Chapter 438 Are You Crazy?
Chapter 438 Are You Crazy?
Virgil's confusion was written all over his face, but Liam just smiled casually. "You can trust me or not. It's your call. But right now, I'm giving you the chance to decide."
Virgil was baffled, yet the offer was too tempting to ignore.
"What do you want me to do?" he asked, his throat dry.
"I'll let you go, but you need to turn yourself in to the cops," Liam said calmly, staring off into the distance. "Admit you were behind the illegal activities, that you hired the perfumer, and that you did everything, including contacting Evelyn from the Seraphian Group. Say she handled the illegal substances, and you didn't know how they were used."
"Who from the Seraphian Group?" Virgil asked, feeling a bit lost. The name rang a bell, but he couldn't place it.
"I'll send you her photo, but that's not the point. Even if you don't remember or mess it up, it doesn't matter. The key thing is you tell the police you did everything. Take on as much blame as you can, admit to as many crimes as possible."
Virgil's eyes widened in shock. "You're asking me to throw my life away? You said you'd help me! Are you working for Ruby, trying to set me up?"
If he took all the blame, what future would he have? How could he be saved? It felt like a trap.
"I told you, you can trust me or not," Liam said, turning slowly to face Virgil. The sunlight behind him cast a shadow, making his expression hard to read. "If I weren't absolutely sure, I wouldn't ask you to do this. Admitting guilt doesn't mean you'll be convicted. Once you admit it, overturning the case will be more believable."
Virgil didn't fully grasp Liam's words, but they seemed to make some sense.
"What's in it for you? What do you want?" Virgil asked, more clear-headed now. He knew people didn't offer help without expecting something in return, but he couldn't figure out Liam's motives.
Liam and Ruby seemed to be in cahoots, yet now Liam claimed he wanted to help him. Liam had been part of the plot against him, and he was a deeply calculating person, which made Virgil uneasy.
But right now, it seemed he had no other choice but to trust Liam.
"My demands are simple," Liam said, walking a few steps to the side. Virgil noticed two broken chairs and a cabinet with a briefcase on top. Liam walked over, took out some documents, a stamp pad, and a pen.
"Come here," Liam said, looking at Virgil.
As if under a spell, Virgil obediently walked over and took the documents from Liam's hand. "Sign this."
"What is it?" Virgil glanced at the papers and froze. It was a share transfer agreement for the Redwood Group and an appointment order.
The agreement transferred 55% of the Redwood Group's shares to Liam and appointed him as the president of the Redwood Group.
"Are you nuts?" Virgil exclaimed, looking at Liam like he was insane. "I don't have 55% of the shares! I barely have 5% myself!"
If he had that many shares, he wouldn't be fighting Ruby now. Even if Jacob gave him all his shares, it would only be around 10%, nowhere near 55%.
"You don't have them now, but you will soon," Liam said confidently. "To prevent you from backing out later, it's better to sign now so everyone can be at ease."
"Are you sure?" Virgil asked skeptically.
55% of the shares would make him the dominant force in the Redwood Group, putting the entire company in his hands. At that point, he wouldn't need to fear anyone or care about any position.
He had only wanted to climb up, step by step, to replace Ruby and control the company. He never imagined he could get so many shares directly.
It seemed like a dream, but was it really possible?
Liam's serious demeanor didn't look like he was joking. Virgil hesitated, holding the pen.
If he didn't have the shares now but got them later, the agreement would take effect, and the company would belong to Liam. Would he be okay with that?
Virgil hadn't realized Liam was so ambitious. He thought Liam's goal was to become the general manager, director, or even vice president, but he never imagined Liam wanted the entire Redwood Group.
"Are you reluctant?" Liam asked, noticing Virgil's hesitation. "It's normal to be reluctant. After all, it's a huge amount."
"You can choose not to sign and walk out of here, but then you'll likely spend most of your life in prison. Your crimes aren't severe, but Ruby has hired the best lawyer to ensure you get extra years. You can count on that. At that point, it won't matter if you're reluctant because it won't be yours anyway."
Liam's words were like needles piercing Virgil's heart.
Indeed, he had nothing now. Although he was pained by the thought of losing so many shares and assets, they were still out of reach, just illusions.
Whether he was reluctant or not, they weren't his yet, so what difference did it make?
At least by signing this, he might gain his freedom, walk the streets again, and possibly take down Ruby.
Thinking it over, Virgil weighed the pros and cons and quickly made his decision.
He picked up the pen and signed his name, then pressed his finger into the stamp pad and left his fingerprint. It was all done quickly.
Liam carefully checked the documents, confirmed there were no issues, and then meticulously put them away, smiling. "Mr. Redwood, you can go home now. You've been through a lot these past few days. Go rest, then turn yourself in to the police."
"Will you really help me?" Virgil asked, still somewhat distrustful.
Liam laughed. "Even if you don't trust me, don't you trust the documents you just signed? Even if I didn't want to save you, wouldn't I still want these?"
He patted the briefcase, treating the documents inside like treasures.
Virgil thought it over and agreed. Liam wouldn't go through all this trouble for nothing. Although he didn't know how Liam would manage it, the situation seemed genuine.
