Chapter 128
"Honey, here are your files. I've put them here for you." Lila reminded him.
He grunted in response.
She set down the files and turned to walk toward the study door, but before she'd taken more than a few steps, Alexander's voice came from behind her, "Where are you going?"
When Lila turned around, Alexander was tapping ash from his cigarette.
Alexander leaned back in his office chair, looking lazy yet elegant. Combined with his handsome, stern face, he looked like a pleasing painting—a masterpiece, even.
"I'm going to get my teaching certification exam books." Looking at the attractive man before her, Lila stumbled over her words.
He patiently tapped the cigarette with the butt, shaking off the ash that had already fallen, and said in a low voice, "Bring the books here. Study in the study."
"Okay." Lila replied.
After answering, she turned and left the study.
As she closed the door, Lila suddenly felt her face getting a bit hot.
Before, she'd only focused on Alexander's tight-lipped mouth and hadn't noticed how charming he was.
Just now, after looking at him a couple more times, she realized he was really good-looking.
Lila suddenly felt a bit restless inside.
She'd always known that the world had no shortage of excellent men—some exceptionally handsome, some with extraordinary presence, some with amazing abilities.
But Alexander managed to combine all these qualities, blending them together and radiating a masculine charm that was uniquely his own.
This charm had a wide range, long reach, and massive impact.
This kind of man was now her husband, and would continue to be her husband for many more months.
Lila began to wonder whether she could maintain her restraint and not be seduced by his good looks.
When she returned to the study with her books, she had calmed down somewhat.
There was only one desk in the study. Lila, holding her books, walked properly to the desk and looked at Alexander, "Where should I study?"
Alexander didn't say anything.
However, he knocked his knuckles twice on the left side of the desk, where about a third of the space was empty.
"That close to you? Won't I disturb your work?"
"With your looks, you're not quite there yet."
Lila felt helpless.
She was very pretty, okay?
Whatever, she couldn't be bothered to argue with him.
Lila went to get a chair, placed it next to him, sat down beside Alexander, opened her "Comprehensive Quality" book to where she'd left off, picked up a highlighter in her right hand, and continued reading.
When the study quieted down, Alexander glanced sideways at Lila.
She had long eyelashes, fair skin, and hair in the standard good-girl configuration—natural color, shoulder-length.
Since getting their marriage certificate, he'd hardly looked at this Mrs. Sinclair up close in such a quiet setting, so only now did he realize that she actually wasn't annoying.
However, whenever he thought about how this woman was the Mrs. Sinclair his grandmother had forced on him, he felt extremely frustrated.
Marrying Lila was the first time in his life he understood what compromise meant.
Two years had passed, and he still didn't know what had happened during the time he was in a coma after the car accident, how Celeste had been forced away, or what she'd been going through all these years.
Alexander irritably raised his hand and pressed his temples repeatedly.
Suddenly, he spoke in a commanding tone, "Lila, answer me a question."
Lila, who'd been reading, looked up in confusion, her eyes bewildered as she looked at him, "What question? Go ahead."
Alexander turned to meet her gaze, "About the child."
Lila immediately backed down.
Because she felt that whenever she and Alexander talked about the "child" issue, he would get angry.
