Chapter 274

Chapter 274

The entry described how he had misunderstood Charlotte, thinking she'd pushed Sabrina at the restaurant. In his rush to carry Sabrina out, he'd actually knocked Charlotte down himself.

Later, Charlotte's lawyer had taken her to the hospital. Just as a doctor was about to treat her injuries, Alexander had ordered every on-duty doctor and nurse to attend to Sabrina instead. Charlotte had been forced to return to the waiting area with her untreated wounds, only to pass by a room where she saw him tenderly caring for Sabrina.

Alexander slowly remembered now.

When he'd rushed out of the restaurant, he had indeed heard Charlotte cry out.

But his entire focus had been on Sabrina. He hadn't even looked back.

'Alexander, you bastard!'

After cursing himself, enduring the dull ache in his chest, he turned to another diary entry.

He read about how whenever Sabrina so much as sneezed, he and his son would panic, immediately adding layers to her clothing and rushing her to the hospital for checkups.

Yet when Charlotte had been severely ill with the flu, she'd still forced herself to prepare nutritious soup for them.

Worse still, he and his son had treated her with disgust, telling her to keep her distance and demanding she wear a mask all day—so she wouldn't spread germs to them.

There was also Charlotte's birthday, which he'd abandoned the moment Sabrina mentioned a stomachache, leaving Charlotte alone at the restaurant.

Alexander's hands began trembling as he held the diary.

But he persisted, reading one volume after another.

Most of the later entries documented Charlotte's notes on managing their health and wellness.

Until he reached a page from seven years ago.

Charlotte had never forced Sabrina to leave!

Back then, she'd been preparing to devote herself to her career, working with Declan to expand the design business her mother had left behind.

Then Charles had called, interrupting her dreams.

To ensure Alexander could smoothly inherit the Forbes Group, she'd abandoned her ambitions without hesitation, reinventing herself to return to his side as a low-key, dutiful wife.

She'd even been willing to work anonymously behind the scenes to help his career flourish, asking nothing in return.

The diary slipped from Alexander's hands.

He clutched both sides of his head in agony.

After calming down, Alexander suddenly remembered something and grabbed his phone.

"Mom, I need to ask you again about the arranged marriage."

Cynthia had just been severely reprimanded by Nicole. Resenting Sabrina for costing her such an excellent daughter-in-law as Charlotte—and making her the biggest joke among River City's elite circles—she steeled herself and revealed the entire truth.

"You're saying Sabrina knew that marrying her would cost me the Forbes Group, so she refused to stay, took your money, and flew abroad that very night?"

"Yes! She specifically suggested I call Charlotte myself, since Charlotte was naive and still had feelings for you. She said I should convince Charlotte to return to River City for the arranged marriage."

"The moment I mentioned it, Charlotte flew back to River City and agreed to marry you."

"Your grandmother had originally wanted her to marry Landon, but no matter what anyone said, Charlotte insisted on choosing you."

Alexander's phone clattered to the floor.

He'd been the one failing Charlotte all along.

Now and before.

Since Nova's identity had been exposed, Zenith Enterprises Group's business had skyrocketed!

Some people had even tried secretly approaching Charlotte for collaborations, bypassing Zenith Enterprises Group entirely. But Charlotte had refused them all, citing the spirit of their agreement.

When Landon learned this, he was more thrilled than if he'd struck it rich.

He'd been right about her after all.

So he stopped pretending and directly presented Charlotte with the equity transfer documents he'd prepared when founding Zenith Enterprises Group.

Charlotte was so shocked she could barely speak: "What? You want to transfer fifty-one percent of Zenith Enterprises Group's shares to me?"

Landon grabbed her hand and placed it over his heart: "Feel my heartbeat. Then you'll know if I'm serious."

After a pause, he added meaningfully: "Zenith Enterprises Group—have you really never wondered about it?"

"Zenith Enterprises Group?" Charlotte took the bait, even forgetting to pull her hand back. "Wondered what? It's just the company name."

Watching her bewildered expression, Landon ground his teeth in frustration.

Unable to help himself, he tapped her forehead: "Looks like you've used all your intelligence on your career. You can't even figure out something this simple."

Charlotte winced.

She rubbed her forehead, wounded: "It is simple. What's there to figure out?"

Landon was speechless.

He turned and strode away.

But at the office door, he tossed back: "The agreement's there. Sign it whenever you figure it out."

Charlotte picked up the contract, muttering under her breath: "Figure out what? So cryptic!"

After finishing her design revisions, Charlotte decided to visit Declan and the others at the studio—they'd just returned from abroad.

She gathered her things and slipped down to the parking garage.

Just as she reached her car, someone suddenly grabbed her wrist tightly.

"Who—let go!"

Charlotte started to struggle, but a familiar male voice stopped her: "Charlotte, it's me."

Alexander?

Charlotte calmed down and turned to look at him: "We have nothing to do with each other anymore. What are you doing here?"

Alexander's face was twisted with pain: "Charlotte, I'm sorry—"

Charlotte stared in surprise.

Was this really the same Alexander who'd always acted so superior around her?

Before she could process what was happening, a tall figure appeared from nowhere—and sent Alexander flying several feet with a single punch.
