking Sparkle, he’s already there by now. I had so many questions, yet I didn’t even know where to start.
“Was the lady pregnant?” I blurted out the pressing question on my mind; I needed to be sure that my pup hadn’t been born yet.
“Yes, she was. I’m pretty sure she was almost due, hence her husband's desperation to leave the motel. I don’t think they wanted their child to be born in a motel,” the receptionist tattled on and on.
“That is not his child!” I exploded with fury like an overheated kettle. “That is my partner and my unborn child.” My brief moment of insanity may have scared her because she looked at me with terror in her eyes,
“I’m so sorry, but when they came here, I thought they were together. The lady didn't look like she was under coercion or danger; she was just tired from the pregnancy, and the gentleman mostly just left her alone.”
Edmund patted my shoulder again, “You see? It means she’s in safe hands; just leave her alone.”
“What?” I exclaimed, this time clearly frustrated.
“Let’s step out and talk,” Edmund pleaded, which made me yield. We strolled out of the Motel and went into the forecourt.
“Dalton, I don’t think Sparkle will deliver any time soon. I know she’s heavy with pregnancy, but the pup isn’t due for a few days, and the mating ritual is tonight. If we don’t stop it tonight, there’s little we can do to stop the coronation.”
In other words, he was telling me to abandon the search for Sparkle and go back to the pack.
“Edmund, I doubt you would be of the same view if this were your partner in this situation.”
“I’m not dismissing your feelings, but think about this, the lady said James wasn’t bothering Sparkle, so she’s probably safe. If Sparkle agreed to be with James, that means she’s probably fine; if she wasn’t, she would have reached out.”
As much as this didn’t sit well with me, I had to ask myself why Sparkle went with James and did not attempt to reach out to me even once. Did he prevent her from doing that? I’m not sure; Sparkle isn’t easy to control. But then again, when the old lady called me, I remember her saying Sparkle left with James; there was no record of a struggle or anything. What was going on? Did she finally give up on us?
“Dalton, did you hear me?” Edmund asked. “I think it’s safer for her to be with him for now; you can’t take her back when you haven’t made it safe for her and her pup. Deal with Ronald tonight, worry about her tomorrow.”
He’s right; I haven’t had my priorities straight, I haven’t created a safe environment for my future family, James had every right to take Sparkle away, and she probably succumbed because all I ever do is put her in danger.
“You’re right,” I said with a sigh. We have to deal with Ronald first; Sparkle can’t return to a life of danger.” I agreed with him. I would either have to give up on the pack entirely or fight for a better life for my family.
I could see his eyes light up as he purred, “It’s so great to hear this from you.”
“But we won’t be going to the pack,” I announced, which drew confused stares from him,
“Where are we going then?”
“Let’s go back to the woods. I think I know how to take Ronald down this time.”
“But Dalton, he’s at the pack house! The one your dad built, how will you get him in the woods?”
I ignored him and kept moving till I was back on the streets looking for a car to stop and get in. As I signalled one of the cars to stop, I linked Lucy.
“Dalton?” She almost immediately replied. “You’re alive? Oh, thank goodness! For the second time, I thought I lost you."
“I know you’re getting married to Ronald…”
“If only I could stop him. I’m doing this against my will.” She replied.
“Lucy, I know you. You can escape if you want to; you’re never that helpless.” I tried to put enough energy into her to get out of the pack house.
“It’s not like that, Dalton. He threatened my family, you know my brother is my life. He threatened to harm him if I didn't comply.” She explained. I understood her. Ronald doesn’t make empty threats; he took my brother’s life too. I know how hard it is to lose a sibling.
“Lucy, I know how scary that feels, but he can’t do anything. Just listen to what I’m about to tell you… Escape the pack house any way that you can, even if you have to climb the window and jump out of it, just do it. When you are out, get to the gates; one of my guys will pick you up. If they’re not there on time, just hit the streets and get to the Rouge Square. I will be waiting for you.”
“What?”
“You heard me right.” I wasn’t very willing to repeat myself.
“You will be waiting? I thought you already claimed Sparkle as yours? What do you need me for? I was at the coronation, and I could see that she was pregnant! Who do you think you’re fooling?”
“Lucy, do you want to marry Ronald?”
“What? No! But I don’t get you…”
“Shut up, Lucy, I’m setting you free, I’m setting my pack free, I’m helping everyone, can’t you see that? This is a problem you created; don’t you want to fix this?”
She was silent for a while before I heard her say, “I will do as you say.”
“Great, I will be waiting.”
I got into a car I had managed to stop, and Edmund followed. The driver recognized us at once and was shaken out of his wits. “Alpha! You’re alive?”
“Ssshhhh.” I placed a finger on my lips. “If anyone hears a word about this, I will find you and deal with you.” I threatened him. He nodded out of fear and began to speed without asking anymore questions,
“Take us to the Rouge Square,” I instructed.
“So what’s the plan? Do you intend to send some troops to the Square?” Edmund inquired.
“Yes, please send them there; we will need them.”
“What exactly are you going to do at the Square when everyone is at the pack house at this time?” Edmund asked again. I understood his frustration, so I decided to let him in a little.
“I will be meeting the bride at the square,” I replied.
“The bride?” Edmund exclaimed. “How? Why? How possible is that? Are you crazy? Lucy will be in trouble; that’s simply not possible."
“You think so?” I sarcastically replied, “Keep calm and watch me,” I said with a smirk.
