Chapter 236
After the rhetorical question, Alexander sneered coldly, "The Sinclair Group's lobby is full of people coming and going. Why did you bump into Wesley's arms? Don't tell me it was just a coincidence. "
It really was a coincidence.
But he didn't believe her, so what could she do?
Lila looked at him with fearful eyes, pressing her lips together slightly, looking pitiful.
Seeing her like that, Alexander narrowed his eyes and reminded her, "I'm asking you a question."
She knew that.
But she didn't know what to say.
Lila pressed her lips together. After hesitating for a moment, she carefully reached out and tugged at the corner of his clothes a couple of times. Her almond-shaped eyes looked into Alexander's as she spoke in a soft voice, "You're my husband. We've been married for a while now. Don't I deserve even a little bit of your trust?"
He glanced at her hand gripping his clothes, then moved his gaze to her face, answering her question with another question, "What do you think?"
Lila took a roundabout approach, "Even if you don't trust me, you should trust yourself."
He frowned, looking at her leisurely, "What do you mean by that?"
She argued cleverly, "You're the CEO of the Sinclair Group. That Mr. Morris is just the executive president of Washington Tech. Washington Tech still relies on investment from the Sinclair Group. Why would I deliberately bump into Mr. Morris's arms? I might as well bump into yours."
"Is that so?"
"You're better than him, more handsome than him, richer than him, and taller than him too. There's no reason for me to throw myself at someone who's worse than my husband in every way, right? Honey, even I understand such a simple truth. You must understand it too, right?"
Alexander scoffed disdainfully, "That sounds nice, but when Wesley gave you his business card, didn't you still take it?"
"I didn't want to take it at the time," she said immediately.
After speaking, she added, "He insisted on giving it to me. I thought since he's a business partner of the Sinclair Group, I shouldn't embarrass him. What if it ruined your business deal? That wouldn't be good. So I reluctantly took it. But as soon as he left, didn't I give you the card right away?"
Alexander looked at her without saying anything.
After all, it was true that she had voluntarily handed him the business card.
Seeing his sharp gaze showing signs of softening, Lila immediately raised her fist and promised seriously, "Honey, I swear I don't have any extra feelings for him. I promise I didn't bump into him on purpose. If what I'm saying is false, then punish me by making me be your wife forever. Is that enough?"
Alexander's expression had originally softened a bit.
But when he heard the punishment she spoke of, his face immediately darkened considerably.
Alexander practically ground out her name through clenched teeth, "Lila!"
She immediately became like a startled bird, saying weakly, "I'm here, honey. What's wrong?"
He suddenly raised his hand, gripping her chin with the space between his right thumb and index finger, tightening his hold as he looked down at her, "Being my wife is your honor, not a punishment. Got it?"
Lila was forced to look up and meet his gaze. Although her chin hurt from his grip, she still asked, "So do you believe me now?"
Alexander hadn't expected her to still have the presence of mind to pursue the question they'd been discussing earlier. He frowned for a moment and said coldly and sarcastically, "You're really good at focusing on what matters."
She said pitifully, "I just don't want you to doubt me."
He narrowed his eyes, studying her for several seconds before suddenly releasing his grip on her chin. He looked down at her left hand and, seeing her ring finger was bare, his sharp eyes fixed on hers as he demanded, "Didn't you buy a ring? Why aren't you wearing it?"
