Chapter 127 127
Chapter 127 127
LYKA
It was still Derrick standing before me.
“I know you’re angry,” I said carefully while trying to steady my breathing. “But you need to let her go.”
My eyes flickered briefly toward Morgan’s pale face.
“She was only trying to help you.” Phoenix laughed softly.
The sound alone made my skin crawl.
“Help me?” he repeated mockingly. “That’s amusing.”
His grip around Morgan’s throat tightened slightly.
“Are you truly foolish enough to believe this woman came here with good intentions?”
My brows furrowed immediately.
What?
I glanced toward Morgan again. Her face had become disturbingly pale now. Something definitely wasn’t right.
Still...
That didn’t mean Derrick could kill her.
“Enough!” I snapped. “You’re going to kill her!”
Phoenix finally released Morgan carelessly.
Her body collapsed weakly onto the floor like a broken doll.
Then his attention shifted fully toward me.
“Why are you suddenly so concerned?” he asked with amusement dancing inside his eyes. “I thought you disliked her.”
I exhaled shakily. Why couldn’t he understand?Whatever damage he caused using Derrick’s body would ultimately fall on Derrick alone.
“That body doesn’t belong to you,” I said firmly. “Anything you do right now will become Derrick’s burden later.”
His expression darkened instantly.
“You’re becoming arrogant,” he growled coldly.
A dangerous pressure filled the room immediately afterward.
“You bear my mark because I intervened. That weak fool inside me would never have protected you properly.” My heart skipped painfully hearing those words.
But before I could respond...
Something changed. Phoenix suddenly stiffened slightly.
The mist surrounding the room flickered weakly.
Then slowly…
It began disappearing. Relief slammed into me instantly.
“Thank the Moon Goddess,” I breathed out shakily.
I hurried toward Derrick immediately.
But the moment I reached him, I noticed Morgan lying motionless on the floor again.
Concern tightened inside my chest.
“You really caused a disaster this time,” I muttered while walking toward her quickly.
I knelt beside Morgan carefully before checking her pulse.
A faint heartbeat met my fingertips.
Relief washed through me instantly.
“She’s alive,” I whispered thankfully.
Good.
Because explaining a dead witch inside Derrick’s room would’ve been a nightmare.
After confirming she was breathing, I stood up and returned toward Derrick.
His hand looked bruised badly.
“Did you plan on killing everyone today?” I asked while grabbing his injured hand gently.
Derrick hissed softly in frustration.
“I thought I had control earlier,” he muttered quietly before trailing off.
His expression looked troubled. Overwhelmed. And honestly…
I couldn’t blame him.
People feared Derrick because they believed he was ruthless. Cruel. Monstrous.
But none of them truly understood the reality.
There was genuinely a monster living inside him.
A demon hidden beneath his skin. And somehow...
That terrifying man was still my mate. The same man who marked me recently with trembling hands.
“And you think you failed?” I asked softly before pulling lightly at his cheeks teasingly. “I think you did well.”
He looked startled by my response.
“At least you stopped yourself.”
Derrick opened his mouth again.
“I don’t think I’m the one controlling... ”
Suddenly, unease crawled through me again.
My gaze shifted toward Morgan instinctively.
Something felt wrong.
Very wrong. Without waiting further, I walked back toward her body.
“If she wakes up,” I muttered absently, “you definitely owe her an apology.”
But the moment my fingers touched her skin...
Ice. Cold. Far too cold. My heart stopped.
Fear exploded violently through my chest as trembling overtook my fingers instantly.
No.
No, no, no...
Please don’t let it be what I’m thinking.
Quickly, I pressed my fingers against her neck again desperately searching for a pulse.
Nothing.
My breathing became uneven immediately. I checked again. Still nothing.
My face drained completely of color.
“She’s not breathing anymore!” I screamed in horror.
I stumbled backward violently away from her body as terror consumed me whole.
Morgan remained completely motionless on the floor. Lifeless. And judging by the horrifying silence filling the room...
I already knew the truth.
Morgan was dead.
