Chapter 128 128
Chapter 128 128
LYKA POV
Two Weeks Later
“And then we can think of another way to sort everything out before the ceremony starts... ”
Amanda’s voice faded into meaningless noise inside my ears as I stared blankly at my reflection in the mirror.
The room buzzed with excitement around me.
Maids moved back and forth carrying jewelry, fabrics, flowers, and perfumes while soft chatter filled the air. The scent of roses lingered heavily throughout the room, mixing with the fragrance of incense burning near the windows.
Everything looked beautiful. Perfect.
Yet somehow, I felt completely detached from it all.
My mind was somewhere else entirely.
“Lyka… Lyka!”
I jolted violently out of my thoughts after Amanda called my name loudly.
“What?” I blinked rapidly while staring at her in confusion.
Amanda narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
“What do you mean ‘what’?” she complained while placing both hands on her waist. “I’ve been talking to you for the past five minutes, and you didn’t hear a single thing I said.”
I forced a smile quickly.
“No, I heard you,” I lied smoothly.
Amanda scoffed immediately.
“Please,” she deadpanned. “You heard me? You can’t even repeat one thing I said.”
A frustrated sigh escaped my lips as I dragged trembling fingers through my hair.
Honestly, pretending everything was fine was becoming exhausting.
“I think I’m losing my mind,” I muttered quietly.
Amanda’s expression shifted instantly.
Concern flickered across her face.
“What do you mean by that?” she asked carefully.
I immediately looked away. There was no way I could tell her the truth.
No way I could explain the terrifying thoughts haunting me every single day for the past two weeks.
Morgan’s pale face. Her cold skin.
That horrifying moment when I thought she died in front of me.
Even now, remembering it still made my stomach twist violently.
“Nothing,” I answered quickly while forcing another smile onto my face. “I’m probably just nervous because of the wedding.”
Amanda relaxed slightly after hearing that.
“Well, obviously,” she replied with a laugh. “Today is your wedding day. Anyone would panic.”
I nodded absentmindedly.
But nervousness wasn’t the real issue.
Fear was.
Guilt too.
Ever since that night, my thoughts had become unbearably chaotic. I kept replaying every decision I made inside that room repeatedly, wondering if things would’ve turned out differently if I had acted faster.
If I had entered sooner.
If I had stopped Morgan from going inside alone.
If I had trusted my instincts earlier.
Would she have ended up lying motionless on the floor?
The memory alone made my chest ache painfully.
Even though Derrick repeatedly assured me that Delinda saved her eventually, the fear never fully disappeared.
Because for a moment...
Morgan truly died before my eyes.
And I didn’t think I would ever completely forget that.
“You need to stop overthinking,” Amanda interrupted suddenly while adjusting the sleeve of my gown. “You wanted this marriage more than anyone.”
A faint smile tugged weakly at my lips.
“I remember when you were talking about seducing Derrick,” she teased with amusement. “Now look at you acting terrified.”
Normally, I would’ve laughed.
But today, even smiling felt difficult.
Amanda eventually sighed in defeat after realizing my mind had wandered again.
“You seriously need help,” she muttered dramatically before heading toward the door. “Anyway, I need to check something downstairs.”
She pointed toward the maids afterward.
“They’ll help you finish getting ready.”
I nodded quietly while watching her leave the room.
The moment Amanda disappeared, the maids immediately surrounded me again.
Soft compliments filled the room while they adjusted the final details of my appearance carefully.
“You look breathtaking, my lady.”
“The Alpha won’t survive after seeing you.”
“You truly look like a Luna.”
I smiled politely at their praises.
The gown draped elegantly around my body, made from luxurious blue silk embroidered carefully with silver patterns that shimmered beneath the light.
My hair had been styled into a loose bun adorned with delicate jeweled accessories that sparkled softly whenever I moved.
Everything about my appearance screamed perfection.
I looked beautiful. Beautiful… But unhappy.
No amount of expensive clothing could erase the heaviness lingering inside my chest.
Eventually, the maids guided me outside the room carefully since Amanda still hadn’t returned.
The hallway outside buzzed faintly with distant preparations from the ceremony downstairs.
But the moment I stepped outside...
My mood instantly darkened.
Zuri stood directly in front of my door waiting.
Of course.
Honestly, seeing her on my wedding day already felt like a bad omen.
Her eyes scanned my appearance slowly before a sarcastic smile spread across her lips.
“Wow,” she mused mockingly. “You actually look… slightly less homeless today.”
I stared at her blankly. Was she blind?
“What are you doing here?”
