Chapter 427 Making a Will
Chapter 427 Making a Will
The whole situation with Evelyn was a mess. The Redwood Group was really turning up the heat, but the Seraphian Group wasn't about to back down easily. Samuel handled the paperwork and got her out on bail pretty fast.
The ride home was dead silent. Samuel's face was like a thundercloud.
He was pissed.
Evelyn could tell he was beyond angry, the kind of anger that simmers and builds into something worse. If he had just exploded, it might have been better, but his silence was way more unsettling.
She gently took his hand and said, "I'm okay."
Samuel glanced at her but didn't say anything, just turned his hand over to hold hers.
"I'm okay. Look, I'm perfectly fine. They just called me in for questioning. They don't have any solid evidence, just a bunch of vague speculations," Evelyn said softly. "They set up quite the trap, but it wasn't well-executed. They should have arranged for me to have some contact with Virgil earlier. At least then, it might look like I was actually involved with him."
She half-joked, not too worried about the situation. After all, she hadn't done anything wrong. Even if it went to court, they'd need real evidence.
The only downside was that this whole mess was delaying the progress on the themed perfume she had promised Lisa.
"You can still laugh!" Samuel gave her a helpless look, his anger dissipating a bit at her smile.
He was indeed very angry. These people had some nerve, targeting his woman. Did they think he was dead or something?
"Isn't it funny how poorly they set this up?" Sensing Samuel's anger had lessened, Evelyn leaned closer to him. "But Virgil's gone missing. Do you think they had something to do with it?"
Wasn't Virgil Jacob's illegitimate son? He was supposedly very favored. Would they really sacrifice their own son?
Evelyn's strongest memory of Virgil was that one time at the hospital, a chance encounter.
He had been looking for that model but ended up inLaura's room by mistake. That one face-to-face meeting had been caught on camera, and the police had shown her the photo.
So, someone had been secretly taking pictures that day. Who was it, and who sent them? That was still a mystery.
The thought of someone lurking in the shadows, watching her like a rat in the gutter, was chilling.
"Not just him. Even that perfumer has disappeared," Samuel said with a cold laugh.
"No wonder the police didn't say much when I asked about the perfumer. So, the key witnesses are missing, and they want to use me as a scapegoat?"
It felt like this whole setup was aimed directly at her.
"No one can use you as a scapegoat!" Samuel tightened his grip on Evelyn's hand, his eyes flashing with anger. "Anyone who tries will pay dearly!"
Evelyn was speechless.
At the hospital.
Seeing Ruby again, Samantha wasn't surprised. She just sighed. "Ruby, does it have to be this way?"
"Aunt Samantha, why make it difficult?" Ruby smiled.
"Aiden's health is failing. He might not have many days left. Can't you wait even a few days?"
"It's not that I can't wait, but the company can't. There are so many decisions to be made, and without a legitimate title, it's hard to get things done," Ruby said with a smile. "Aunt Samantha, you and Uncle Aiden together hold about fifty-five percent of the shares. Keeping them won't do you any good. Why not transfer them to me? I'll make good use of them!"
"You want control of the company and our shares, too? Ruby, when did you become so greedy?"
"Come on, we're family. Why talk about greed? If Alex were here, it wouldn't be my turn. But since he's gone, what's the point of holding onto those shares? Give them to me, and I'll take good care of you in your old age!"
At this point, Ruby wasn't afraid of anything. No one could stop her climb to the top. She wanted the Redwood Group, the Anderson family and to be someone everyone in Summercrest City and Emerald Bay looked up to.
"You..." Mentioning Alex made Samantha furious. She clutched her chest, struggling to breathe.
Her health had always been fragile, and taking care of Aiden recently had worn her down. Now Ruby was using Alex to provoke her, practically trying to kill her!
"Aunt Samantha, don't get so worked up. It's bad for your health," Ruby said as she walked past Samantha, holding a folder, heading into the room.
She pushed the door open with a smile and said, "Uncle Aiden, I came to see..."
Her words trailed off, and her smile froze. She hadn't expected to see other people in the room.
Pax and Colt, two major shareholders who had started the company with Aiden's father, were there. They were older now and usually didn't get involved in company matters. Ruby hadn't considered them a threat. As long as she got Aiden's shares, the company would be hers, regardless of their support.
But she hadn't expected them to show up at this critical moment.
"Pax, Colt," she greeted them with a smile.
Pax and Colt nodded slightly, their faces expressionless.
"Uncle Aiden, how are you feeling? What did the doctor say?" Ruby asked, acting concerned as she bent down to look at Aiden.
Aiden glanced at her with a cold, indifferent look and turned away without speaking.
Ruby didn't seem embarrassed and continued to smile. "It looks like you're doing better than a few days ago. You were mostly asleep then. It's good to see you more alert today."
No one else spoke, so Ruby kept talking. "By the way, what brings Pax and Colt here today? I heard they've been busy with personal matters. Who invited them?"
"I did," Samantha said from the doorway. "Aiden's health is poor, and we need to make some arrangements. Besides Colt and Pax, I've also arranged for a lawyer to come and notarize a will. Do you have any questions?"
Ruby was taken aback but quickly smiled again. "What questions could I have? But Uncle Aiden is still in good health. Why make a will now? And Alex is already..."
"Ruby Redwood!" Samantha rarely called her by her full name, but her tone was stern. "Aiden is very tired. You should leave now."
