CHAPTER 48: MUCH NEEDED
Fabian.
What I wanted to do was lie on that couch, completely naked with Myla, for the rest of the day. We had exhausted ourselves and were now resting. There was an air of satisfied contentment for the both of us and to me, the only thing that could add to the perfection of the hour or so, was more time with her. I wasn’t sure how long we’d spent having sex. Long enough for us both to need a rest, that was for sure.
“That was incredible,” Myla whispered. She had a dreamy quality to her voice, like she was half asleep.
“Incredible doesn’t seem adequate enough to me but yes, I would agree,” I whispered back to her. I reveled in the way her naked body felt against mine. All soft and supple. It made my dick start to twitch again just thinking about it.
“You want to go again? Already?” Myla asked, noticing the movement.
I kissed the top of her head and hugged her closer to me. The answer was yes, absolutely. I would love nothing better than to just waste the rest of the day spending time with her, whether that was just lying here talking or having sex (preferably the latter). But unfortunately, that wasn’t in the cards for me today. Work needed to be done. Still, there was a part of me that wanted to ignore my responsibilities and just have a day to myself. With everything that happened in recent weeks, I’m sure no one would begrudge me for taking some time away from the job. Hell, there were quite a few of them that were practically demanding I take a break. Adrianna for one. Barry, my COO. A couple others on Golden Time’s board.
Maybe I should?
“I want nothing more but I'm still playing catch up and need to make sure a few items are dealt with,” I told her.
“You look like you had to think real hard about it first,” she said with a pleased smile.
“To be honest, being with you is a much better prospect but there are important tasks that need attending to. But you are incredibly…addictive,” I explained. She looked up at me from her spot lying on my chest. Those intense, blue eyes of hers locked onto mine and I felt myself falling into them. “But in a good way.”
I leaned down, somewhat awkwardly thanks to the position, and managed to kiss her. It was meant to be a soft, quick thing but it went on for a lot longer than I originally intended. I could feel Myla pressing closer to me, her hands sliding along my chest and lower torso. One of her legs slid up mine. My dick started to do more than just twitch. It went erect and hard. I could feel it throbbing, practically screaming at me to have sex again.
“Maybe…,” I said, my voice back to being more of a deep-throated whisper. “Maybe just a few more minutes couldn’t hurt.”
That was all she needed to hear apparently. Her hand reached down and immediately started to jerk up and down. My body instantly reacted to her touch. I let out a throaty gasp, my body arching upward slightly. She smiled up at me before kissing my chest. There’d been a definite hunger in her eyes that fed my own desire.
“I’m glad you feel that way,” she told me.
Then she climbed on top of me again.
For a guy that just got shot and attacked, I still couldn’t understand how I’d gotten so damn lucky.

Eventually, and regrettably, the two of us were finally forced to admit we had to stop and return to work. My phone had been blowing up the last several minutes with emails, texts, and other alerts. It was a very intrusive reminder that there was still a world out there we had to get back to. I might not like it, and Myla definitely didn’t, but it was an unfortunate truth.
I finished putting my shirt back on and as I did, I eyed with obvious appreciation as Myla rose naked from the couch and started to get dressed as well. I slipped on my pants next, tucked in my shirt, and adjusted everything so it looked presentable. That was a bit hard to do with the gorgeous, naked woman in front of me putting her clothes back on at the same time.
“I find myself having trouble looking away from you,” I said with a chuckle.
She started to blush and I couldn’t help grabbing on to her and giving her yet another kiss. It was hard to resist but this time I forced myself to not let it evolve into something else. I pulled away from her and saw that her blush had deepened.
“What was that for?” she asked.
“That was a ‘just because’ kind of kiss.” I smiled at her and then adjusted my tie.
“I like that,” she said.
We spent the next few moments finishing up redressing and then, we left the room. Myla’s secret spot. I wondered idly what might be going on with her that she even needed a space like that. A place where she could go to be by herself. I hoped it wasn’t something connected with me or the contract. It made me wonder if I was putting too much pressure on her. Was the contract a bad idea?
There were other things like that going through my head but I tried very hard to push them away. I don’t make a habit out of second guessing myself. I approached nearly every decision I’ve made in my life with care and precision. Pros and cons were carefully weighed and measured. When I finally decided on a course of action, I was confident it was the correct one. That, however, was a logical way to live my life. It had everything to do with the mind. Every decision with Myla was almost instinctual, not logical. They were consistently made with that part of the brain absent from the process.
And I liked it.
There was a sort of relief to letting my heart (if that’s what you want to call it) make the decisions for once. Agonizing over every little thing before being able to make a decision was, in and of itself, very akin to torture. It can be very…tiresome. Taking that part out of the equation was kind of like a vacation almost.
“Ready?” I asked.
“Ready,” Myla replied.
With that, we finally left that room. It was time to head back to the real world, I guess you could say. The world full of responsibilities and such. We laughed as we headed back up to the main floor where our offices were located. Working on growing my various companies was a true passion of mine but sequestering myself in my office for the rest of the day suddenly felt oppressive. On a whim, I decided all those emails and alerts could wait a bit longer.
“I’m going to head down to the lobby for a coffee. Would you like to come with me?” I asked as I opened the door from the stairwell to the offices.
“Yes. It’s always going to be yes whenever it’s a chance to spend more time with you.” She smiled but the smile didn’t last nearly long enough for me. “But, I really should finish up my current project. The CEO really likes to…work me.”
She gave me a wink when she said that and I laughed.
“And, if you don’t mind, I’d like to hang out with Sophia for a bit. We haven’t been able to spend that much time together and I want to make sure she doesn’t think I’m ignoring her again,” she said.
“I think that sounds like a fantastic idea,” I replied. I meant it too. It was important to have friends and while Sophia was a bit more…eccentric…than I preferred, I knew she cared a lot about Myla. And Myla cared a lot about her. I wasn’t about to stand in the way of that. “The both of you should have some fun. Enjoy yourselves.”
“Thank you,” she replied.
I watched Myla walk away, heading toward her office. My eyes lingered on her until she disappeared down a side hallway. Before I could leave to continue my extensive break, I happened to catch sight of Adrianna out of the corner of my eye. She saw me and immediately started walking toward me. There seemed to be something urgent in the way she sought me out. Hopefully, I thought to myself, not too urgent. I really didn’t want to get bogged down with more work at the moment. My heart just wasn’t in it.
“Mr. Ness,” Adrianna called, even waving me down.
I debated for a few moments on what I should do. I’m not proud of it, but the option to just run away was nestled among my thoughts. Finally, I took a deep breath, and figured I would just see what she had for me. If it was something I didn’t want to deal with, I’d just leave.
“Hello, Mrs. Cole. What can I do for you?” I asked her.
She came up to me and I saw her eyes jump to different parts of me, taking note of the various inconsistencies with my clothes. She was highly detailed, that woman. I’m sure she easily saw that I had hastily redressed myself and not everything was in order as they normally would be. This was confirmed a second later by a tiny smirk.
“Uh…on second thought, never mind. It’s okay. You can address this later,” she replied. There was amusement in her eyes. No doubt she was happy about me actually doing something other than diving headfirst into work. “If you need a few minutes, you should take them.”
“It’s fine,” I replied. “I feel you have something urgent to discuss with me?”
“Nothing that can’t wait if you need to take some more…uh…time,” she replied.
“Mrs. Cole,” I responded, my voice getting an impatient edge to it. That seemed to deflate her amused mood a bit and she finally relented.
“Mr. Parker has been calling for you. He said it was important,” she replied.
“Okay. Put him on the line. I’ll take the call in my office,” I told her.
She gave me a curt nod and then the two of us walked back over to my office. Adrianna’s desk sat just outside of my door and I couldn't help but think of her as some sort of highly trained guard, refusing entry to my domain unless you have an appointment or were called to the office by myself, personally. Of course, Douglas Duncan had been able to sneak past but only because he’d clearly waited for the right moment. I didn’t hold that against Adrianna, though. It wasn’t her fault. But that was, thankfully, all in the past now and while the trauma will linger, I could rest easy knowing that the man wasn’t going to be a problem anymore.
I sat down and a second after I did, my phone rang. I picked it up before it could ring a second time.
“What the hell is happening over there?”
Barry, my COO, was a no-nonsense sort of guy. He had a very hard exterior and an even harder interior but once you get to know him…well…truth be told, he is even less tolerable. But he knew how to get things done and was ruthless when he had to be. I was the only one that could tame that particular monster but I rarely had to. Despite being quite hard, he wasn’t unreasonable. If you mess up, he made sure to let you know what you needed to do so you didn’t make that mistake again. It was an effective system and most people came out better and more capable because of it.
“I’ve got everything under control, Barry. Trust me,” I said. I’ve been expecting this call for quite a while now and thought it would’ve come after I’d gotten shot. But that call had been one friend calling another friend to make sure they were okay. This one was one friend calling another friend to figure out why everything was devolving into utter chaos.
“You sure?” he asked. There was a weird softness to the question and actual concern in his voice. Barry wasn’t a sentimental type either but every once in a while, I caught him being just that.
“Yes. The investigation into the attack has concluded and they’ve determined there is no longer a threat to myself or anyone here,” I assured him.
“You were shot, Fabian. And then attacked at gunpoint. A man died right in front of you. And then there’s George and what he…well, you know. I’m worried about you. Maybe you should come back. I can fly out tomorrow and finish everything up with Roseforce. You shouldn’t be there right now. Not with everything you’ve been through.” Barry’s voice was strained and for the first time in our history together, I heard a different side of him.
“Look, I promise, everything is fine and we should be done here in the next few days. I’ll appoint a director to take over and we’ll fly back. I understand your hesitation but it’s fine now,” I said. “Now I’m going to get off of here and go down for a coffee break. If you need anything, Mrs. Cole will help.”
“It’s Adrianna, Fabian. It’s annoying when you’re so formal all the time,” he shot back. “But I’m glad you’re taking a break. That’s weird and out of character for you but I’m going to ignore that for now. Go. Rest up and relax.”
“Yeah. I think I can actually take that advice now,” I replied, thinking of the incredible time spent with Myla not long ago.
“Good,” Barry replied. “I’m here if you need me. Bye, Fabian.”
“Bye,” I said.
Then I hung up. As soon as I did, I got up from my desk, left my office and headed down to the lobby. That feeling of contentment was still inside me. That ended almost as soon as I got out of the elevator and noticed Grace Steyner sitting at Beanery Row.
