Chapter 40 IS HE JEALOUS?

Chapter 40 IS HE JEALOUS?
ZARA'S POV:
“I am not,” I assured her but of course, I wasn’t so sure about it. “Anyway, thank you very much for treating me with this makeover.”

“I wish I could see your husband’s reaction one he sees you now,” she stated.

“Or maybe, he wouldn’t notice at all. As you have said, he proposed to Giselle.”

“And why do you sound so sad about it?”

“I’m not sad, okay? Why would I be? Lucas and I were over,” I told her. “Anyway, as much as I want to have a chat with you right now, I need to pick up my son from school,” I told her while checking my watch.

She nodded. “Go ahead. But don’t forget to call me later.”

“Sure. See you when I see you, then.”

But before I could leave, I got a call from Lucas that he already picked up Ken from the school and he was asking my whereabouts. I told him I was still in Antoinette’s place. He said he would come pick me up.

“I guess I have to leave my car here today,” I told Antoinette after the call.

“What’s the matter?”

“Lucas is coming to pick me up,” I replied.

“Oh, really?”

I just nodded but when I glanced at Antoinette, she looked like she was hiding something from me. “Are you trying to tell me something?”

“No.”

“Okay. I’m leaving now.”

I just got out of the house when someone called me. I thought it was Lucas but then my eyes widened when I saw Nick walking toward me. I didn’t expect to see him outside as if he was waiting for me.

“Nick! What are you doing here?”

“Antoinette said you are here so I thought of catching old times, you know what I mean, right?”

I nodded. “I wish I could join but my husband is coming here to pick me up,” I told him and he looked disappointed.

I wanted to tell him that we could hang out next time, the three of us, but I heard  the sound of an approaching car. When I glanced up, I saw my husband’s car approaching the driveway, and as soon as he pulled over, he lowered the window.

“Zara, come on!” he called.

I bit my bottom lip. “Sorry, Nick. I’ll just call you later, okay? Ken is with him right now,” I tried to explain but Lucas called my name again.

Quickly, I got into the car. I smiled at Lucas but he just ignored me. Then he gestured for me to put on my seatbelt. I glanced at Ken who was sleeping in his seat before complying to his order.

“I'm so-”

I screamed loudly before I could finish my statement because Lucas decided to show off his driving skills.  I glared at Lucas, but he didn't care that I was mad at what he did.

My soul almost left my body when he sped up the car. He didn't even care that we could have had an accident because of what he did!

When we arrived at home, I still felt annoyed with him. “How could you drive like that knowing that Ken was there? What if there was an accident?”

“Don't I have the right to be mad?” Lucas retaliated with a question.

“You do, but not like this. You can get mad at me but don’t you dare endanger our son’s life because you are fucking angry!”

“So, that’s where you are meeting that bastard,” he concluded.

“What do you mean? Nick just arrived when I got out of Antoinette’s house. My god, how dare you accuse me of cheating?”

“Aren’t you?”

“No. I’m not like you, Lucas. I don’t cheat my way out of this relationship,” I told him.

He smirked. “Is that so? Tell me, Zara. Do you like that bastard as a man?”

I gritted my teeth. “Will you please stop calling Nick a bastard? For your information, he is much better than you, Lucas.”

“So, do you have feelings for him?” he asked again.

“Nope. Why would I have feelings for my friend?”

For a few seconds, he just stared at me and didn't say anything. “Ex-lovers can never be friends, Zara,” Lucas said.

“He is not my ex-lover!” I exclaimed in frustration.

“Oh really, Zara? In case you have forgotten, we went to the same university and he was always by your side,” he reminded me.

“It’s because he is my friend!”

He chuckled. “How naïve. Do you really think that a man just wanted to be friends with a woman? Silly girl,” he remarked.
