CHAPTER 173
THIRD PERSON'S POV
The week at home was a lesson in patience and effort. Kieran's body was getting better. The process was slow and the improvements small.
Every day brought wins a longer walk, a stronger grip, a moment of clear thinking that reminded him of the person he used to be.
There were also problems, times of anger, of being tired, of the pressure, of healing weighing on him.
Elysia was always with him helping him supporting him and being happy for him. She was his support, his strength, his reason to keep going.
The physical therapist came three times a week pushing him gently but firmly. "You're doing great, Mr. D'Angelo!" She would say, her tone uplifting. "But you need to be patient. Your body has been through a lot."
Kieran would nod, his jaw tight with courage. "I know. I'm not stopping."
The mornings were the toughest. Kieran would wake up stiff his muscles hurting from the day. He would lie in bed, looking at the ceiling, the burden of recovery on his shoulders.
Elysia would be there, her voice gentle. "Good morning. How are you feeling?"
"Like, I've been hit by a vehicle!" He would say, his voice dry. "Which I guess is right."
She would laugh, a sound that always made him feel better. "Well, I made breakfast. Hope is already asking when you're going to play with her."
He would smile, the idea of his daughter giving him the strength to start the day. "Tell her I'll be there soon."
The afternoons were a mix of therapy and rest. Kieran would push himself through his exercises his will not wavering.
He would walk across the house the garden, then the path to the lake. Every step was a win a reminder that he was becoming stronger.
Elysia would walk with him her hand in his her voice an encouragement. "You're doing well. I'm really proud of you."
He would stop, his breath coming in gasps. "I'm not giving up. I'm getting better. For you. For Hope. For our baby."
She would hold his hand, her eyes shining. "I know you will. I believe in you."
The evenings were the calmest. They would sit on the porch watching the sunset paint the sky with colors of orange and pink.
The lake was calm the world peaceful. Kieran would rest against Elysia, his head on her shoulder her hand in his.
"Kieran," She would say, her voice soft. "Do you ever think about the future? About what comes "
He would be quiet for a moment his eyes on the horizon. "I think about it all the time. About watching Hope grow up. About holding our baby. About growing old with you."
She would smile, her heart full. "That's all I ever wanted. A future with you."
He would look at her his eyes full of love. "And that's exactly what you're going to get."
Hope was a source of happiness. She would come to see him every day her voice a mix of questions and thoughts.
"Papa, can you walk yet?" She asked with excitement.
"Almost, sweetheart. I'm getting stronger every day." Kieran answered as he patted her head.
"Papa, can you play with me?" Hope asked again.
"Not yet. Soon. I promise." He says with sadness, that he couldn't do what his daughter asked.
"Papa, do you want to see my picture?" She runs to get her drawings and come back to him.
"Of course, I do. I always want to see your pictures."
She would climb onto the bed next to him her small body curled next to his. He would put his arm around her his heart full.
"Papa!" She would say, her voice soft. "I'm happy you're home."
He would kiss her forehead. "I'm happy I'm home too sweetheart. I missed you much."
The nights were the hardest. Kieran would lie awake his mind of the process of healing. He would think about the accident, about the truck, about the darkness that had taken him.
He would think about Elysia about her strength, her love, her belief in him.
She would move beside him her voice gentle. "Can't sleep?"
He would look at her his eyes of deep feelings. "I keep thinking about everything. About what happened. About what might have happened."
She would reach for his hand her fingers joining his. "But It didn't. You're here. You're alive. You're healing."
He would nod, his throat tight. "I know. I'm thankful. I'm so thankful for you. For everything."
She would lean over kissing his lips. "I'm thankful too. Now try to sleep. Tomorrow is a day."
The days went by the progress, slow but steadily. Kieran's strength came back, his body healed and his spirit lifted. He was determined to get better to return to his family to be the husband and father they needed.
Elysia was, with him every step of the way. She was his support, his strength, his reason to keep fighting. Together they faced the future with hope and love.
The first week home was the start, a base on which they would build their future. There would be challenges, problems, times of anger. They would face them together with their love, a constant source of strength.
The nightmare was over. The future was theirs.
