Chapter 218
After Alexander finished ordering, Lila watched him hand the menu to the waiter before turning to look at her.
In that instant, their eyes met .
Lila instinctively looked away, her gaze shifting as if she had been caught doing something wrong.
Alexander chuckled softly. "What are you avoiding?"
She replied stubbornly, "I'm not avoiding anything."
He leaned back in his chair and studied her leisurely, even offering her an excuse. "I'm your husband. You can look at me whenever you want, for as long as you want. That's your privilege."
Lila glanced at him. "I was just spacing out. I wasn't trying to look at you."
After speaking, she reached for the glass of water beside her and took a sip, pretending to ease her nerves.
Alexander exposed her without hesitation. "You're lying."
Lila couldn't think of anything to say back.
Fine, she wouldn't argue.
"I'm going to the restroom. Wait here for me,” he said.
"Okay," Lila responded, and watched as Alexander stood and left the private room.
Once the door closed, she let out a long breath, finally relaxing a little.
While waiting, she took out her phone and sent Elara a message.
Lila: [Elara, my husband suddenly brought me to this fancy restaurant today. I don’t know what he’s up to. It’s kind of scary.]
Elara: [Is this his way of being nice? He's probably attracted to your pretty face and wants to kiss you, hold you, and do more things with you.]
Lila: [We've already kissed and hugged, but honestly, him being so nice to me all of a sudden—I'm really not used to it.]
Elara: [WOW, so have you guys slept together?]
Lila: [No! We're not at that point yet!]
Elara: [You will be! Just get used to Mr. Sinclair being nice to you. Trust me, your good luck is still ahead!]
What good luck?
They were getting divorced in a year anyway. Even if Alexander was temporarily nicer to her, she could only treat it as a pleasant dream. Dreams always ended. She had to stay rational.
She heard a sound—the door to the private room being pushed open.
Lila assumed Alexander had returned and instinctively turned to look.
It was indeed him.
But there was something mysterious about the way he was looking at her.
After entering, Alexander closed the door and walked toward her with long strides.
Lila turned back, waiting for him to approach.
Then, suddenly, a bouquet of roses appeared in front of her.
At the same time, Alexander’s deep voice sounded beside her. “Mrs. Sinclair, these are for you.”
She was so surprised that she stood up from her seat.
Lila didn't take the flowers. Instead, she stepped back twice and looked at him warily. "Boss, why are you giving me flowers? This is scary."
"Are the flowers scary? Or am I scary?” he asked calmly.
“Neither. It’s you giving me flowers that’s scary.”
Alexander's lips curved slightly as he moved closer to her.
Lila instinctively stepped back until he caught her hand.
Alexander gave her a look, gesturing for her to look at the bouquet in his hand.
She glanced down. The roses were vibrant, accented with delicate white baby’s breath. They were beautiful.
If she accepted them, it would be the first time she had ever received flowers.
But they were from Alexander. That made everything feel strange.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" he asked.
Lila snapped out of her thoughts and looked up at him. "They are beautiful, but why are you giving them to me?"
Alexander’s deep blue eyes held a quiet intensity, drawing her gaze so she couldn’t look away.
His low voice carried sincerity as he said, "Mrs. Sinclair, I apologize for my terrible attitude toward you when we first got our marriage certificate. From today on, I hope we can have a fresh start."
He extended the bouquet toward her. "What do you say?"
