Chapter 65
Lila looked at the two messages Chris had sent in a row and decided to reply.
[It's fine. What did you want to say?]
Chris didn't give a direct answer: [It's something important. How about I come find you tomorrow at noon and we can talk over lunch?]
Looking at his invitation to meet up, and thinking back to Alexander's attitude just now, she replied.
[Okay, let's meet tomorrow at noon then.]
Chris: [What would you like to eat?]
Lila: [Anything is fine.]
Chris: [Alright, I'll make a reservation tomorrow and send you the location.]
Lila didn't reply again. She put down her phone, leaned back on the sofa, and started thinking.
How was she going to die tomorrow?
The next day.
Near the end of breakfast, Alexander, who had been silent the whole time, asked, "Did you set it up?"
Lila was stunned for a moment, then realized he was talking about meeting Chris. She nodded glumly, "Yes."
After speaking, she carefully watched his expression.
Logically, since she'd done what he asked, he should be happy.
But somehow, Alexander's face looked even colder than before he'd asked.
Could it be that she shouldn't have agreed to meet?
Unable to figure it out, Lila ate her meal with her head down, feeling exhausted. Alexander's mind was truly impossible to read!
After breakfast, Lila went to the office with Alexander first.
After Alexander's morning meeting ended, he drove her to practice driving for two hours.
At ten o'clock, Lila received the restaurant address from Chris.
At noon when driving practice ended, Alexander forcibly ordered her to drive to the chosen restaurant.
With the feeling of heading to a battlefield to meet her doom, Lila successfully drove the car to the destination.
However, having driven twice now, she seemed much more familiar with it and much bolder. She had to admit, both practice and real experience were quite effective.
After getting out of the car, Lila glanced at Alexander and asked hesitantly, "Are you really going to meet my classmate with me?"
"Do you think I'm so free that I'd specially drive you here for nothing?"
"No, but when you meet my classmate, could you please try not to talk too much?"
Alexander's expression immediately darkened a degree, and he asked with displeasure, "What do you mean by that?"
Lila made something up: "Your presence is too intimidating. I'm afraid you'll scare him."
Alexander snorted coldly, "So concerned about him?"
Lila shook her head and tried to explain kindly, "No, it's mainly that I haven't seen this classmate in many years. Meeting again after so long, it wouldn't be good for anyone if things got too awkward, don't you think?"
Alexander's patience was wearing thin: "I'm asking, are you done being long-winded?"
Throwing that rhetorical question at her, he took the lead and walked toward the restaurant.
Lila sighed and followed with the resignation of someone facing death.
After entering the restaurant, she spotted Chris right away.
He was wearing a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up a bit and some buttons undone, paired with a matching crew-neck T-shirt underneath.
Chris sat by the window, seemingly admiring the view outside.
From Lila's angle, Chris's profile looked lean, his demeanor gentle. Even though they hadn't seen each other in four years, he still looked just like he did in high school—youthful and handsome.
Lila couldn't help feeling a bit nervous.
Alexander watched her hesitant and cautious manner, his brow furrowing with displeasure: "Is that him?"
Lila snapped back to attention. Looking at him, she said softly, "Yes."
After saying that word, she walked past Alexander toward Chris.
Alexander's expression immediately turned several degrees colder, a cold smile appearing on his face.
Right in front of him, she couldn't wait to go flirt with an old flame?
Did she think he was dead or something?
While Alexander was fuming inside, Lila had already reached Chris's side and greeted him with a smile: "Chris, long time no see."
