Chapter 124
Chapter 124
A sharp screech of brakes rang out. Ophelia ran forward desperately, not even having a chance to catch her breath.
"Stop right there!" Griffin chased after her from behind. The thought of his target escaping midway made his legs tremble uncontrollably.
His life was in Ophelia's hands now.
Ophelia ran behind a rock to hide, pulled out a pistol from her waist, and aimed at the reckless Griffin.
She aimed at Griffin's leg and pulled the trigger.
With a loud bang and a scream, Griffin fell to the ground.
Ophelia quickly walked over, and after making sure there were no other accomplices of Griffin's around, she pressed down on Griffin's neck. "Talk. Who sent you here?"
Griffin wasn't cooperative at first, but as soon as he saw the gun in Ophelia's hand, he immediately spilled everything. "It was, it was Cressida. She said if I brought you to her, she'd give me a million dollars."
When mentioning the million dollars, Griffin's eyes gleamed with greed.
Ophelia knocked him out with the pistol. "A million dollars? Keep dreaming."
After searching Griffin's body, Ophelia found his phone.
Using his fingerprint to unlock it, she saw the contact records between Cressida and him.
Seeing a place called Golden Ember Hotel, Ophelia frowned and sent this address to Debra.
Debra quickly sent back a location.
After hiding Griffin, Ophelia went down the mountain and drove away.
Following the GPS, she arrived at the Golden Ember Hotel. Just as she was about to go in, she suddenly saw Cressida appear at the hotel entrance.
She quickly stepped back and hid behind a pillar.
"Why hasn't Griffin brought her to me yet? Didn't he say it would be soon?" Cressida complained,
"Miss, please be patient. Maybe there's traffic. Griffin called me earlier and said he'll be here soon."
Cressida was very dissatisfied. "Call Griffin again now. I'll answer it myself."
"Yes."
Ophelia instinctively wanted to turn off the phone, but realized that would make them even more suspicious.
Fortunately, the call wasn't answered.
Ophelia sent a text message instead.
After seeing the text, Cressida finally felt relieved and went upstairs to wait in a hotel room.
Ophelia approached the front desk and asked, "Hello, which room did Ms. Schmidt just go to?"
The receptionist looked warily at Ophelia, who was wearing a hat and mask.
Ophelia explained, "I'm the person Ms. Schmidt is waiting for. Could you please tell me her room number?"
Ophelia showed the contact records with Cressida, and only then did the receptionist believe her.
With the room key, Ophelia headed to the ninth floor.
She avoided all the cameras along the way. When she reached the ninth floor, Cressida's room door was still open.
Just as Ophelia was about to enter, the phone at her waist suddenly rang.
It was Griffin's phone.
Soon, the people inside the room also heard the ringtone.
"What's going on? Has Griffin already arrived?"
Cressida came out to look, but Ophelia had already disguised herself as a hotel staff member.
"Where's the person who was just standing here?" Cressida asked.
Ophelia played dumb. "What person?"
Cressida frowned and arrogantly ordered Ophelia, "Go clean my room."
Ophelia had no choice but to go to the room. But after Ophelia went in, Cressida received a phone call.
From the other end came a deep, hoarse voice.
"I know. Finnegan doesn't have much time left. We have the antidote. If he wants it, he has to give us all his inheritance. Let that Ophelia die!"
Hearing this, Ophelia was shocked inside. Her hand slipped, and a vase shattered.
Looking at the mess on the floor, Cressida frowned. "You can't even handle such a small task. You're useless!"
The deep voice on the phone spoke up. "There's someone else in your room?"
"Just a staff member who can't even do simple tasks properly."
The man seemed dissatisfied with Cressida's carelessness. "Get rid of anyone unnecessary quickly. Don't keep them there."
Cressida held the phone and walked arrogantly to Ophelia's side. "Did you hear that? Leave now."
Hearing this, Ophelia felt relieved. "I'll leave right away. Sorry."
Just as she reached the door, she was suddenly called back.
Ophelia turned around with her head lowered. "Yes?"
Cressida walked behind Ophelia and closed the door. "Who told you to come here? You've heard my secrets, so you definitely can't continue living in this world."
Ophelia's heart skipped a beat. So Cressida had let her in so easily because she never planned to let her leave alive.
She had a dagger hidden in her hand. The moment Cressida picked up the phone to call security, the blade was already at Cressida's throat.
Cressida was shocked.
She stared wide-eyed at Ophelia. "You..."
The phone had already dropped from her hand, showing the call was connected.
Ophelia frowned deeply, realizing there wasn't much time left.
With one hand, she ended the call, while keeping the other at Cressida's throat. "Cut the crap. Get to the corner, or I'll kill you right now."
Cressida's body trembled. Hearing this voice, she finally realized it was Ophelia! "Ophelia, it's you!"
Ophelia pulled off her mask. "That's right. But you're realizing it too late now."
Ophelia pushed Cressida to the corner, tied her arms with curtain strips, trapped her in the narrow space, and threatened, "From now on, if you dare make another sound, I'll cut your mouth with this dagger. Got it?"
Cressida quickly nodded. "I understand."
Ophelia sneered. Being so cooperative, she must be up to something.
She strode to the bed, picked up the phone from the floor, and quickly sent a message to security.
She told security not to come, while setting up various arrangements in the room to ensure that when those people came in, they wouldn't immediately discover that Cressida had been taken.
"You're coming with me."
Cressida looked at Ophelia in terror. "No..."
"You don't have a choice." Ophelia stripped off Cressida's outer clothes, pushed her into a Janitor cart, then put her mask back on and wheeled the cart to the service elevator.
As she was about to exit the elevator, she suddenly saw a group of security guards in black.
At that moment, Cressida actually made a sound.
Seeing this, Ophelia immediately kicked her. After Cressida passed out, she looked at the security guards eyeing her menacingly. "Is something wrong?"
The guards walked over, about to check her Janitor cart.
Just then, the hotel manager nearby shouted, "Why are you so slow? It's already this late, and you're just finishing cleaning?"
Ophelia was slightly startled. "I understand. Sorry, there was a small incident earlier."
Ophelia pushed the cart and quickly passed through the middle of the guards.
Sure enough, no one stopped her this time.
Ophelia walked beside the hotel manager and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Walking with the manager to a nearby corridor, Ophelia looked at the manager and leaned against the wall with a smile.
