Chapter 439 Virgil Surrendered
Chapter 439 Virgil Surrendered
Two major events went down today. First off, Ruby and Dylan made their relationship official. They showed up in front of the media, all lovey-dovey. When asked about marriage and if it was just a business move, they played it cool, giving vague answers but hinting that it might be on the table.
The news of the Redwood and Anderson families teaming up was huge. Both families are loaded and powerful, and while alliances like this aren't rare, the timing was key, especially since both families had ties to Evelyn.
On one hand, the Redwood Group was accusing Evelyn of working with insiders to mess up the company. On the other hand, the Fragrance Association was pushing back against Evelyn, saying she didn't have the right qualifications.
When you put it all together, it looked like a coordinated attack. But the internal drama within the Fragrance Association had people distracted from Evelyn's qualifications, and Ruby and Dylan's relationship announcement brought the spotlight back on her.
People were split. Some thought Ruby and Dylan had been plotting against Evelyn for a while. Others disagreed, saying Evelyn wasn't important enough for the Redwood family and the whole Fragrance Association to team up against her. They figured Evelyn had her own problems.
Those convinced of Evelyn's guilt dug up old audio recordings of her talking about adding certain ingredients to perfumes, suggesting she might add illegal stuff too, proving she was trouble.
Despite all the online and offline debates, Evelyn stayed unfazed. She was busy wrapping up her project. The perfume theme was almost done, syncing perfectly with Lisa's progress. After product testing and certification, everything would fall into place.
While the Redwood family was buzzing with activity, Evelyn's side was calm, just waiting for the court to officially file the case and move forward with the legal process.
The second big event, though less flashy, was a shocker for some folks.
Virgil turned himself in!
After being MIA for a few days, Virgil suddenly showed up and went to the cops to confess. He claimed he was the mastermind behind everything, that he had contacted Evelyn to add illegal substances to the perfume, and that he had tampered with it to make it addictive and irresistible.
He confessed sincerely, taking full responsibility, but there were still a lot of questions.
For example, the transaction records between Virgil and Evelyn were sketchy, with just one transfer and no other details. The meeting locations were vague. Plus, the perfumer they had hired before was nowhere to be found, which seemed unnecessary if it was just a cover-up. Virgil's sudden and odd confession made the police suspicious of his real motives. Ruby had a lot on her plate lately. She was gearing up to take control from Aiden, planning her wedding with Dylan, and possibly heading to Burkwood to meet the Anderson family. When she heard about Virgil's sudden appearance and confession, she was floored.
"How did they find him? Did the cops find him? Where was he? Did he say where he's been all this time? Was he kidnapped?" Ruby asked the person reporting the news, her voice low and urgent.
"No, he walked into the police station himself. We don't know how he suddenly showed up. It wasn't a kidnapping; there was no ransom demand. He's in custody now and has confessed to everything."
"Confessed to everything?" Ruby was stunned. "What exactly did he confess to?"
"Virgil said he was behind it all. He contacted Evelyn, told her to add illegal substances, and took full responsibility. It seems pretty solid."
But Ruby shook her head, feeling even more uneasy.
"No, it's not solid. Something's off."
If Virgil had come forward claiming innocence and refusing to admit guilt, that would be a normal reaction. But she knew he was just a scapegoat. His impulsive nature, disappearing for so long and then suddenly taking all the blame, was too unusual.
When something is out of the ordinary, there's usually a problem. Ruby feared this situation was more complicated and could lead to trouble.
"Impossible," Ruby's subordinate frowned. "He's already confessed. What else is there to investigate? He was in charge of the project, so his confession makes sense. Are you overthinking this?"
"You don't get it!" Ruby snapped. "If it were that simple, I wouldn't have to go through so much trouble. Where's Mr. Scott?"
"Mr. Scott is sick and has taken leave. He hasn't been to the office."
"I see. You can go now. Keep an eye on the police situation and let me know immediately if there's any news."
"Yes."
Ruby was uneasy. She sensed something was wrong, but couldn't pinpoint the issue. Virgil's impulsive nature made it unlikely he would confess so easily.
She picked up her phone and called Jacob. "Dad?"
"Are you happy now?" Jacob's voice was cold and sarcastic.
Ruby was speechless.
"Your brother is going to prison. He confessed to everything. Are you satisfied? Congrats on becoming the future CEO!" Jacob said bitterly and hung up.
Jacob's anger was palpable, and Ruby could tell he hated her deeply.
Ruby had been so busy lately that she hadn't paid much attention to her father's whereabouts. She had intended to ask him, but it was clear he wouldn't say anything to her.
From his tone, it seemed unlikely that Jacob had orchestrated Virgil's actions. His voice was filled with pain and sadness, suggesting he was unaware of the situation.
Ruby called Liam next. It rang for a long time before he answered, sounding congested.
"Why haven't you been to the office? Do you know how much is going on? Do you still want to be promoted?" she snapped.
"I'm sick. I took leave and followed the proper procedure. You can't stop people from getting sick," Liam replied, his voice muffled. She could hear him blowing his nose.
