CHAPTER 174
THIRD PERSON'S POV

The morning of the doctor's visit came with warmth and brightness, the sun shining with a light over the lake house. Elysia had been awake for a time, her thoughts full of excitement.

Today was the day they would see the baby for the first ultrasound, the very first time they would look at the life growing inside her.

Kieran had made sure to come, his excitement hard to hide. "I wouldn’t miss this for anything." He had said, his voice certain. "I want to see our baby."

Hope had been just as excited, her voice always asking questions. "Mama, will I be able to see the baby? Will I be able to see their face? Will they wave at me?"

Elysia smiled, her heart full. "I don’t know, sweetheart. We will find out together."

The drive to the doctor’s office was filled with conversation. Hope sat in the seat, her voice a happy sound. Kieran was beside her his hand on her belly, a comfort.

"Are you nervous?" He asked, his voice gentle.

"A little." She admitted. "I want everything to be okay. I want the baby to be healthy."

He squeezed her hand. "Everything is going to be fine. I feel it."

She smiled, her heart full of love. "I know. I just can’t help worrying."

The doctor’s office was bright and warm, the walls a soft blue, the chairs comfortable. Hope sat between them, her little legs bouncing, her voice full of questions.

"Papa, when will the baby come?" She asked with excitement.

"Soon sweetheart. Very soon." Kieran answered with a smile seeing his daughter’s face.

"Will they be a boy or a girl?"

"We don’t know yet. We will find out today." He answered again.

Hope’s eyes grew wide with excitement. "Really? We will find out today?"

Kieran smiled, his heart full. "Really. We will find out today."

The ultrasound was a surprise. The technician put the gel on Elysia’s belly, her voice kind and calm. "You are going to see your baby. Are you ready?"

Elysia nodded, her hand holding Kieran’s. "We are ready."

The screen came to life. There it was, a tiny shape, curled and perfect its heart beating in a steady rhythm. Elysia felt tears in her eyes, her voice a whisper. "That’s our baby."

Kieran leaned in his eyes on the screen. "They are so small. So perfect."

Hope climbed onto the chair beside her mother, her eyes wide with wonder. "Is that the baby? They are so tiny!"

The technician smiled, her voice warm. "Would you like to know the gender?"

Elysia looked at Kieran, her eyes searching his eyes. "Do you want to know?"

He nodded, his voice full of emotion. "I want to know everything."

The technician studied the screen, her voice soft. "Congratulations! You are having a boy."

Elysia felt a rush of emotion, her tears falling freely. "A boy. We are having a boy."

Kieran leaned over pressing a kiss to her forehead. "A son. We are having a son."

Hope clapped her hands, her voice full of excitement. "I am going to have a baby brother! I am going to teach him everything!"

Elysia laughed, a sound of happiness. "Yes, sweetheart. You are going to be the best big sister."

The rest of the day was filled with celebration. They stopped for ice cream on the way home, Hope’s excitement catching. They called family and friends sharing the news, their voices full of joy.

"William, we are having a boy!" Kieran said, his voice warm. "You are going to have a nephew."

William’s voice was full of emotion. "That is wonderful, Kieran. I am so happy for you."

Elizabeth was beside him, happy, her voice a bright chorus of congratulations. "A boy! A grandson! I am going to spoil him rotten!"

Thomas’s voice was gruff. His pride was clear. "That is my boy."

The evening brought a moment just the two of them. They sat on the porch watching the sunset paint the sky in colors of orange and pink. The lake was still, the world was peaceful.

"Kieran," Elysia said, her voice soft. "I never thought we would be here. I never thought we would have this."

He turned to look at her his eyes full of love. "Neither did I. But we do. We have each other. We have our family. We have our son."

She leaned into him, her head on his shoulder. "I love you."

"I love you too." He pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Now and forever."

The night grew darker, the stars appearing one by one. Hope was asleep, her small body curled around Sophie on the princess sized bed. The house was quiet and the world was peaceful.

Kieran held Elysia in his arms, his hand on her belly. He could feel the baby moving a flutter of life that made his breath catch.

"I can’t wait to meet him!" He whispered, his voice soft. "I can’t wait to hold him."

She smiled, her heart full. "He is going to be like his father."

"I hope not." He said, his voice light. "I don’t want him to have to go through everything I did."

She turned to look at him, her eyes shining. "He is going to be strong. Just like his father. He is going to be brave. Just like his father. He is going to be loved. Just like his father."

He pulled her closer, his lips pressing against her forehead. "I love you."

"I love you too." She settled against him, her eyes closing. "Now and forever"

The weeks passed and the excitement growing. The nursery was ready, the walls painted a blue, the furniture put together with care. Hope had claimed a corner of the room, her small chair a place.

"This is where I am going to read to him!" She said, her voice firm. "I am going to teach him everything."

Elysia smiled beautifully, her heart full. "I know you will, sweetheart. I know you will."

Kieran stood in the doorway, his eyes on the scene before him. His family. His future. His heart was full.

"Elysia," He said, his voice soft. "Thank you. For everything."

She turned to look at him, her eyes searching his. "What do you mean?"

"For giving me this. For giving me a family. For giving me a reason to keep going." He walked over his arms wrapping around her. "I love you. I love you so much."

She melted into his embrace, her voice soft. "I love you too. Now and forever."

The baby’s arrival was near, the excitement a presence. Elysia had stopped working, her focus on the birth of the life that was about to come into the world.

Kieran was by her side, his support never ending, his love there.

"I am nervous." She said one evening, her voice quiet. "I know I have done this before. I am still nervous."

He took her hand and his grip strong. "You are going to be amazing. You are the person I know."

She smiled, her heart full. "Thank you. I needed to hear that."

"You are going to be a mother!" He continued. "Just like you are to Hope. I am going to be right here every step of the way."

She leaned into him, her eyes closing. "I love you."

"I love you too." He pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Now and forever."

The night before the birth they sat on the porch watching the stars. The lake was still, the world peaceful. Kieran's arm was around her body, his hand on her belly.

"Are you ready?" He asked, his voice gentle.

"I am ready." She said, her voice strong. "I am ready to meet our son."

He smiled, his heart full. "I am ready too."

They sat in the quiet of the evening, their hands joined, their hearts full. The future was bright, full of promise and hope. They were ready to face it together.
