Chapter 14
She wasn't sure if Alexander had actually listened to her, but surprisingly, he didn't interrupt.
Lila didn't dwell on it and struck while the iron was hot with her conclusion. "You've been eating too much of your fancy organic breakfast. Trying some outside breakfast once in a while and experiencing how your employees live—that counts as showing care for your subordinates, right?"
Alexander knew full well she was making things up, but seeing that careful, tentative look on the girl's delicate face, he looked back at the so-called "breakfast" again.
Lila eagerly walked behind him to pull out his chair, then looked at him with a guiding suggestion. "Why don't you sit down and try it?"
Alexander shot her a look.
But he sat down anyway.
Lila placed the cheeseburger in front of him and handed him the coffee.
To successfully get through this breakfast ordeal, Lila enthusiastically pitched it to Alexander like a salesperson. "The cheese in the cheeseburger melts over the juicy patty, creating rich layers of flavor. Just one bite and you'll definitely want more."
Alexander dismissed her exaggerated introduction with disdain, even letting out a cold snort.
Still, he picked up the cheeseburger.
Alexander looked at the burger—with its various sauces, patty, and pickles stacked together—with the contemptuous gaze of a king, then finally, with a let's-give-it-a-try attitude, elegantly lifted the burger to his mouth.
Lila stood to the side with a slight smile.
His words were stubborn, but his body was honest. He said she was playing him, but wasn't he eating it obediently anyway?
She didn't believe that after eating this burger, he wouldn't like it!
Watching Alexander take a bite and his Adam's apple bob as he swallowed, Lila carefully asked. "How is it? Pretty good, right?"
Alexander glanced at her expressionlessly.
She dropped her smile. "Is it... not good?"
"Edible." He gave a reluctant evaluation like an emperor passing judgment.
Then he put it back on the table. "But I'm warning you, starting tomorrow, don't even think about brushing me off with this store-bought breakfast again, or else..."
Leaving it at that, the man didn't continue but instead looked at her with a rather dangerous expression.
Lila got it immediately. "Don't worry, there definitely won't be a next time. I actually wanted to cook for you today, but first, your secretary hasn't sent me this week's menu yet, and second, the supermarket outside wasn't open."
Alexander turned a deaf ear, glanced at the other food on the table, picked up the plastic bag containing the hot dog, and started eating it with interest.
Lila breathed a sigh of relief and sat down to eat too.
She was really scared of him.
Having dealt with breakfast, Lila soon faced a new problem—being the driver.
In the courtyard of Island Mansion, by the Rolls-Royce.
Alexander had one hand in his pants pocket, using the other to unlock the car with the key fob, and said indifferently. "Charlie has been doubling as a driver recently. Since you've officially started work now, you'll drive today."
Lila, now transformed into a working person. "Got it, boss."
The word "boss" made Alexander glance at her sideways.
Almost everyone at the Sinclair Group called him "Mr. Sinclair." She was the first to call him boss.
Truly someone who came from the streets.
Alexander handed her the keys. "Get in the car."
Lila looked at the car key with hesitation.
Was it too late to say she'd never driven a car before?!
Alexander's car obviously wasn't cheap. What if she crashed it on her first day of work? Would the company reimburse her?
Unfortunately, Alexander's patience really wasn't great. In just the moment she hesitated and zoned out, he was already impatiently calling her. "Lila!"
Lila instantly snapped back. "I'm here."
Alexander glanced at her. "I told you to get in the car. Are you deaf?"
She anxiously took the car key, hesitated several times, but still wanted to come clean. "Boss, actually I..."
