Chapter 158

Chapter 158

Before the words even left her mouth, two uniformed officers burst through the door.

"Is Calvin here?"

Calvin froze at the sight of them. "That's me."

The lead officer pulled out his badge and flashed it in front of Calvin. "Someone filed a complaint stating you directed others to spread false information online. You need to come with us for questioning."

Calvin's eyes widened.

Then it clicked. He turned around and glared at Charlotte. "Charlotte, you actually called the cops on me!"

With that, he lunged toward her.

Sensing the danger, Landon immediately stepped in front of Charlotte to shield her.

The two officers also sprang into action, pinning Calvin down. "Don't move! Stay still!"

Only then did Alexander snap out of it and rush forward. "Officers, this is a misunderstanding. My friend acted on impulse."

One of the officers recognized Alexander. He leaned over to whisper to his partner, and they eased their grip on Calvin.

"Mr. Alexander Forbes, we need to head back and write a report. We'll be on our way."

The officers escorted Calvin out.

Charlotte quietly said to Landon, "Landon, I was the one who called the police. I need to go give a statement too. I'll pick up Philip after I get back."

Landon looked at her calmly. "No rush. Take care of Ms. Hayes first. I'll have Steven bring Philip back in two days."

Charlotte shot him a grateful look and moved to follow the officers out.

But as she passed Alexander, he suddenly grabbed her wrist. "Charlotte, can we talk?"

The officer glanced between Charlotte and Alexander. "Ms. Charlotte Spencer, we'll head out first. Come by the station whenever you're ready to give your statement."

Charlotte thought it over and nodded.

Landon was behind them, watching without stepping in, his expression still calm.

Alexander's eyes flickered. "At the end of the day, you hurt Sabrina first. Calvin was only doing what he did because he wanted to stand up for her."

"Besides, Jenna wasn't seriously hurt this time. I can cover her medical expenses and compensation."

"And that post—I can make sure Calvin takes it down right away."

"Does that work for you?"

Even though Charlotte knew Alexander would take Calvin and Sabrina's side, hearing him actually say it still made anger flare up inside her.

Suppressing her rage, she asked coolly, "So by this logic, we're the ones getting the better end of the deal?"

Seeing Charlotte's defiant look, Alexander's eyes darkened. "Why can't you understand me? I know you've never liked me looking after Sabrina, but I made a promise to your father. I can't go back on my word."

"And Calvin—he's always treated Sabrina like family. He's spent even more time with her than I have."

Charlotte gave him a flat look. "What does any of this have to do with me?"

Alexander's voice, which had edged up slightly, leveled out again. "Fine. If you want to push this further, I won't stop you."

"It's just that without Calvin's help, I'll be the only one left to take care of Sabrina."

Alexander held her gaze. "You know what I mean."

Charlotte rolled her eyes.

Apparently, Alexander still thought she was just jealous, throwing a fit to get his attention and pull him away from Sabrina.

"Then I wish you luck with that."

With that, she didn't bother to look at Alexander again and turned to leave.

"Charlotte—" Something dark crossed Alexander's eyes as he moved to follow her, but a cry cut through from behind him.

Sabrina, who had been hovering quietly in the corner, was now clutching her chest. "Alexander, don't go. My chest hurts."

Alexander stopped in his tracks.

Landon walked past him and remarked, "Alexander, hang in there. Make sure you take good care of Sabrina."

The sarcasm landed, and Alexander's expression soured.

Still, he turned back to Sabrina. "Sabrina, take it easy. I'll get the doctor and get you moved to a new room."

Soon, the doctor arrived.

After Sabrina's examination, she was moved to a new room.

With Alexander's help, Sabrina settled in her new bed, tears welling up in her eyes. "Alexander, Calvin won't get in trouble, will he?"

Alexander said nothing.

He had already warned Calvin to leave Charlotte alone, but Calvin hadn't listened.

What's more, Landon was involved this time.

Watching Alexander's face, Sabrina suddenly burst into tears. "Alexander, I know Calvin was wrong this time. But he was just trying to get back at them for me."

"And it didn't do that much damage. Could you please—for the sake of our friendship with Calvin—try to help him?"

"You know, if Calvin's father finds out about this, the Wallace family business might end up in his illegitimate son's hands."

"You once said the three of us are inseparable, remember?"

Sabrina looked at Alexander, eyes pleading.

Small and fragile as she already was, she looked even more pitiful now and even harder to say no to.

Alexander's expression shifted several times before he finally reached out and ran his hand over her smooth hair. "Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to Calvin."

Under Alexander's hand, Sabrina lowered her eyes and curled her lip in disgust.

That idiot Calvin had screwed up again.

If it weren't for his decent family background and his complete devotion to her, she wouldn't lose any sleep over whether he lived or died.

Outside the hospital, Landon caught up to Charlotte. "Let me drive you to the police station."

Charlotte stopped. "Landon, you've been up all night helping me find Jenna. You should go home and get some rest. I can get to the station on my own."

Landon didn't insist, and just said quietly, "Alright. But if anything comes up, call me right away."

Charlotte nodded and got in a cab.

Landon watched until the cab rounded the corner.

Alexander had actually helped them come after Charlotte. It looked like he'd gotten too comfortable.

After giving her statement at the police station, Charlotte hurried back to the hospital, worried about Jenna.

But just as she stepped out of the elevator, someone suddenly grabbed her and puller her aside.
